Kevin Spacey Blames Being Drunk And Gay For Molesting A 14 Year Old

Kevin Spacey issued the worst apology ever Sunday night after actor Anthony Rapp alleged the Oscar-winning star made a sexual advance at him when he was aged 14.

Rapp, who plays Lt. Paul Stamets on the CBS online series "Star Trek: Discovery," was quoted in an interview with Buzzfeed as saying Spacey climbed on top of him in a bedroom at a 1986 party in New York.

Rapp, who turned 46 on Friday, confirmed his comments to Buzzfeed in a statement Sunday night.

Spacey, who would have been 26 or 27 in 1986, said in a statement Sunday night on Twitter that he didn't remember the alleged incident involving Rapp, but he wrote: "If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years."

In his statement, he wrote: "As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior."

In his own statement, Rapp put the alleged incident in the context of recent allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein and numerous other Hollywood figures who have been accused of having made inappropriate sexual advances toward women.

"I came forward with my story, standing on the shoulders of the many courageous women and men who have been speaking out, to shine a light and hopefully make a difference, as they have done for me," he said. "Everything I wanted to say about my experience is in that article, and I have no further comment about it at this time."

Rapp was a child Broadway and Hollywood actor during the 1980s who became a star in the Broadway production of "Rent" in the mid-1990s.

In the Buzzfeed article, Rapp said he was at a party at Spacey's apartment in New York in 1986 when he realized after midnight that only the two of them were left. He said Spacey walked into the bedroom where Rapp was watching TV.

"My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk," Rapp said. "He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold."

Rapp said that Spacey then "lays down on top of me" but that he managed to "squirm" away.

"He was trying to seduce me," Rapp said. "I don't know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually."

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, step inside - step inside...

I’ve said before here that the creep/ick factor was strong with Spacey. I dated a guy a long time ago who was”friends” with him and more I’m fairly certain...I remember asking about his sexuality (knowing the answer) and he was like— ”Kevin’s— sexually active, yeah.”
A 14 year old FFS?

i'm so excited --- it's beginning!

ps at some point can we direct some anger/legal weight at parents who let their 14-year-olds attend these parties?

I agree and not sure what Anthony was thinking... he’s a super reserved, intensely smart guy with solid family... They (He and Spacey) we’re both doing shows on Bway at the time...no excuse , but he was living a different lifestyle at that point already I reckon

It will be interesting to see if we now get an avalanche of reports about Spacey, as we did with Weinstein and Tobak.

RE: parenting in the 80s.

Anthony said he doesn't want people thinking badly of his mother. At that time, he went to work by himself, shows by himself, etc.

It was the 80s and parenting was different.

Also, he didn't realize until he got there that he was the only underage person that was going to be there.

Tricia- being gay is not a lifestyle. It either is or isnt. My favorite part of spacey's " deflect-a- pology was how hes had realtionships with women. Yeah, right. And Spacey coming out as gay? Ummm, was there anywhere in the world that DIDNT know he was gay? So much for the big reveal. He is a fabulous actor, and no one cares if he's gay, but if he has attacked other juveniles that is not good.

It will be interesting to see if any others come forward.

Um, I meant the theatre/showbiz lifestyle at the age of 14(or any age).. ... 6 shows/week and 11pm curtain calls

Boldblonde said...

Many will start coming forward. I'm sure.

I understood what you meant, Tricia. I think anyone who has been around here for a minute knows you wouldn't imply that gayness isn't a lifestyle :)

I agree, just sayin', what a time to be alive for gossip fans!

Why would a teenager be invited to a party without a parent? I'm sure Kevin has other skeletons in his closet

Both Kevin Spacey and Bryan Singer was trending early this morning (around 4:30 a.m. EST) but then by 6 a.m. he was off the trending list. I'm waiting for #BryanSinger to start trending again. I want those assholes to SWEAT in fear of anticipation of the world coming down around them. Please let the domino effect begin. All of us here at CDaN have our popcorn ready and are just anxiously waiting...

thx@Susan.. thought the reference to children being in show biz was pretty clear myself....😉

Back in the 80's while working on the film 'Crimes of Passion; that starred Kathleen Turner and Anthony Perkins, Perkins 'boyfriend' told me that about 80% of actors are gay.

That was news to me.

And, through the years, that seems to be about right.

As I've grown old(er) I could care less if you are gay/lesbian or not.
(My wife's business partner is gay.)

@Sd Auntie - I can't find the link but I did read somewhere that Rapp did mention that it was NOT his mother's fault, that Rapp would usually go to auditions, rehearsals, etc by himself when he was younger and didn't reveal everything to her back then, therefore, he is asking the public to please not bash his mom. (not saying you are doing that, just paraphrasing what i read)

I'm not shocked by this, Spacey sweats creepy. I don't care if someone's gay, sexual orientation is a non issue with predators. I think a book can be written just about his Broadway assaults. Bring em all down!.

Susan M said...

I do have to say, in reference to Enty's headline, that I don't think he's saying his gayness is an excuse to what happened, his gayness is being thrown in there as a distraction.

Sd Auntie said...

Yes, I was questioning why Kevin would invite an underage person. I saw Rapp in Rent and he was fantastic. Independence in the 80's was a big deal and common.

