Blind Item #1

Despite everything that is going in Hollywood, there are multiple A list actresses who are all vying for the lead in this sequel. A sequel directed by one of the worst of the worst in Hollywood when it comes to treating women. He had been in Hollywood jail, but apparently a good project on offer makes that all go away. He is a former A+ list mostly movie actor turned actor/director.

Mel Gibson - Passion of the Christ sequel

With all due respect to all the Christians/Catholics out there, how can there be a sequel to "The Passion Of The Christ"?!!? Is there a third testament I failed to read???!!

It's hell being Mel, The Passion of the Christ II: The Quickening

The sequel to Passion of the Christ will be about the three days between the resurrection and Jesus ascending into heaven. I don't know that there would be a substantial or great part for a woman though.

😂
As a cradle catholic that cracked me up!
Melson Gibson has decided there is a third testament created by him in his weird little church in his backyard - it absolves him of all his sins and makes sugar tits a holy name for a woman

Mel Gibson and the Mary Magdalene role? It would be the height of hypocrisy if there are casting couch calls to play Mary Magdalene. But I don't see who else this could be, or what role. Gross.

Also, I agree with no idea how Gibson would fill out even a 90-minute movie about the days after the Resurrection. Wasn't one selling point of PotC that he hewed closely to the Biblical accounts? If he sticks strictly to the Gospel versions, he'll get a half-hour Easter special, tops. Maybe there will be flashbacks to Jesus's ministry before the Crucifixion?

Passion of the Christ, Beyond Thunderdome: Two Christs enter, one Christ rises.

I don't know what he has in mind, but after the Passion and Resurrection, there's the visits of Jesus to the Apostles, then the Ascension, then Pentecost, then Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus, and all of Acts and the spread of the Church across the area. Lots of material to choose from.

I don't think Mel's a very good guy, but compared to the rest of Hollywood, he's looking better every day. That really cheeses people off, doesn't it?

Brayson87 said...

Gibson/Passion
I'd rather see Mel play an older Max than another Tom Hardy one. The story didn't end at Thunderdome.

@MontanaMarriot Passion of the Christ covered the night of Jesus betrayal up to His resurrection (about 3 days)...If you read the New testament (2nd testament since I would assume you are referring to the Old Testament as the first)..there's no need for a third...after Jesus' resurrection he appeared for 40 days (contained in the 2nd testament following the Gospel accounts) so If Passion could take 2 hours and 7 minutes, I would thing there is enough material to get a feature length movie out of the 40 days...give or take...
I think Mel's behaviour is reprehensible but if a few people fact check his new project by turning to the source material (the first and second testaments)...I am happy with that

Queen Bee said...

Oh wow, I didn't realize Mel was doing a sequel to the Passion!! So gross if he is using it as a casting couch opportunity

Didn’t Caveizal say he knew that playing Jesus would hurt his career which he said it did. I don’t see how a role in the sequel would be great for a career. Even if it’s a huge hit again Hollywood won’t be honoring it and Mel won’t be giving away any back end for the stars.

Look for the LDS to sue Mel Gibson for that Oassion of the Christ "sequel;" Joseph Smith wrote that. ;-)

The fact that the BI refers to multiple a list "actresses" vying for the lead tends to steer me away from Mel...at least away from the Passion sequel

Okay, I will bite.

This is akin to Paul Harvey's radio show. You think you know all the story, it sounds like a pretty good story, too. But then he says, "...now for the rest of the story." And proceeds to fill in the story that you did not know or even know to ask about.

Honestly, if this is done well, this will be an important movie, if for no other reason than all those people out there to whom the Christian faith is "Jesus, my Lord and Savior, died for me" as well as the non-Christians who find the whole crucifixion to be horrific, and the resurrection unbelievable.

From the perspective of the Church, Jesus' sacrificial
work on the cross is part one of our redemption. I imagine--or perhaps hope- that Gibson tackles this and does so well.

I said to T.W. that I think this film has the possibility of being brilliant, simply from a film-making perspective, and I am going to stand by that. I mean Fellini-like. It has that possibility. We'll see I guess.

@anonymous
I heard it was about the harrowing of hell, but I guess we'll see.

