SNL Does It Again - Here Comes The Queen

I must admit I didn't watch the VP debate last night. I decided to watch baseball instead. I know, I know, but I knew I wasn't going to be intellectually stimulated either way, so might as well have some fun. Apparently though I was about the only one outside of LA or Chicago who didn't watch the debate because it got more viewers than the Presidential debate. Usually they get about half.

Anyway, the moderator of the debate last night was Gwen Ifill, and SNL has signed up Queen Latifah to play her when they do a VP debate sketch this weekend. Obviously you have Fey as Palin, but what I think would be a great move is to have Anne Hathaway who is the host this week, play Biden. I think she could pull it off.

It just seems as if SNL really can't do anything wrong this year because of the election. They will probably be hurting again by Christmas, but for now they definitely are making at least the first ten minutes of each show very watchable. Not that I would actually watch the show. I mean it is available on the website, and easier, and lets face it. Cinemax has a triple feature on about the same time as SNL if you know what I mean.

We were all hoping Palin would say something brilliantly stupid. Sadly, she did not. Hey, at least that means there's a reason for Katie Couric not to get fired for a bit longer.

"...have Anne Hathaway who is the host this week, play Biden. I think she could pull it off."

LOL!!!

"Cinemax has a triple feature on about the same time as SNL if you know what I mean."

Oh baby, making me all hot and bothered again! Hey, is that what you and FW got up to on Saturday nights? No wonder you were broken hearted!!!

SNL must be thanking god that McCain picked Palin - their show is relevant for the first time in years.

but she didn't say anyhting really outside of Maverick, What i did in Alalska, this great nation and Barack Obama did this...it was drivel to fill her time and not have to come up with intelligent answers. Biden looked and sounded like an informed man, she sounded like Frances McDormand in Fargo.

maybe she didn't say anythtign stupid but she didn't come off that smart. i think most people think she did good becasue she SOUNDED good, but to me she is like watching the evening news....all bark no bite.

like *nucular*? or just the plain old fargo folksy gotcha and i'll get back to ya routine?

Mooshki said...

Ha, I was trying not to start another political argument by dissing her too much. :) I'm still traumatized from the last CDAN battle.

you are traumatized from the last cdan battle?

oh, the irony.

Mooshki said...

Since we're going there, did you see Geraldine Ferraro's commentary? Something along the lines of "If she mentioned 'energy' one more time I was going to lose it."

Sorry guys...Palin is a rock star. Whether or not she wins the election, she managed to connect with a LOT of Americans last night. Give the woman her due.

didn't see it, but i said if she winked one more time i was gonna hurl.

this is how well she did last night among various polls:

http://voices.kansascity.com/node/2299

Random and non-random polls for the vice presidential debate declare Biden the winner over Palin in the vice-presidential debate.

Non-random (unscientific) polls on AOL and MSNBC web sites show Biden winning 48 to 45 and 78.6 to 18.9 respectively.

Randomly selected subjects on three other polls also show Biden winning:

CNN/Opinion Research Biden 51 Palin 36
CBS Biden 46 Palin 21
Fox Biden 61 Palin 39

In the CBS poll, of the uncommitted voters, 18% now say they will vote Obama/Biden, 10% now say McCain/Palin.

landslide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ice angel, I'll meet ya halfway and say she did a hell of a lot better than I expected. :)

Hey, back on topic, I hope the writing is good for this skit, 'cause I think Queen is awesome, and I want it to be really, really good.

I took nothing she said seriously because who during a vice presidential debate winks and give shout outs to 3rd graders....The only reason anyone thought she did good is because she stayed on the stage and didn't run off, in other words our standards for her were low.

@knm2003 - I agree with you.

I liked what Tina Fey said after she won her Emmy.
"I want to be done playing this lady Nov. 5," she said. "So if anybody can help me be done playing this lady Nov. 5, that would be good for me."

this was posted on Lainey this morning - two Canadian bloggers posting during the debate - it's a hilarious read. A sample:
http://blog.macleans.ca/2008/10/02/macleansca-liveblog-american-vp-leadership-debate/

Here's a sample: # 8:54 PM Scott Feschuk - Do you have your perception analyzer like those voters on CNN? i do. mine’s a shiraz.
# 8:55 PM Luiza Ch. Savage - As I suggested on my blog earlier today, let’s have a sip of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin every time we hear the words “elite”, “media elite” or “liberal elite.”
# 8:56 PM Scott Feschuk - It’s been 12 seconds. i’m drunk.

Queen as Gwen is going to be awesome. Enty, internet porn is waaaay better than skinemax.

re: debate. I couldn't finish watching it. "I'm not going to answer the way [everyone] expects." If you want to give a talking-points speech, give a speech, don't go to a debate to do it. I had to turn it off after half an hour.

I love Gwen, hell I love all of the Lehrer hour people (conservative and liberal). Only real news on tv.

Sarah Palin Debate Flow Chart

Harriet Hellfire said...

I will watch SNL for the Fey/ Palin stuff, because I love Tina Fey and think she is brilliant.

But the rest of the show (with the exception of the Weekend Update) sucks now. The skits don't even have punchlines.

I agree dnfrommn: News Hour is the only place to get real news and real commentary, rather than simple talking points.

I have three words regarding the debate last night: "Joe Six-Pack."

GO DODGERS! WOO HOO! I didn't watch the debate either. There was a game on!

Sure -- the same ones who enjoy getting the run-around from Bush and Cheney. They just refuse to give clear, thoughtful, specific answers that Americans need and deserve.

That Palin debate flow chart is hilarious.

Molly said...

caroline, you can get all you need to know by looking at the polls. sarah ranked poorly and a bunch of independents ran the other way. she's a dolt. you can't have a dolt one heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the u.s.

Kay Xander said...

I'm an independent and I liked her. Liked her at the convention, liked her at the debate, still like her. Also enjoy the Tina Fey portrayals.

Why does no one ever talk about how Joe Biden faked his educational qualifications, faked his resume, and stole at least one of his speeches word-for-word? And has very odd points of view about anyone who's not white, including his own running mate?

That's a guy I definitely do not want to see as President.

Molly said...

kay, probably because it was so long ago, and he's done so much for women's rights, and so many other pols have been accused of the same kinds of things, that it's not an issue.

palin is surrounded by controversy for abuse of power. all pols are bad but she's worst. and stupid, imo. she has no clue what she's talking about. she's so out of her league it's disgusting. she barely answered any of the debate questions. she just doesn't know.

plus, i can't afford even one more year of someone who says he's a maverick but votes the same way bush does - let alone four more years.
