Drew Barrymore's Half-Sister Commits Suicide

Earlier this year Julia Roberts' half-sister committed suicide and now the half-sister of Drew Barrymore has done the same. Police in a San Diego suburb said they found Jessica Barrymore's body slumped in her car yesterday blocking the driveway of another woman who called police. Barrymore had a SoBe energy drink and pills scattered all over her and the car. Another neighbor said he noticed the car blocking the driveway beginning about midnight. Jessica was 47 and had been very despondent over the past few days.

    That family just won't catch a break. What is it with a Barrymore gene?

    Speaking of Barrymores, I can recommend a memoir from another troubled Barrymore, Drew's Aunt Diana. She was once a promising actress who got into booze and committed suicide shortly after the book came out, so it's not a happy tale either.

    The troubled sister is older, different dynamic as the Roberts sisters. Also, I doubt Drew would do the shit Julia did to her sister.

    Drew and Jessica had the same father, and Drew was raised by her mother, so who knows how much time they spent together growing up. Jessica's FB is open and I looked at it this morning. She posted several things the last few days, including a picture and comment about being in the desert visiting her cousin the day before she died. RIP Jessica and condolences to her family and friends.

    I didn't hear the San Diego news call it a suicide, but they did mention the pills in the car. One witness said he thought she was sleeping so he didn't want to wake her.

    Calif- I read the same thing on San Diego NBC & the UT. There was no mention of suicide, and only the later articles mentioned the pills. It was the national news that claimed suicide.

    Drew specifically said the reason she had a second child was so her daughter wouldn't have to grow up as an only child like she (Drew) did. I am really surprised to find out she had any half-siblings. My guess it that Drew did not have a relationship with them.

    I think her problem was that she was a Barrymore who was 47 and working at a PetCo.

    Her facebook page shows her with a dog and a couple of cats. In cases like this I always think of the animals... it's unbelievable how even close relatives who loved the departed, will just drop their beloved pets at the nearest kill shelter :-(

    I didn't realize Drew had any half-siblings, but it doesn't sound like they had any kind of relationship. She released a nice statement though.

    I never even knew that Drew had a sister, "half" or otherwise. She's always-particularly in recent post-babies interviews has referred to herself as an "only child" which is why she was desperate to give Olive at least one sibling.

    Very sad :(

    My brother and sister are years older than me, one bipolar and one developmentally disabled. I'm essentially an only child. I know exactly what Drew means.
