Harper's Bazaar Hits Rock Bottom - Miley Cyrus On Cover - And She Lies Or Her Parents Did

Harper's Bazaar has been in existence since 1867. It was America's first fashion magazine. It was the home of Richard Avedon, Carmel Snow, Andy Warhol and so many others has sunk so low that they gave a cover story to Miley Cyrus and even worse called her a cherub in their article. Seriously. Please find me a picture of a gum smacking, "like" saying, cherub. Seriously? This is what this magazine has turned into? "Miley's own look is slightly tougher (though her face is that of a cherub, and it's only so tough you can look with eyes as wide as hers)." Hang on a second, I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Oh, here are some highlights of the interview.

On the Vanity Fair photos (and her lie)- "Here, my parents are thinking they're seeing a beautiful picture by a major photographer, and the people of America want to see something dirty in that?" Now, if you will recall, her parents said they had no idea about the picture at all or what kinds of pictures were being taken because they were not there. They said the first they saw it was when they got the magazine. So, someone is lying here because Miley is flat out saying that both of them saw it and implying they both approved it.

On her stripper pole performance on Nickelodeon - "People like controversy because that's what sells. My job is to be a role model, and that's what I want to do, but my job isn't to be a parent. My job isn't to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I'm still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That's just life."

Apparently pole dancing is how she wants to be a role model? If she knows she is a role model then why would she do it?

Miley then does the sob story. She talks about crying in her mother's lap because she was so happy to be leaving LA to make a movie in Georgia. Oh, and she has never felt at home anywhere. All of us need to cry for her now. Oh, and then it is ok that she got a tattoo because it was for a good cause. Uh huh. I think Cystic Fibrosis would have liked a nice check and not a tattoo above her breast which is going to be seen everytime she poses nude beginning next year.

"It reminds me not to take things for granted. I mean, breathing—that was something none of them could do, the most basic thing," she says. "And I put it near my heart, because that is where they will always be." Uh huh. Whatever. It is Justin, altered to Just Breathe and I don't know why I forgot to reveal that blind item. It is a great cover story though. Great, great PR spin.

So, there you have it. If you would like to torture yourself and read the rest of the interview, click here. If you would like to get your five minutes back that you spent reading this, imagine me having to read the interview and then writing about it.

Hmmm, another un-Enty-like written article today.

What happened to her face? Did they photshop it to hell or did she have some work done already? The nose looks different and the eyes. I know that the teeth are fake but the rest looks 'new' to me.

Like the reveal though I think I kinda had that one figured out.

She's a hideous no-talent troll. And I'm not sure why you think this doesn't sound like Enty. Sounds right to me.

i cannot believe you are sweating a press article. big deal. i'm more disturbed by the tiger woods-demon belly button cover...so trust, VF didn't jump the shark w/ miley. at least she looks lovely in her cover...as for the cherub reference, it's just b/c she has a chunky-monkey face. it's roundy/ovaly w/ no overtly defined bone structure...it's a sweet mushy face. again, not a big deal. your stress level on this is crying out for some chamomile tea. with a shot of bourbon. stat.

AAAAAaaaaahahaha, love the truth behind the tattoo!!

At least when Johnny Depp did it, from "Winona forever" to "Wino forever," he was honest about it.

sounds like Enty to me,not sure where the conspiracy keeps coming from.

It's sad that even a teenager has to be photoshopped to hell to be on a magazine cover.

My least favorite song of the year is the song she sang during her stripper pole routine. Can't hit the radio button fast enough when it comes on. Just looking at her picture put that heinous sound in my head (aghhh).

I think it sounds like Enty too, Jax - I don't understand this whole movement here.

Maja With a J said...

*LOL* @ jax. Don't even get this conversation started *L*

Poor Enty. I don't know how you could have read that article. She thinks we are selfish because we would like our "role model" to age appropriate and not like some ho on the stroll. Oh boo hoo.

childeroland said...

Notwithstanding her 'poor me' tone, I can't see anything too terrible she said in Enty's writeup (I'm not bothering to read the whole interview). She probably shouldn't set herself up as a role model, nor should Disney, and the pole-dancing was in poor taste, but parenting her fans isn't her job--and having celebrities, people one doesn't know, as your kids' role model is never a good idea anyway.

jax said...

trust me i didn't. i'm just getting sick of the thread being hijacked over trivial BULLSHIT. the man writes his own articles and once in awhile posts other people's reviews etc under their own name. whoop di do!

end of f--king story.

back to gossip..

