Blind Item #5

This designer is trying everything she can to save her dying company. The victim card is probably not the best way to go since she is not actually going through any type of divorce at this point and she knew exactly what was going on at all times. I mean, not details, but generalities. People told her.

Harvey was an abuser, that doesn't just end with the wife. So she was a victim. What do you do when your husband is an abuser, you have two kids, he basically owns your company. Even if she heard he could still dispute it, say that it's women lying, etc. how would she know. this one isn't fair.

Isn't the fact that Scarlet wore one of her dresses one of the best PR moves she could do? But if Georgina stays married to the creep, even if only in name, why should anyone support her work?

The Vogue interview is like reading a master class version of kneepads.

And Huma has the balls to jump in to the discussion saying how people don't understand how difficult it is to be rich, think, beautiful and on red carpets all the time. Yea, whole lot of sympathy for her and Georgina and their ilk.

Real sorry that Chapman's trophy wife hobby is failing without her predator husband to prop her up. She made her bed now she can lie in it.

She may have been a victim, but that doesn't mean that playing the victim card will save her company, which is the point this blind makes. There's also a lot of gray area or overlap between victim and co-conspirator sometimes.

In my opinion, part of the context here is that the long-term goal of major media coverage is Harvey's triumphant return. It starts with sympathy for his wife, but eventually that will be used to help humanize him and convince people he deserves a second chance -- especially if she never divorces him. If the authorities don't lower the boom on him, that's where we're headed -- a big fat Harvey comeback.

I'm relieved to read a post by someone who sees the complexity of relationships with an abusive partner. Nothing is that black and white. Abusers can be very cunning and perceptive, choosing specific personality types as significant others.

The authorities in NYC are working their asses off to lower the boom. Of course, they are covering their butts because they backed off before, when told to back off, when there was taped evidence, too! There is a big lawsuit headed for the NYPD. Now they are trying to look like the good guys.

It's nearly impossible to pin anything on Harv legally speaking.

I wouldn't call Chapman another victim, but these are not her crimes either. If she becomes a success again, more power to her.

I wonder what first attracted her to a bullying, overweight, hollywood mogul?

@Ilivevicariouslythrougheveryonehere Not at all true for women or men. Nobody "always knows" what goes on when they're not around. Master abusers are slick and know how to cover their tracks, they don't typically have emotions, and they're not about to let someone else get an upper hand even if something is suspected. Doubt she's trying to save her company, it was never that great of a company to begin with. Needing cash to support herself another story, maybe she got paid to talk about it. As for Harvey, of course he will try to make a comeback.

@longtimereader

Ain't THAT the essential question!

And have two kids with him.

Chapman seems simple to me. That could be an act.

she's no victim

she's not a victim and i don't feel sorry for her at all. not one single bit. she knew very well what was going on and the only people i feel sorry for in this situation are the children.

I don't believe for one second that she knew her husband was a rapist, but let's scapegoat the wife instead of the dude who actually committed the crime, huh? Nothing ever fucking changes..

J said...

Oh, this is so sad.

She WORKED SO HARD for everything and didn't rely on her looks.

gauloise said...

Some women are enablers, and dont care about the victims as long as their needs are taken care of. The fact she is not divorcing him says a lot about how she feels about his monstrous acts.

Unknown said...

No one's scapegoating her in this thread, which would mean taking Harvey's responsibilities off his tab and putting them on hers. She is a whole individual with her own adult responsibilities separate from her husband, right? So if people think one of those responsibilities was to report on an abuser/rapist, that's not the same thing as blaming his acts on her. They're two separate people.

Sharon Mitchell said...

She almost certainly knew that he was a cheater who used the casting couch to bribe his targets, but she may not have known he was physically forcing himself on people. Probably figured he didn't need to.

Pity, because her clothes are actually quite attractive.

Unknown said...

Yea, guarantee the commenters here would have no idea if they were dating/married to a pedophile, rapist, etc. Something might seem off, but that isn't where your mind will go automatically because nobody thinks of it. I highly doubt she knew he was abusing women. Guaranteed she knew he was a cheater. Doesn't make her an enabler. Odd that people think he treated her like a princess and she was allowing him to abuse women, but we have a reality TV star as president and people think Kim Kardashian is a genius. Says everything about everybody.

Jon said...