The descent into hell would make a much more fascinating film IMO

HI Enty!

Samantha Willow said...

I'd rather see a solid Dante's Inferno than any of this nonsense, tbh.

anonymous said...

@T.W. and @Sign Name Below - You are correct. I failed to proofread, I meant the movie would cover the three days between the crucifixion and resurrection, including Jesus's decent into hell. I only know this because within the past week, the "faith writer" for The Atlantic (< I think) mocked the movie for deviating from scripture, unknowingly exposing himself as a writer who apparently doesn't know much about his topic.
And @Sign, while I agree it sounds fascinating, I'm a fraidy cat. I will want to go but not sure I could handle it.

Probably about resurerection and St Peter as the 1st Pope and his execution. Mel is not a good Catholic and his lifestyle/hatred towards others is anti Christ. Please go away Mel. Times up

No, Nonya, we do NOT need to upvote/downvote thing back, that thing got ridiculous pretty fast. I remember whenever anything said anything negative about Donald Trump, the comment would get like -99 downvotes or something.

And that ONLY happened to any comments regarding Trump. There was a pattern to it.

Scandi Sanskrit said...

*anyONE said anything about Donald Trump.

Any comments about any other subject would only get less than 30 upvotes/downvotes. The level of downvoting anything anti-Trump comment (possibly by a troll farm) was delusional (it was like saying "Beyoncé is a small-time artist" when in reality big mainstream films reference her to make a point of what a big deal she is (and the film that referenced her did pretty well too). I'm sure I wasn't the only one who noticed.

Gibson's films almost fetishize physical pain. If he goes with his standard impulses, and that is married with a Fellini-esque, Dante influenced walk through Hell, then yeah, I would think it might be difficult to sit through.

The more I write about it, though, the more I kinda want to see this made.

actually casting couch would be ironic . many believed Mary Magdalene to be a prostitute

CUT! lol

DancingInMySleep said...

So, the jist of the sequel is three days in a cave with Jesus wrapped up in a bedsheet? It'll win an Oscar.

emeraldcity said...

I doubt this is the way Mel will be telling the story but there is mythology/legend that Christ went to India after the 'resurrection' and lived the rest of his days there, his tomb is reported to be still there. Mary Magdalen who some excised biblical texts say was Jesus' wife travelled to the ends of the Roman Empire and settled in the South of France where she gave birth to a son, the beginnings of the Merovingian bloodline and the Cathars. Jesus brother is said to have moved on to England and that’s where the Glastonbury tales begin.

If it is about the orthodox version then there will be several female parts Mary Magdelen and Mary his mother perhaps even Salome who was said to be at the resurrection.

sandy2319 said...

@GingerGirl
Totally agree. If I was an actor/actress I wouldn't go near the thing. And to be honest I don't see a sequel coming anywhere near as powerful as the Passion was. IDK maybe because people are running around thinking we are in Revelations right now???

T. W. said...

@Sign Name Below - I hope it works well. Jim Caviezel swears up and down it will be the best year ever. I hope Mel sticks to the actual text and leaves out the Catholic theology. Otherwise a lot of Christians will be pissed. There are reasons people broke away from the Roman Catholic Church.

T. W. said...

@Lucy - People think that because of the way Luke tells the story. If all the Gospels are taken together then Mary Magdalene was not the prostitute.

T. W. said...

@Emeraldcity - Those texts are not part of Biblical canon because they contradict the rest of the Bible. Old Testament prophecies clearly state Jesus would not be physically attractive to women, he would not be married, and he would have no offspring.

T. W. said...

@anonymous and @sign your name below - a lot of Christians are Biblically illiterate. For example, a lot of people think "God helps those who help themselves" is in the Bible. A lot of people also think the Bible says only God can judge them even though The Gospel of John 7:24 clearly says we are to judge with righteous judgements.

I never seen Passion of the Christ. In defense of Gibson, people hated Jesus and crucifixion is the worst way known of to die. I think Gibson wanted us to be sickened and experience some of what Jesus felt.

If the Passion of the Christ sequel starts where the first ends, it will be about the 40 days Jesus spent on earth before ascending into heaven. Problem is, there is very little in the Bible about that period.