@califblondy - this was what i wanted to say too. started after ents internet connection problems. wich now i think was a setup for the second writer. a blog you can update wireless using a phone, a laptop, whatever. Write first, upload later. And such a smart hiding ent, not managing setup some posts out of a subway restaurant??? makes me wonder...

glad to see im not the only one remarking this.

this is a new style - kinda apprentice cheap gossip street-style. throw up i m m, lots of f***ucking, rants far below the nice decent outlining that was before. not to forget the new advising side of the comments - you should do this, not wear this, what were you thinking... blah.

it is the comments that make the ENT not the news, those are presented and rephrased in many other blogs.

Ent, if you need a break, go easier, work more in these turbulent times - tell us. that will be just fine, just don´t let whoever that is, fill inbetween the bulletpoints you outline.

thx!

When she did that VF cover, the accompanying article compared her voice to Lucinda Williams and hinted at a great future for her as a musician.

I personally have never liked VF anyway but it is hard to get more ridiculous than comparing Miley to Lucinda Williams.

I think Bazaar is doing the same sort of sucking up to the youth market--but why would I want to read a magazine whose staff appear to have abandoned all their critical faculties?

karen said...

What did I miss here?

Thanks Jax. It doesn't seem different to me.

miley sucks. ugh. thanks for the reveal enty... remember seeing those pics of her in a bikini with that tattoo.

Vanessa said...

I totally agree....its a fashion magazine meant for women...why do they have a teenage on the cover....i don't understand.

Tea Lady said...

Which blind was that? I can't remember....thanks!

melanie said...

I guess i feel bad about criticizing a kid, regardless of how much she irks me, she's only 17, and i agree parents shouldn't expect a teen to uphold any values for their kids.

califblondy said...

Christ people I've been reading and posting for a few years now you don't have to bite my friggin' head off. Shit.

Tea Lady said...

And the voice of Miley Cyrus in no way, shape or form, resembles that of Lucinda Williams. What a ridiculous (and/or possibly drug-induced?) comparison!

Linnea said...

i am totally lost as to the controversy over who is writing.

as for miley, i agree that the most horrible thing that is going on right her is the photoshop job they did on her. it looks horrible.

What I can't figure out is why it surprises anyone that Harpers Bazaar would put the most successful popstar in the world right now on their cover. It's not as if Miley hasn't done anything. She has sold out shows people would kill to get tickets for, has top selling albums, a top rated TV show and more Hannah Montana merchandising in the stores than anyone else. She's popular. While many don't like her, I still do and the smartest thing she has ever said was her comment about it not being her job to parent.

She makes a lot of mistakes, as do a lot of kids her age. She hasn't killed anyone, supported terrorism or slept with anyone's husband. Let's give her just a little bit of a break.

Oops...sorry for the double post...I too see a big difference in Ents writing, but who cares.

lmnop123 said...

I think she's way too young for Harper Bazaar's cover page.

This child speaks and behaves like someone who belongs on the cover of Teen Beat (if that still exists) or it's equivalent.

Kelli said...

Wait- can someone fill me in on the blind that he forgot to reveal???

Vanessa said...

agree not my dollar.....all those people that watch her shows, listen to her music and go to her concerts are below the age of 16 years old.

last time I check harpers was for people in their 20's....

Don't get me started on how they are now putting tweens on the cover of elle magazine.....my fave magazine...so sad.

i don't get the hoopla about who is writing....people grow up ...stop pouncing on other b/c they pointed something out about the article.
this isn't a fan site.

role model

a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, esp. by younger people.

Um yes Miley, if you think you are a role model then you are telling kids how to act. Not that I'm not surprised she doesn't know what the word means.

And the whole Enty ghost writer debate is funny. Someone calls Enty out - a bunch of people defend him. It's been going on for years. And yes - I agree his style has changed over the years but who cares - it's snarky, it's funny and he reveals (mostly) great blind items. (I saw mostly because I couldn't care less about the reality star blinds, but that's just me.)

RocketQueen said...

Ugh this whole conspiracy thing is just annoying now. WHO CARES.

As for Miley - cherub? Bahahahahaha! On the flip side, I think we can expect many many more years worth of train wreck behaviour from this one. Buckle up!

sunnyside1213 said...

I don't think Miley is a train wreck yet, but the train is definitely pulling out of the station.

mooshki said...

Here's the link to the blind. Enty, you probably forgot to reveal it because everyone guessed it, so there was no need. :)

Tea Lady said...

Thanks Mooshki! And FTR, the post sounds like Enty to me.

lutefisk said...

Maybe Enty took some writing lessons--who cares. We are getting our CDaN fix, & we are all present and accounted for.
That's what's important.

ChasingHeaven said...

I'm not a Miley fan, but I reluctantly agree that she deserves a break.