Why come out as gay now after all these years?
The age of consent is 18 (in most states) and the average age worldwide is 16. This applies whether or not you are gay.

shakey said...

Does he blame being drunk and gay on all the other incidents as well? Because if he did that to one kid ...

Amartel said...

I previously respected Spacey for keeping his privacy and refusing to be pigeonholed by the hacktivists but now I have to wonder if it was, at least in part, just some lame cover for his pedo activities.

Anyone else read KS's statement in Frank Underwood's voice? With him staring into a camera while reading, only to smirk to another camera once finished... Totally worded in Frank's manipulative style.

True. Parents (including mine) did things which would make today's parents faint.

Didn't you all just loooooove that expertly crafted and tailored message? How long has it been prepped and ready to go for the day the Kevin Spacey shit hit the fan? Where there's smoke there's fire.

It is loooooong past time to round up the USUAL SUSPECTS across the board and have them face justice and the consequences of the countless lives they have derailedand ruined...and it's only just begun. Many more will be crying and singing. Who will have the highest known/confirmed victim count?

Coompile a list of names, no need to note what names on the list all have in common (no it won't be that they're Jewish and or gay but they will all have a history of something else in common), and just copy/paste/add to it and post it EVERYWHERE. Share stories with Wikileaks. Post on Craigslist, twitter, Facebook, yahoo, datalounge, radar online, here there everywhere. Let the perps sweat and squirm as theycontinue to turn on and eat their own. Already some are squealing both to various authorities at numerous jurisdictions and levels as well as journalists reputable and otherwise. This time it's NOT going to just blow over

Sorry/not sorry but it's well past time to reveal it ALL. The multiple organized (underage and otherwise) sex trafficking rings, underage boy and girl exploitation, sexual assault, narcotics.

No matter what the parents did or did not do, Kevin Spacey should have known better. This is going to be quite the week for things to come tumbling down. I just hope that people are not forgiven because they are talented, or they were drunk, or famous, or whatever.

mary lamb said...

How is a lame, half-assed apology sufficient? Fuck him and everyone like him. Just wait, it won't make an iota of difference. No one in Hollywood gives a flying fuck.

amanda_jf said...

I'd read that at this point Rapp had worked with Spacey for 5 years. So there could be no denying that Spacey knew he was underage and I'm assuming that having known him for as long, there would be a level of trust there, that on reflection may possibly have been grooming. I wouldn't have had many reservations trusting my 14 year old with someone that we'd both known for so long, maybe not so much as bad judgment, as it is manipulation on Spacey's part.

Does anybody think this isn't really sexual assault? I mean, no clothes were removed, no fluids were exchanged. Yes, it was probably overly aggressive behavior, imparted on a minor (which is wrong), but where is the abuse? Clearly, Mr. Rapp was a very mature acting 14 year old, probably previously exposed to the atrocities of the business. Just a thought.

Spacey... sick jerk. Gosh I'm proud of how courageous this was to disclose! Be free of this burden! Sidebar: Am I the only one thinking who lets their 14 year stay at a party alone?

just sayin' said...

my big takeaway from this story is that kevin spacey is more concerned about people thinking of him as gay than he is about the life-damaging harm he's done to children. coaching his explanation with "i've had relationships with women and men"...who gives a f##k!!! that's not the point. and we don't care who you f##k now either. you are a serial predator -- that's all that matters, a$$hole. and netflix, you could have continued the show without him. just sayin'.

just sayin' said...

and it's sweet of rapp to say it's not his mom's fault. i'm sure she didn't have a clue. but "parenting was different in the 80's"...bullcr@p. there are lots of parents who ignore their instincts that something's hinky about hollywood. ambition is at the root of this and it's the parents responsibility to protect, not promote their children.

My parents let me go out with a 23 year old when I was 15. Now I have a 15 year old and I think, "WTF!"

Glue said...

@Matt McDonald I hear ya. Abuse may not be the correct term here in the literal sense, but Kevin Spacey allegedly DID prey on a young man. When an adult sexually preys on someone younger (especially a 14 yr old) and weaker (physically, mentally or emotionally), it could appear to be "abusive" since it's an act that could scar the child in many ways.

disclaimer: jmo
/grin/

Glue said...

I correct myself...Spacey didn't prey on a young man. He preyed on a child.
14-yrs old is still a child when you really think about it. I mean..think back to when you were 14 - lol - so yea...still a child. Teenager/child = underage.

It took him this long to get his justice. The guy's in his 40's now and he was molested when he was 14.

I imagine the LGBTQ must be THRILLED he's correlating sexual abuse with homosexuality. As if there aren't enough negative stereotypes. This is not a "gay" thing, this is purely a pedophile thing.

You'd think he'd know better. I've been telling my gay friends to STAY AWAY from an art community venue that's associated with a rapist (I've been molested there myself) for the sake of the local gay community. Because the last thing the gay community needs is for people to think gay people are "degenerates" like rapists and acting teachers/directors who sexually harass/abuse students/actresses.

matt mcdonald: if you touch another person in a sexual way, it is a sexual assault and causes emotional pain when it's unwanted. just as if you lay hands on another person with malice it's assault. you don't touch other people without their permission.