He designs are beautiful. It shouldn't matter what her husband does/did when choosing a dress to wear.

J said...

lol. Hope she fails and wrinkles.

Let someone else take her business... maybe even someone who advanced through real talent.

@J

1. Georgina didn't design anything but she claimed she did.

2. Weinstein told women who appeared in his films to wear Marchesa.

HoneyRyder said...

Sitting down w/Vogue is a safe and predicatable first move for her in this PR game. The below from interview says nothing and everything at the same time IMHO. The last line is her truth.
Was it a good marriage? “That’s what makes this so incredibly painful: I had what I thought was a very happy marriage. I loved my life.”

T. W. said...

@Jon

Those aren't her designs and Weinstein "strongly encouraged" actresses to wear Marchesa.

@J - She used his casting couch to get her first acting role before she started the clothing company, so she knew what he was like before she married him.

purejuice said...

so what did she pay scarjo to wear the marginally on topic dress to the met gala? i didn't see a single other marchesa dress.

OKay said...

@Unknown NO! She was NOT his victim! Harvey was already a monster when she married him, and she knew it. He was the quickest way to get things done, and she took it.

Xanadu said...

I disagree that "women know everything"...

I've known a number of women who were completely ignorant to their family finances, business deals, the will, the girlfriend on the side, the husband using prostitutes, etc. If their men were criminal offenders against women, I can see them not knowing about that either.

Some women are Nancy Drew and others are comfortably numb and oblivious to what is really happening. Until the divorce.

Camal19 said...

Of course Georgina knew about Harvey's indiscretions. All of Hollywood knew. All these actors and actresses are pointing fingers and shunning her...but most, if not all, of them are just as guilty.

I am so tired of people saying "maybe so and so REALLY didn't know!" Everybody knew. EVERYBODY. In 2001, I was a director's assistant which, as most of us know, is pretty much the lowest thing you can be without not getting paid and after 2 weeks in town, I KNEW. My boss told me, his Head of Production told me, actors told me. It didn't matter if you were an A-lister or so unimportant you couldn't even get the assistant to the assistant to return your call, YOU KNEW.

Georgina Chapman is a two-faced lying whore and the fact that she is even trying this is disgusting. She knew Every. Single. Thing. ALL OF IT. She didn't care because (a) it wasn't happening to her - it was happening to people who she would consider unimportant little women; c-listers like Rose or actresses and writers and execs who were nobody and (b)because Harvey could and would call up Gwynnie and tell her "My wife is sending over three dresses for the premiere tonight. Pick one and wear it. That is, if you want us to mount that Oscar campaign for you."

You want evidence? Go on YouTube and watch the last episode of the Jay Mohr/Ileana Douglas series Action from the 1999-2000 season. You'll see a fantastically on-point, thinly-veiled depiction of Harvey at a time when he was too powerful to take down. Those writers knew.

I want to know how much ScarJo got paid to wear that dress and what Wintour has been promised to get on board. I'm thinking $250K?

plot said...

What specifically did you know, Jonathan? That Harvey raped women? In his hotel room? You aren't really clear on that part.

Yes, gossip boards have been alight with Harv's activities since Miramax was formed. No one knew he actually raped women or how he did it. Did you?

"Georgina Chapman is a two-faced lying whore"

My, aren't you charming.

"ScarJo got paid"

You are aware that ScarJo is in the top five richest movie actresses, right? What's she going to do with a measly 200K?

Manuél Bun said...

Umm, why go through all the trouble of dealing with filming movies when she's already so rich? I guess it's because the seminal art that is the Marvel movie franchise is very important to her sense of having contributed truly deep and masterful works to the world's culture. Could never be plain old "no money is ever enough" greed that might also possess her to take money to wear a dress design, nope, not at all

JJ said...

To be specific, we knew that Harvey blackmailed women into fucking him by threatening to ruin their careers if they didn't. We also knew that he forced himself on others. Explicit enough? Go look up Rachel Weisz's comments about her friend who he attacked and who would tell the story to anyone who she met and who got ignored for years.

And as for ScarJo, in Hollywood you can never be too rich or too thin...

plot said...

Again, I ask, when did you know all this? When did the general public know this?

You aren't really addressing those questions by repeating the Harv is a Rapist theme, over and over, which we all know NOW.

When did YOU know, oh mr insider information?
