Sometimes The Justice System Makes No Sense
Jani Lane, formerly of Warrant and Celebrity Fit Club pleaded no contest to his DUI charge from back in June. As part of the deal he made with prosecutors to get his hit and run charge dismissed, he is going to have to spend two days in jail, 36 months probation, 3 months of alcohol classes and spend 30 days picking up trash on the side of the road. That all seems like a fair penalty for a DUI. I am ok with that. This is the part that makes absolutely no sense to me. Jani was also ordered to pay $395 in court costs and fines. Great. No problem. However if he chooses not to pay the $395 he can spend an additional 13 days in jail. So, if Jani doesn't have $395 to pay to the County of Los Angeles, they are willing to spend $100 a day for 13 days to house him and feed him and spend $1300 and willing to give up the $395 they were charging him. Imagine as this scenario is multiplied 100 times every day and you can see there is something terribly wrong with the way the courts have decided to do business. I don't understand why you can't set up payment arrangements or something. I don't care if the person only pays $10 a month for the three years they are on probation, it is better than the current procedure. No wonder we don't have any money in this state.

I don't usually make these kinds of comments, but you can look at that dude's arms and tell he hasn't exercised since gym class in junior high.

Amen! I've been saying the same thing for a long time. Doesn't make much sense to throw someone in jail for however many days because they can't pay a small fine. It ends up costing us taxpayers even more money! This state (California) SUCKS!
I don't know about this logic Enty. I mean you have to pay to stay in jail...it isn't free. They charge you for your room and board so he is paying no matter what.
I do however agree that our system is totally messed up.
Totally off topic, but I was just over on dlisted and Michael K posted an article about Jude Law having a baby with Rachel McAdams sister. That's the answer to the blind Enty put out recently. I didn't expect it to be Jude!
Lisa I agree that obviously the blind was about Jude but if the mother is Rachels sister I wonder why his publicist would go to the trouble of saying it isn't?

Hate to say this, because just yesterday I was hating on people judging others by how they look, but Damn! When I first saw the picture I thought, "Who is that UGLY woman?"
Jude Law got a model pregnant, not an actress's sister, so that Bi is not about him.