I didn't read the article so I don't see how she lied. Couldn't her parents have thought they were looking at a beautiful photograph when they saw it in the magazine along with everyone else criticizing it?

Maybe Harper's is branching out to a younger audience for more sales thus putting Miley on the cover. Most young adults wouldn't pick up Harpers otherwise and this is an ideal way to introduce the magazine to them in hopes of gaining future subscribers.

Why are parents using celebrities as role models? How about developing relationships with their child's coach or other mentor. Someone who can actually teach and guide your child in ways other than looking a certain way or how to flash your who ha when exiting a vehicle. If you don't like what the celeb is doing, parent your kids. Don't get crappy with the celeb for earning a living.

Ok rant over. It's been an ugly day. I too am crying out for the chammomile tea with a shot of bourbon! :)

Lioness70 said...

I can't pinpoint when this "teen celebs as role models" became a big issue, but I can tell you it certainly wasn't when I was a kid or teen (70s and 80s).

Celebrities aren't supposed to be role models. They lived in their own wacked out existences. It's hard to understand who didn't get the memo about that yet.

I don't like her, her parents and her baby sister lol.

not that i'm a miley-lover but damn, there are 17 year olds doing a lot worse shit than miley.

Dear Enty consipracy theorists,

I don't give a rat's ass who you think Enty is/isn't. In fact, I'm not entirely sure I care who Enty is/isn't. I love the blog. I agree with his opinions. I get the impression that the commenters are, for the most part, very intelligent and funny. That's all I want and all I need.

Please pull down your tinfoil hats and take your black helicopters back to your own blog(s), and leave us Enty-fans alone.

Sincerely,

KellyLynn

I don't think this has been answered, so for those asking about the original blind it was posted on 12/3/09:

"This A list tweener has a problem. Well more than one problem but there are some things that can never be taught. Anyway, she had a boyfriend. Not exactly being a role model she got his name tattooed on her body in a place most people won't see for a few more months. Now though, she has a bigger problem than what people say about her tattoo and its location. She has a different boyfriend and he doesn't like opening the presents so to speak and seeing another name so our tweener is going to change it but can't decide if it should be the new boyfriend's name or something generic like don't chew gum with your mouth open."

MCH said...

Not a huge fan of hers but in terms of her being a role model, when my friends/family members w/ kids started noticing she was becoming less of the girl next door and more of a Britney type entertainer, they stopped letting their kids watch the show. Very simple.
The VF photos were overblown, IMO, the stripper pole thing was horrible and I think her parents are clueless but nothing she has done is at all surprising.
I'm sure she is very tired of doing the Hannah Montana schtick but the money, hello!

Doesn't Lilohan also have a "Breathe" tattoo?

lilo probably has an "inhale" tattoo

@ Mooshki. Ohhh...are you emulating Snooki? Are you her biggest fan? ;)

Unknown said...

I can't stand this girl and can proudly say I have never heard her "music."

mooshki said...

Rocket, no I don't know much about Snooki at all - I've been too busy lately to watch 'Jersey Shore,' although I've heard it's awesomely bad. Is she a pickle-spitter too?

Jingle Belle said...

When her family sold her soul to Disney, they were well aware that their daughter's behaviour would be emulated by a million pre-teen girls. In fact, they gloried in the possibility and marketed to to the extreme and made millions from it. It is her parents' responsibility to make sure she lives up to being a role model and HER responsibility also....especially as she also sells herself as a church-going down home type girl.

However, it is also the responsibility of her fans' parents to make their daughters understand what is acceptable and what isn't and I despair when I hear my friends say, "oh she isn't that bad" as they buy their daughters the Hannah Montana little slut outfits at Walmart.

I think our society is doomed.

mags said...

Harper's - I will not buy your magazine again. I don't care for teenagers on your covers even if I like them. Miley on your cover kills it for me.

PJ Nelson said...

Sounds like Enty to me. Just breathe? Priceless...

Ice Angel said...

My kids watch the show and my daughter does try to emulate Hannah Montana and/or Miley Stewart (the character's name.) She really does not know much about Miley Cyrus the person, just her cute, fun, entertaining alter ego. She's only 4, so I don't think I have much to worry about in that department just yet. Oh...and the Hannah outfits are not slutty...they are cute. (IMO)

J-Mo said...

Covers with teens are the reason I don't buy magazines much anymore. I went from about 8 magazines a month my whole life to maybe two now, because I don't want to be part of promoting "celebs" I don't care about. Nothing against Miley, but fashion magazines used to be about the fashionable and their accompanying lifestyles.

RocketQueen said...

@Mooshki - apparently she loves pickles, but doesn't see how they're related to cucumbers.

@ Jingle Belle, very well said!
