Random Photos Part Two

Oscar nominee luncheon time.

Michelle Williams wore a Victoria Beckham dress that looks like a Rorschach test. I see two poodles in a boxing ring.
Viola Davis looking lovely.
Rooney Mara back to wearing the depressing colors.
Meryl Streep has been to a few of these things.
Ditto for Glenn Close.
George Clooney has a wager with
Brad Pitt about whether
Jonah Hill's mom helped him pick out this suit. It is his big boy suit.
Jean Dujardin does the Running Man.
Al the best actor nominees.

Lordy Michelle and Rooney look terrible in those outfits.
Viola looks so lovely there, love the pink, but not really the cut of her dress.

I know very little about Michelle Williams and am not a great admirer of hers, but I have to say she dresses like a lady, no ass hanging out or flopping boobs exposed. My grandma always told me to be a lady in the living room and a whore in the bedroom, so I appreciate modesty in public clothing.

Michelle looks like Rainy Day Carebear in that frock.
uhhhhhh

That last pic with Pitt, man, does he have the biggest pompous-thinks his shit dont stink-grin on his face.
God, he's turned into SUCH an asshat since joining the Jolie.
Surprised there's not some tiny hipster paisley scarf draped around his neck right now to complete the douche-tastic vibe.

And once again, Clooney's appeal whizzes past me.

I like Michelle's dress but I think a belt would give a better shape, but what do I know!

That boxy dress does nothing for Michelle. I usually adore her clothing choices (or her stylists?) but not this time.

Glen Close wants to revive the Golden Girls.

Mery Streep looks divine.

Gary Oldman! Gary Oldman! Gary Oldman!

(I'm cheering for him to win)

Ugh, Michelle Williams' dress is so unflattering.

Love Gary Oldman. He wipes the floor with Pitt and Clooney.

Michelle Williams looks like a self-conscious 6 year old who doesn't know how to pose there.

jax said...

I can't be the only one thinking Pitt looks the worst out of that lineup??

Streep always seems a little buzzed. I love her.

Oh God Michelle, what were you thinking???? There's one thing to dress conservatively or like a lady and then there's just throwing a smock over your head and calling it a day.

I'm getting really tired of George and Brad's smug, in-jokes. Get over yourselves.

That french actor is hot as hell.

timebob said...

maybe it is the angle or the lines in the suit. But Jonah looks like he is packing the pounds back on.

.debbie. said...

@timebob - I thought so too. In a good way, though. He looked too skinny for a while there, and now he looks healthy and lovely.

Jean looks like Gene Kelly.

Ohhh Demian not digging the suit/color of belt and shoes. But other that that, boy is FINE. Congrats Esteban from Weeds for making the big leagues!

The only thing that would make the best actors photo better is if Clooney and Pitt were making bunny ears behind each other's heads.

Jasmine, you and I are in fucking SYNC today, because I was literally going to say this SAME exact thing!

I am sick to death of Michelle Williams. I think she seems like a nice person and she's a good actress and everything, but she is BORING. I want Glenn to get the Oscar this year. She's ridiculously overdue for one.

Michelle's GQ cover makes me cringe, too. Some actresses -- no matter how lovely -- just *cannot* pull off ~sexy~, and she's one of them. What's next? Is Reese going to be slathered with baby oil on the cover of Esquire?

Henriette said...

Gary Oldman better win that Oscar! I finally saw George Clooney's performance in The Descendents, and it was crap! It was bad Lifetime/Hallmark channel tripe! Note to George: Shirley Maclain did it better in Terms of Endearment. You don't hold a candle to Shirley. Please sit down now and let Gary Oldman win his Oscar.

There's something about Michelle Williams that bothers me ... there's something little girlish about her, not womanly. And, I don't mean the way she dresses - she dresses just fine, though this dress isn't her best look by a long shot. It's just this treacly, over-projection of innocence or something ... Dunno - anyone else know what I mean?!

timebob said...

somebody throw Jean Dujardin from a roof becuase it is Gary Oldmans year!

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

@PS -- Yes. "Treacly" is a perfect word to describe her. I know EXACTLY what you mean.

I like actresses who are WOMEN. Salma, Halle, Julianne, Meryl, etc. And womanliness has nothing to do with motherhood or posing for lad mags -- it's a high level of projected boldness, intellectualism, and intensity.

timebob said...

PS I get what you are saying. Ever since Heath died I feel like she has been trying to reinvent herself as a young Mia Farrow with the pixie hair and breathy acting. Even her real life is just acting a part.

I hate Michelles dress, I don't think that cut would be flattering on anyone.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Brad cut his hair for the big night and made an effort to look presentable like he used to?
And I agree about George Clooney, I can't even understand why he got nominated even.

