Paula Wagner Thrown To The Wolves

In an effort to stop the carnage that has become Tom Cruise's life over the past week, Paula Wagner was sent out to deflect some of the attention away from the seemingly endless videos of Tom Cruise spouting off about Scientology.

Paula is convinced that Tom has become a victim of religious prejudice and that if he was espousing more mainstream religious views then he would be embraced.
Wagner said: "I am not a Scientologist, nor are most of the people Tom and I work with, but that doesn't mean I can sit by silently while he is attacked for his religious beliefs. It's easy to mock an out-of-context video. But that doesn't change the fact that Tom Cruise is one of the hardest-working and nicest human beings I have ever known."

The video, whether out of context or not, has nothing to do with whether Tom Cruise is a hard worker. I do admit that Mr. Nice Guy is not what you see when you watch the video, but I suppose you can be pleasant and be absolutely nuts at the same time. I think there is some truth to what she says about the fact that because not everyone understands his religion or cult or whatever it is that he does get a bit more crap than he would if he was quoting the bible and speaking in tongues. We as humans tend to mock what we don't understand. We do understand crazy though. Crazy is crazy, and it is not so much what he said (ok it is) but how he said it. I once said that he was Napoleon reincarnated. A short man who lusted after power and wanted to dominate the world. That is pretty much how I feel about Tom Cruise. The fact that he controls an entire movie studio is also a little frightening. I don't know if he owns the studio for love or money or for some potential use down the road, or if Scientology folks are making a little film in there after dark.

Wagner also went on to address Andrew Morton's new book. She said, "The book is filled with distortions and outright lies that no sensible person will take seriously."

Good thing I'm not sensible then. Honestly what else would Paula Wagner say? Look. She has known the guy for 25 years. I would hope that if I knew someone for 25 years they wouldn't throw me under the bus either. You have to admire her for sticking up for someone hopefully out of friendship and not just because she makes a buck on his films whether good or bad.

Ent, I cannot believe that you didn't reference her husband.

Crazy is crazy, and anyone can see it, whether or not its through the veil of a religion that we do not personally understand. I would say the guy was on drugs, if I didnt already know his stance against them...

Radar had a list of the questions that they ask you when they are reading your thetan levels with an e-meter.

http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2008/01/tom-cruise-scientology-sec-whole-track-questionnaire.php#more

Now, aren't those questions just a bit strange?

Have you ever smothered a baby? - Shockingly no.

Did you come to Earth for evil purposes? - of course, dumb question

Have you ever been a professional executioner? - really, it's just a hobby

Have you ever enslaved a population? - I'm still working on it. I'll get back to you.

That RADAR post was HILARIOUS. I sent it to my entire family last week.

I showed the videos to a friend that doesn't pay any attention to the industry and his reactions was "He sounds like Hitler."

As for Wagner, her response is exactly what I expected. The idea that she thinks Scientology is a "religion" is kinda laughable

Tom is a narrow-minded nutjob who is claiming a superior moral position on the basis of his faith. If he was saying 'live and let live' that would be a different story. As it stands, he's a zealot, which is frightening in ANY religion.

it's only Religious Persecution/Prejudice if it's coming from people who embrace one religion and denounce the others as crazy. That is hypocritical!!!!

However, coming from an Agnostic, it is not prejudice. I'm fine with anybody's relationship with any God. I have a problem with any ZEALOT -- anyone who is trying to control government, education, or any other person. That is WHACK! Tom is a controlling manipulator.

Paula Wagner just confirms that TC has a Jekyl and Hyde personality.

I thinkwe already knew this but his latest video onlky confirms his narcissim.

EL, have you ever actually met Tom Cruise? Have you ever worked for him? You should never judge someone's beliefs or lack thereof. I like Tom's movies, I don't have to like his religion.

ohh good question. I think not, pretty sure not. Here is the subtext of EL's post. Her husband is THE Rick Nicita, uberGod @ CAA. Creative Artists Agency (I think, I should google that) I am also thinking that our beloved EL refrained from saying anything about him is a CYA. Now, I have met them, as in Rare this is Paula Wagner and Rick Nicita. Nanosecond passes by and they move on. These people really make the decisions or influence the decions of people who make the decisions about who gets what, where and how. We love to gossip about the talent, but these are the real deal. The lovely Ms. Wagner is pulling her very own CYA for her AND her company AND her husband's interests. Hey, I would. For that kind of cheese, he is the bestestguythateverwas. If she didn't say that, people would think she was a nutter. The people above them on the food chain are the studio heads and the moguls. I assure you they think TC is a grade AAA nutter. Like Sumner Redstone, for example. (Whom many consider to be a nutter himself. Hey he makes the decisions though)The volume level was on nosebleed when that all went down. SO he turned to the moguls for the fix. What happens now? In the words of Paul Simon "Slip sliding away, you know the earlier your destination the more you are slip sliding away.."
And eerily the next verse.. 'I knew a woman who became a wife, these are the very words she uses to describe herself.'

Who do the SCIs think will actually answer "yes" to any of those questions? I mean, some of 'em might warrant a maybe...

I would just like to point out that everyone now thinks Mel Gibson is crazy and he preaches a very run of the mill Christianity. So really, he's not the 1st big star to get mocked for his crazy, zealous religious beliefs. And it being Scientology really isn't even the point. It's the crazy.

Um, Tom is being attacked because he's batshit crazy, not because of his religious beliefs, though I think the two likely go hand-in-hand. I have a hard time feeling sorry for the "poor, persecuted" Scientologists, being that they tend to use Nazi-like tactics on real human beings in trying to protect their Brand Name.
