I honestly don't know too much about breast implants, never saw the point in them, so never did the research.

As far as I'm aware, they just insert the implant. So, if someone has a mastectomy, how do they put an implant? There isn't skin for them to insert it in without stretching to the extreme...; 1:18 PM

Alexstrasza said...: Marieeee, I'm a massage therapist and I have worked with women post mastectomy. Some women choose to get implants after their mastectomies, and yes you are correct saying there isn't much room.

It's a long process to prepare the body to receive the implants. First, doctors will put in small sacs of fluid under the skin for 6-10 weeks at a time in order to allow the skin to stretch, but not too quickly. This has to be done several times until the doctor agrees that there is enough room for a breast implant to be put in.

The cleavage line is different. It’s lower. The recovery time is slow depending on the type of reconstruction one chooses. Most importantly, reconstructive surgery is a process. I don’t know anyone who has it all completed in one shot, and not because of vanity. It’s a road rebuilding the human body that requires a level of patience and a suspension of disbelief you can’t imagine."

Lisa said...: I live about 45 minutes-1 hr from where Officer Jason Ellis was ambushed. This has sent an entire community into shock. Figo was retired and is now living with Officer Ellis's wife and children. The funeral itself was massive in scope with police from all over in attendance and the roadways lined up with people paying their respects as the procession passed.; 3:44 PM

MISCH said...: Yes, everyone is correct however Angie had the breast mass removed not the skin and not the nipple....they did not remove her lymph nodes and she did not have chemo or radiation ....they were able to pop the implant under her skin ...no stretching....done within a 60 day period...next to a woman who has had cancer and a mastectomy Angie's surgery was a day at the beach.; 3:59 PM

keeshlo said...: Hi everyone! I had a double mastectomy with implants. No nipples because radiation makes it close to impossible for them to adhere to the radiated body part. I have never regretted having the reconstruction although as a commenter above stated it is a long and painful process. My plastic surgeon is a reconstuctive genius Dr Anderson from city of hope in Pasadena ca. That said I have felt so pissed at angelina jolie and her sanctimonious smile. Its a petty feeling but her announcement and all the magazine covers proporting her courage just belittled all of us "normals" who deal with the after effects of "real" cancer...makes me so stabby! Have wanted to comment and have stopped myself because it felt so haggy to say. Holla and blessings to everybody else!; 4:09 PM

lostathome said...: That officer being slain has been on tv here since it happened. Pretty big deal. It's like 30 minutes from where I live, and they televised the funeral and everything. A lot of broken hearts. Saying the killer singled him out specifically. Poor guy had 2 little boys, and was very active in the down syndrome community. Huge loss for the police force.; 4:47 PM

She has a gene and she has a shit-ton of money which enable her to choose to proactively remove them and have implants put in their place (assuming she didn't already have other implants in there as well) and could then afford the time off and the expense of recovering with the world up her ass.
What she did is a great thing, if you can afford it, but what it highlights is that there is a subsection of society who can afford to do something like this and then everyone else who just have to wait until fate befalls them then deal with it as bravely as possible.; 6:39 PM