Y'all know that I love me some Clooney, but this year I am ALL about Jean Dujardin! He is an absolute fox, and I loved, loved, loved "The Artist". If the medicore "The Help" steals the award, I may never watch the Oscars again. Frankly, the only movie I felt was more overhyped this year than "The Help" was "Bridesmaids". Both were good, but not great, movies. "The Descendents" wasn't nearly as good as "The Artist", but it was a little better than "The Help".

I've never been much of a Glenn Close fan (respect, but not a cheerleader)--but I just saw her film "Albert Nobbs", and I recommend y'all find this gem before it disappears! Glenn is amazing, and this is her SIXTH nomination without a win. I desperately hope her beautiful, subtle performance this year is not overshadowed by the showier gals nominated.

Plus, she's gotten crap about being manly so many years, and it's so cool she used it to tell this story. She broke my heart today as 'Albert.' And reminded me how lucky I am to be a woman in this century.

Black Cat--the hair is for the movie Brad just finished--"World War Z", and he has to keep it until he is sure they are finished with re-shoots.

luvgossip said...

You hate on Rooney Mara for black but not Meryl. It's a daytime lunch! Wear some color! I thought Glenn Close looked good.

mooshki said...

Now that we have Carey Mulligan, we don't need Michelle Williams any more. Can she just please go away?

That stuff Brad was spewing about Angie still being a "bad girl" made me want to puke. I'm so over them and their manufactured image.

Shoeaddict said...

Viola Davis looks gorgeous! I love that color on her.

Thank you, Ida and timebob!! I think it started before / during the Heath years - all the photos, what did Michael K. always say: she's got that look of luuuurrve, as she was always giving the side profile, staring up at him all doey eyed. Not a picture of her not looking like that. And, even the way she talks - the comment she made about her daughter when Heath died was like she were reading a movie script, "she likes to play outside, singing at birds" or something ... her acceptance speech recently: I need a kiss and cuddle before work - what happened to being private?! All moms love their kids' kisses and cuddles, but I wouldn't say that to a room full of professional adults - save that talk for girlfriends at the playground, who should sock you in the arm for getting all weepy Norman Rockwell, so you can have a good laugh. And then there's the latest ... getting teary eyed, when asked about Heath ... interviewer says they can stop, and she says, in her whisper syrup voice... no, it's my favorite place to visit. Grrr - STOP. She's so stuck in this little girl fantasy of romantic tragedy widow. Does she think we don't remember that she and Heath were broken up for MONTHS and MONTHS when he died?! They were never married. He had another girlfriend at the time he passed; he and Michelle were dunzo. There's something very odd about her playing this up so much. And, I agree - I'll take a proud Sophia Lauren, Helen Mirren, Sofia Vergara, Meryl Streep, Angelica Houston any day of the week over this adult playing child playing adult.

Why does everyone rag on Michelle??

At least she doesn't arch her back, push her boobs out with her hand on her hip and do the sexy smirk like every other actress...

She's raising a fatherless child and seems to be sending a better message to her daughter by displaying some class.

Anonymous said...

I'm not going to like her just because she doesn't pose like that. And not every actress does that.

She just seems like a weak, meek little flower. And her wounded puppy routine isn't going to help her daughter one iota.

EleanorRigby said...

Holy mooseknuckle, Batman! Jonah needs looser pants asap!

Lori said...

i think Michelle's dress is sweet, but i definitely see why people are tired of her big eyed act. Wonder why people dont give the Zooey more ess, though...she can lay it on pretty thick too, though not with the breathy voice.

MadLyb said...

Nice set of photos. Bunch of hot sexiness in that last one.

Meryl Streep is still so beautiful.

Glen Close looks lovely.

I like Rooney Mara's look. Just finished the Swedish "Millenium" Trilogy, but I want to see the American version, now.

Viola looks stunning.

Not such a flattering dress for Michelle. I think with her pixie face, she would look good in a V-Neck, off-the-shoulder number.

PS - I wonder if this is the reason Michelle has poor taste in clothes, she just has no real identity it seems.

I forgot to mention I wish Carmen Electra would cut her hair or something, she's got a pretty face and ugly hair.

Jason B E - maybe. but then again maybe she's just trying to get some attention.

Michelle Williams is so precious and twee it makes me want to throw up. I don't care if she's a good actress, I am really sick of her.

shakey said...

Jax - I thought the same thing.

I've often heard of the word "twee", but never quite understood what it meant.

I see a happy sheep and a sad sheep dancing together on Michelle Williams's doll pose.

B626 said...

I saw the Artist and I thought it was great but ya gotta be in the mood for it AND I think he is the best looking and put together stallion in that best actor lineup. Wonder how Brad and George treat the 'new guy'??

firebugDVM said...

@Jason-- keep reading her newer tweets.. They seem to be hinting at it (strongly!)

mooshki said...

Lori, believe me, The Zooey is getting shit all over the internet.

I'm pretty sure that Megan Fox twitter account is fake. After all, it has "*parody*" in its description. But that is an astounding collection of platitudes it's spewing.

Loved The Artist, rooting for Jean all the way.
