Today's Blind Items

#1 - This former talk show host who also happened to marry someone way out of his league, uses match.com now to make it easy for his few remaining groupies to come find him.

#2 - There was a fundraiser for a country recently and this B- list always movie actress (except for cameos) was asked some questions about the country since she was hosting the event. Turns out our actress had it confused with another country and also thought it was on a different continent. Oh, and has never visited.

1. Phil Donahue?

phil donahue?

1. Maury Povich

Lissette said...

Is Jerry Springer married?
If not, I will have to go with Maury Povich

Lady J said...

Maury's show still comes on

Jackie said...

Maury and Springer are still on. Montel isn't too bad on the eyes, so I can't see him marrying someone called "way out of his league."

How about that loudmouth guy from the early 80's. I can't remember his name. But that's who first was in my head.

RocketQueen said...

Maury is still kicking it with paternity tests, so I gotta go Phil Donahue.

Erin said...

You're not thinking Morton Downey Jr., are you? He died.

I can see Springer, but he was hitting on some Baywatch babe at the Hoff's roast saying something like, "I'm not handsome, but I'm rich as *@%#!"

Cecilia00 said...

@Jackie - do you mean Morton Downey Jr.? He is deceased

Anonymous said...

Geraldo Rivera
What # is his wife? Lost count how many times he has been married.

RJ said...

#1, don't know. Maybe Donahue. His persona was always so "Mr. Sensitive, Goody-Goody". That's usually the ones you have to watch.

#2, the first name that sprang to mind was Susan Sarandon. But she's be an A-list, wouldn't she? I know she's done a couple of episodes of Dennis Leary's tv show, would those be "cameos"? Still, she has hosted fundraisers and she always presents herself as so very, very informed (I like her ok, but she's a little pretentious), it would be kind of funny if it were her.

Erin said...

#2 I think I remember that Alba once confused Sweden with Switzerland trying to convey neutrality. Her?

Cecilia00 said...

@Erin ...Alba was the lead on Dark Angel, so she can be ruled out due to her TV resume

Cheryl said...

For #1, none of the obvious choices work. Who had groupies and who really married out of their league except maybe Larry King?

I don't know if Ashley Judd has done tv cameos but she is known for being cunty on her humanitarian trips.

BigMama said...

I realize it isn't her, but am I the only one who thinks Cameron Diaz sounds good for 2?

Erin said...

@Cheryl good guess. Judd was on Star Trek TNG in a cameo.

Cecilia00 said...

Hmmm...Maybe we need to be thinking nighttime for #1??

I thought of Arsenio but don't think he has ever married

Michelle said...

Phil Donahue married Marlo Thomas in 1980. I'd say she was out of his league.

mooshki said...

Ashley Judd was a lead on 'Sisters' for a couple of years. Too bad, I would have liked it to be her.

Emily said...

well...who has a match.com account? someone get on there and look up donahue so we can put this one to bed.

Cheryl said...

I forgot about that Mooshki.

timebob said...

@Erin Alba was getting some wacky questions from a Papparazzi and she told him "to be Sweden about it".

Though the common response would be Switzerland becuase they are most commonly known as a neutral country. Sweden is in fact a neutral country also. So techinically she wasn't wrong it just sounded funny.

While it doesn't surprise me (because having seen a lot of stars being interviewed on red carpets at charity events and stumbling their way through the most basic questions, I realized that a lot of Hollywood knows nothing beyond what Perez Hilton thinks about them) - I will cut a little slack because many 'names' are asked to attend events to add cache but it goes through a long list of PR people and they usually just get the 'you have to be at this event at this time'. It doesn't excuse it but unless they are HOSTING it, I don't expect much. It's kinda bullshit. Charities can only get press at their events if they have stars and stars usually only go to get their photo taken and to look philanthropic.. so it's an uneasy partnership.

No idea who it is though.

Ms Cool said...

#1 Definitely Donahue. He would have had lots of groupies during the day. I would say Marlo Thomas is out of his league as he is such a putz.

Jingle Belle said...

#1 - Howard Stern ....it doesn't specify tv or radio and every woman is out of his league.

sunnyside1213 said...

Stern is still doing his radio show, does that count at talk show host?

Meg said...

#1 - Donahue sounds about right. At least he's using Match & not hiring hookers? I'm not telling my single girlfriend this story since she says both Match & eHarmony have a plethora of married men cheating on their wives.

#2 - Do your homework, celebrity. How embarrassing!

CDAN Mod said...

OMG, Jingle Belle, you should get a Pulitizer for that gem!!! I sure as hell hope that Beth gets a nice check if that marriage fails. It would suck to get paid in Kibbles for being with that dog, but she ain't much of a looker just has blond hair that supposedly represents all things beauty.

LOL.

CDAN Mod said...

MCH, internet dating is full of predators. I believe that the 'success' stories are few and far between.

Meg said...

