Ratner/Patty Jenkins?
or Kathryn Bigelow?
The HFPA is easy to bribe, they do the Golden Globes. Gerwig was snubbed for Best Director this AM. I don't think Jenkins was ever a real possibility.
The Wonder Woman director?
I lost complete faith in award shows. It's all bought and paid for when it comes to awards: Oscars, Grammy, Emmy...it's now all "meh, so what."
Patty Jenkins makes a lot more sense, giving Gal Gadot's statements about Ratner.
Gerwig's omission is more noteworthy, but remember, Gerwig worked with Woody Allen - and hasn't said anything directed at any one individual when asked about the harassment stories.
When Gadot dropped out of presenting that award to Ratner, Jenkins filled in for her. Jenkins makes no sense here.
I agree with @LooLoo about the lack of credibility awards shows have these days.
Both the Oscars and the Grammys seem entirely divorced from public taste. The Oscars gives "Best Picture" to art movies year after year instead of the films that really move the culture.
And the Grammys always seem to be a year or two behind the charts.
While I really enjoyed Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins was not an award season contender. A lot of buzz about Lady Bird so Greta Gerwig definitely makes more sense.
The Golden Globes were always bought and sold for,the main purpose is to get Oscar buzz and see who shows up drunk at the show.
It's definitely Gerwig. Lady Bird is at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet Gerwig is absent from both the best directing and writing categories.
Lady Bird is SO good. Run out and see if it's by chance playing in a theater near you.
The Golden Globes have always lacked credibility. They nominate all the biggest stars just so they will attend their awards ceremony. Get Out as a comedy film? This is so ridiculous but not surprising. I think Greta Gerwig and Patty Jenkins both deserved nominations.
If Jenkins he didn't have to try very hard. There was no way the director of Wonder Woman was going to be nominated for anything.
Banished director my mind immediately goes to Roman Polanski. Ratner and Singer also work presently, though.
Ok, if Gerwig, who is the director?
@LooLooeasy I agree with everything you said. patty filled in for gal but of course it was just duty. I cannot imagine that Patty actually supports rather, but remember that rather is partying buddies with Kevin Tsujihara and Patty still has a sequel in production. But then who's the director who hates so much Greta and why? On a related not I just can imagine her partner and well known lame asshole Noah Baumbach (remember how he treated so bad JJL) being terribly jealous and salty ver her success, so I doubt they're still together.
Pia Zadora has a Golden Globe...all credibility lost right there.
I vividly remember the night Pia Zadora won the award and the expression on the faces of the filmdon audience. Sheer shock and awe. I laughed like a loon the rest of the night. There was a documentary made a few years back on The Golden Globes, the members, and how incredibly cheezy everything about it was. I don't watch award shows anymore. Better things to do like sandblasting my face.
+1 Boo. Btw I hear that's a beauty treatment now. When those near sulphuric acid grade skin-stripping facials just aren't enough!
