The more I think of it, I think the clue here is "open book". So put my vote in for Carrie Fisher, who wrote a rather infamous book about her Hollywood exploits.

Yes, I think Carrie Fisher (I read her book, interesting). She is iconic for her bathing suit scene with Jabba. Every sci-fi nerd lived for that scene.

Fonda's ex-husband has even claimed he walked in on her having sex with Jay Sebring in the bathroom at Cielo Drive like 3 days before he was murdered.
For those who don't know: Jay Sebring was a hair stylist to the stars who died with Sharon Tate in the Manson murders and those took place (1 night of them at least) on Cielo Dr.
Carrie's stand-up tour has her basically laying EVERYTHING out about her life. I really think this is her.
It's one blind, saw it on another website. Based on the clues, I would say Carrie Fisher, who is a script doctor and has written books, movies, and plays about her life. She is very blunt when she speaks out, and yes, she is a red head.
However, based on the source, I am meh about this (but the timing with her on going diet commercials would tie in well).
Read somewhere else that it is Gillian Anderson of X-File fame.

I go with the Carrie guess--she was engaged to Dan Akroyd, briefly married Paul Simon, and the father of her daughter came out during their relationship. I'd say that's some failed relationships.
On the other hand, Jane Fonda has three divorces to prominent men--Roger Vadim, Ted Turner and Tom Hayden.
There is no way in hell this isn't Carrie Fisher.

Think about this for a second. Sci-Fi sex symbol is so very open in it's meaning. Have you ever been to a comic convention? That could potentially include every actress who ever carried a pulse. Including Margaret Hamilton.
