Blind Item #3 - Himmmm - Old Hollywood

Back in the day, at Chateau Marmont, there was a famous bill that Warner Brothers paid. Someone recently uncovered it where it had remained for decades. There was a bill from this former A list mostly movie actress who went on to a life of royalty. Her bill was the exact same in regards to dates and amounts as this A+ list mostly movie actor who kind of had two first names and was very tall for an actor of the day. He was married. She was not. The only differences on the bills were she had a notation for doctor's procedure. Code word for abortion. He had several notations for career development which was code for hookers. So, while she was recovering from an abortion he was enjoying some female company.

Interesting guesses. Several actresses/actors could fit this combo I suppose. Apparently Grace Kelly's biggest talent was managing her public facade. Watch "Rear Window" and you can see why. Then some like Ava Gardner didn't give a single damn what anyone thought of her. But consider the flawless beauty of Heddy Lamarr who obsessed over her PR spin (that's HEDDY not HEADly...ha-ha). In fact Hedwig's personal life would make actresses today seem prudish by comparison. Legend has it that more than one royal man (and a female also) would've renounced thrones for her hand in marriage. Even "family man" L.B. Mayer couldn't keep her all to himself (even though the staff at the Marmont claimed he tried desperately to keep her in a gilded cage there).

Someone mentioned Gary Cooper? He was a great a actor, and allegedly a first-class sonofabitch offscreen for decades. Legend has it that he finally cleaned up, made amends, and changed but he left a trail of scorched earth (and women)in his wake. VERY bad stuff but supposedly he atoned. Many actors have fallen prey to their demons, but repentance and good P.R. saved their legacies. Just tough to imagine the hero of "It's A Wonderful Life" on the sly as Jimmy Stewart was alleged to engage in affairs too. Or even John Wayne. A young "Duke" Wayne shacked up in a hotel with a royal-worthy actress would've scandalized the press in those days...if it had occurred.

I am loving the Old Hollywood blinds.....scandal was juicier when it was squashed ruthlessly by the studios. Nowadays, TMZ is lurking and starlets leaking their own sex tapes just takes the mystique out of the Silver Screen legends...not that there are too many “legends” left.

I love these old Hollywood blinds. Heddy was a stone cold genius. A true beauty. An inventor. She held numerous patents. I can see how she utterly captivated royalty and paupers. The grace Kelly guesses seem to obvious. However I found a fascinating quote attributed to Gary Cooper about Kelly. She”looked like a cold dish with a man until you got her pants down, then she’d explode” those were the days....

Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper, who was exceedingly tall and known for his hunky lankiness.