@rebellious, contrary and nice - Yeah, I have heard some horror stories (& some HILARIOUS stories as well) from gf's for sure. I'd like to believe not everyone on there is a weirdo or married though. :(

sunnyside1213 said...

#2 - do you think the country was Pakistan?

libby said...

C'mom, guys, Phil Donahue? Phil Donahue?

The man is 75 this year! Born 1935.
I would be like his youngest potential 'groupie', and I'm almost 40! And I only got to watch him b/c my parents were lax in supervision.

Seriously, Marlo Thomas' career was Dead with a capital D in 1980, and Phil and the talk show format he created was just taking off.

Phil Donahue?

.robert said...

sunnyside1213, it could be the Darfur region within Sudan and maybe they confused it with Pakistan.

joymichelle said...

Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas are STILL MARRIED.

libby said...

worse, it could be Pakistan v. Haiti.

libby said...

joymichelle, did someone say they weren't?

sunnyside1213 said...

robert, I think you are on the right track. They are certainly on different continents.

I'm so excited - I actually know one! Number one is Tom Green. I know this because I saw him on Match about three months ago. He married Drew Barrymore which is the definition of out of his league and I think he had a short-lived, possibly online, talk show. SOLVED!

Jaiden_S said...

I think the talk show host is Geraldo. He probably still has groupies.

No clue on the actress.

Karmen said...

Lori - HA! That's awesome. I'm not sure if Tom Green was ever actually a talk show host, but he definitely did marry someone out of his league. Regardless, nice scoop!

moi said...

#1 can't possibly be Springer, he's not married out of his league. I've seen him and his wife around town from time to time and they look like the typical South Florida retiree couple with money.

sunnyside1213 said...

I think Tom Green had some kind of talk show out of his parents basement.

tina said...

i think Lori is right! He had a talk show on both MTV and comedy Central AND Drew was WAYYYY out of his league!

Good job Lori! :)

sunnyside1213 said...

Tom Green had a talk show on MTV. Lori ftw!

RJ said...

Lori, I think you are right! Wow, Tom Green groupies. Three words you don't see put together too often.

Meg said...

LOL @ libby

Well, the Tom Green guess definitely makes more sense.

I was reading the blind in that the person was still married.

captivagrl said...

Dennis Miller?

RocketQueen said...

Good job, Lori - that's gotta be it!

who was the talk show host or interviewer that was mean to katherine hepburn when she couldnt remember his name during the interview and he went off on her? was it phil? i totally just remembered that randomly

SkittleKitty said...

Thank you Libby for saying what I was thinking re: Donahue.
Tom Green def.

MnGddess said...

Actually, the way it is written, you can take is as currently or formerly married. And Drew Barrymore was waaay out of his league.

Mango said...

#1 - Tom Green has groupies? Boggles my mind. Note to his fans: Please aim a little higher, girls (and guys?)

#2 - @.robert - I think you nailed that one. I was thinking some actress got Austria and Australia confused, lol, but what event could our unnamed actress be hosting for either of those countries? Incidentally, I hope it's Ashley Judd. She is one uppity beeyotch.

Mark said...

1 - I'll throw up if "league" refers to the NBA and the answer is Magic Johnson.

MoniMc said...

#1 - Danny Bonaduce?

#2 - Could be anyone.

Lindsay Lohan hosted a fundraiser for Haiti, but it's been several months. It's always hard to judge when a blind says "recently". Recently could be within the last year.
But anyway... from one article about the event:
Lindsay Lohan looked a little confused last night as she arrived at the Haiti benefit at Altitude 360 in London. Linds hosted the celebrity fundraiser IRock4Haiti along with Haitian musician Wyclef Jean. The fundraiser was set up in association with The British Red Cross and also featured guests celebrating British music.

Not relevant, but I remember a great line in the movie Ruthless People. Bill Pullman played a stupid stoner surfer type villain, who said something along the lines of, "Once we (finish this scam) we're off--to HAITI!" His co-conspirator/lover replies, "Not HAITI you fool. TAHITI!

KLM said...

Good job Lori - I think you solved #1! It's always exciting when a blind is seemingly solved...

PotPourri said...

I think a million women, including myself would jump Jerry Springer on the street corner if we met him.

Montel has no 'anything' left, so I'll go with him.

Gypsy said...

Um, I'd be Montel's groupie any day. Yowza!
And I have no guesses.
I like the Tom Green though, until his name came up I was cursing Viagra, match.com and Larry King. Phew!

blankprincess said...

I wonder if #2 could be Julia Roberts. I know she was a big presence at the "Hope for Haiti" concert, but I don't know if she would be considered the hostess. She's always done movies, but is also well-known for doing a couple of cameos on TV shows on which her then-boyfriends starred: Friends (Matthew Perry) and Law and Order (Benjamin Bratt). Did anyone here watch "Hope for Haiti" enough to say whether she was the "hostess?"

blankprincess said...

Well, except that Roberts is probably perma-A List. Duh. :(
