Debbie Matenopoulos Trashes Star Jones

Do you remember Debbie Matenopoulos? Well, she was one of the original hosts on The View. Yep, right there with Star Jones. Well, in an interview with Pop Eater, Debbie has some unkind words for Star. "I want on vacation with Star and when we returned she mentioned everything on the show. I was so young and had no idea how TV worked, but even I knew it wasn't right, getting all this free stuff and in return plugging it on air."

I think Debbie is just sad she did not think of it first. I don't see how Star getting free stuff for a plug is any different than having products thrown in our faces everytime we are watching a television show or movie. Companies are paying for those product placements. I guess the producers of The View or ABC could have had an issue with it since that could have been money paid for commercials, but it could have also been in Star's contract that she was allowed to do that.

I do find it funny that the photo Pop Eater used for its article shows Debbie kissing a bottle of booze, which she probably got for free in exchange for the photo.

How did she think getting the free stuff worked then?? Bothers me when people don't understand how basic business works.

Star Jones had her wedding to Gay Al sponsored by every sponsor she could find and she paid for nothing. She is known to be extra crass and obnoxious about it. That said, it's standard procedure, some stars are just more discreet.

Yeah, and if Debbie had behaved we wouldn't have Elizabeth Hasselshit to deal with....I hate you Debbie

^She was replaced by Lisa Ling. Hasslebeck replaced Ling.

I actually think it's tackier to take the stuff and then NOT provide the plug. A deal's a deal.

I'm also finding it hard to believe that DM didn't know how things like that worked.

I remember that girl. What does she do these days? Infomercials? Anything?

I'm sure Debbie traded out 'other things' that she couldn't plug. Star could just mention hers on TV.

@Kelly she has a gig on E now doing some sort of news show. I honestly don't know if it is on the air anymore.

And apparently she married some dude and the funny thing was each other thought the other had money.

When they got divorced they were fighting over who pays what. Turns out they were both broke.

They do even MORE product placement now because of DVR and On Demand, people aren't watching as many commercials.

I mean, remember the premiere episode of Parenthood? (brought to you by Nissan) I'm pretty sure every other shot was the Nissan symbol. lol

i'm not going to hate on her b/c it's not like she's been out all these yrs fame-whoring and trying to remain relevant (side-eye to pairs and her ilk)...giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she was young and stupid. it was her 1st gig, she m=went big league w/o ever having worked her way up enough to learn the ropes along the way. and frankly, she's probably absolutely right about star.

Ever time I see this broad, I remember those hilarious SNL skits making fun of her! Barbara Walters could not stand this nitwit and it was pretty obvious too. She really has rocks were her brains should be and always has.

Don't hate on Debbie. I think she is kind of goofy and fun. I totally agree that she was beyond unprepared for her first job on the View, and instead of graciously trying to help her Barbara was a bitch and a half to her. She was actually pretty good on her E show (which I do believe is no longer in production), not that it takes extreme talent, but still. The SNL skits were funny for sure but I really don't think she's nearly as stupid as people made her out to be-- she's was just very young and a little flaky/didn't and clearly still doesn't have great media coaching and prep, thats not nearly as a bad as being a homophobic, brainwashed, mommy-facist who should know better (last I heard they teach more than the ABCs at Boston College-- at least for those who don't major in dating the quarterback) moron like Elisabeth Hasselbeck. And I don't think Barbara loves EH too much either but she does love the ratings she pulls in from the scary, scary # of millions of others out there just like her.
