Is Rob Lowe A Lead Actor?
Even if you do not watch Parks & Recreation, please feel free to join in on this one, because this is certainly not the first time this has happened on television. Rob Lowe has submitted himself for Emmy consideration as a lead actor for his work on Parks & Recreation. Although my family and I have disagreements as to how useful he is to the show on a permanent basis, I don't think anyone would disagree that he is a supporting actor. For much of last season he would only get one scene, maybe two, while the other actors on the show were shown much more frequently. I would have no problems with Rob submitting himself for Supporting Actor because he did a great job for the time he has been there and did what a supporting actor should do in television, steal some of the scenes where they are.
He is not a lead though and submitting himself for a lead just shows that he has a big head. He is not the star of that show. It was doing just fine before him and if he left tomorrow it would do just fine without him. For him to come in and say he is the lead, seems to me like he is kind of hijacking the show for his own purposes. Get rid of him now before his ego takes over the show.

Maybe it's just good PR for him, to show he could be a lead? I think he wants something a little more permanent, maybe his own show.
Sooner or later they all do get rid of him. Just a little patience.
Rob hasn't been a lead in a while, and even if I don't watch Recreation, and have certainly not been incouraged to watch since Rob joined, Rob cannot compete against the true leads in that same category, comedy.
No. Absolutely not. He is definitely not a lead actor in Parks and Recreations. And I agree that he looks like an ass for saying so.

Didn't he get kicked off another show after a power struggle? And then he had that atrocious Lyon's Den show that lasted all of 10 minutes.
It's an ensemble cast. No one should submit themselves as Lead Actor.
IF anyone submits as a lead actor on Parks, it should be Nick Offerman (and Ron Effing Swanson is THE MAN). Rob Lowe is hilarious on Parks and Rec, but he's supporting all the way.
I think he actually hurts his chances submitting as Lead because Baldwin is always a contender, Steve Carell has a good shot for the sympathy Emmy vote this being his final season, and Jim Parsons is now a strong contender after his win last year. Lowe ain't gonna beat any of those three.
While I agree he shouldn't have submitted himself as lead...I'm sure he's thinking he's been in the business for 30 + years and he's due.
No show kicked him off. He left West Wing because they wouldn't pay him what he deserved. I thought the Lyon's Den was great.
He chose to leave Brothers & Sisters on his own and is now part of the ensemble at parks/rec.
Im a bit younger then Rob...I recently read his book, and it rocked. It was like a trip through memory lane. He's a great writer and I highly recommend it.
What a douchebag. He's a supporting actor. Or, maybe special guest star. Hee. RL does provide major laughs on the show, the only lead on the show is Poehler.
I have to say Parks and Rec is awesome, but I love the small town government/politics things. It's good stuff. And the Office was just tragically awful this year. Sob!
I thought he left West Wing because he felt the show didn't focus on his character enough? That was an ensemble show, if he'd stuck around he probably would have won an emmy, virtually ever other actor won an award in that show.
I've never seen a P&R, so can't comment on that.
Was it Rob, or was it the producers on Parks and Rec? Many of the actual emmy submissions are done by the show itself, and this might have been a way to clear Rob out of the pack, and open up two possible nominations.
Much as I hate to admit it, many of the Academy actually vote by name recognition and not by knowing the work. There was big brouhaha about iirc Ellen Burstyn nominated for a 30 second appearance in a mini series a few years ago. So you look at the field, figure Sheen is a long shot, and with Shaloub out there are couple of open slots for new nominees, put your most name recognized actor in the lead category and hope that viewers vote up one of the other supporting actors. Lowe may have to have agreed with it, but that might be the strategy as a way to get more publicity for the show.
In an ensemble show, they are all supporting actors.

There are entire episodes where he isn't featured at all. He wasn't even eligible for lead actor when he was on West Wing. Which he left to star in his own show that I think only lasted 10 episodes. I hate actors or actresses that go "I'm just a humble, normal person." on talk shows but then they pull crap like this.
He'll be asking for a steep pay raise pretty soon. He'll probably want more then Amy.
He had more screen time on "Californication" (where he was GLORIOUS) but even there, he's a supporting actor. Now, I like Rob Lowe, but there's a line, you know?

Whatever, it's his mistake. He can submit his name but like someone else said, there are so many other powerful contenders - Steve Carrell, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Morrison, Jim Parsons and I'm sure there are others from shows I don't watch.
He can submit it all he wants, doesn't mean it'll make the list. I don't care if he's an ass, I don't have to work with him.
Parks and Rec has been GREAT this year.
With so many ensemble cast members from different shows being considered in that category, it would give his castmates a better shot at being nominated.
I'm sure he has his on selfish reasons, but doing this gives the others a shot for at minimum at nomination.

Poor Rob, he always wants to be the STAR but he is only one among many in the ensemble. That's why he doesn't stay on shows, they won't make him the STAR.
He should quit joining ensembles since his ego can't take it.
Nick Offerman should win an Emmy. He is amazing. I LOVE Ron Swanson. While I think that Rob Lowe is absolutely gorgeous, his role on Parks and Recreation is far and away the tiniest on the show. I can't even remember his character's name. If he was never on the show again, I probably wouldn't notice. The only good thing about his character is how much he gets on Ron's nerves.

Hey! Does everyone remember in 1988 when Rob Lowe filmed himself having sex with two women...one of which was not an adult? That was pretty funny. Rob has always been full of himself.
I remember him trying to get into Snow White's pants during the Oscars one year. I bet everytime he takes a trip to Disney World She and The Little Mermaid make a run for it.
I really like Parks and Rec. It has replaced The Office for me which this season has started going down (except the snowball fight episode). Rob has been a great addition, so has Adam Scott, but not lead, no. He should come out and say it was an error, his agent made a mistake, something.
Rob Lowe left West Wing because they wouldn't let him be the "star" of the show. He left Brothers and Sisters for similar reasons... not even screen time, not enough main stories blah blah blah. Something tells me he will end up leaving P&R for similar reasons as well. He is full of himself. But I just can't see him carrying a show on his own, so I see this pattern continuing for a long time.
Yeah, it definitely seems weird to submit as lead vs. supporting.
I just read that Rob is saying (on Twitter) that the reason he did that is b/c of what happened to Modern Family & Ed O'Neil last year (they all entered as supporting, Ed got snubbed).
So maybe his intentions weren't bad? I've always liked him, as an actor.
This show is SO good. Glad it is finally getting the love it deserves.
I'm with all of you about Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman). He is the bomb. That episode with his ex-wife - that was priceless.
