What Is Jodie Foster Smoking?

Jodie Foster gave an interview to Extra where she called Mel Gibson, "the most loved man in the film business." Really? No one is more loved? Well, I am glad someone loves him because it sure is not me. I'm trying to think of some redeeming qualities and I really don't have any that spring to mind. I guess that people who know him would call him loyal. Jodie says that Mel is an incredible and loyal friend who is just going through a rough time.

I think Mel has been going through similar episodes for awhile but we, the public, just have not been privy to all of them. There is no way he went through all those years of marriage with Robin and was perfect. Robin or whoever else was involved probably just decided to ignore it or make it go away. You don't just suddenly become the Mel Gibson of the past few years.

Apparently Mel has more than one friend because he is filming a cameo in Hangover 2 which sucks because I really wanted to watch that movie.

He does have three redeeming qualities: Lethal Weapon I, Lethal Weapon II, and Bird on a Wire.

oh, I don't know if you can count bird on a wire. LOL I will give him his historical pieces up and until we get to the Passion of Christ. Though I had a hard time forgiving him for the one he did with Julia Roberts....just terrible.

It's about money and favors owed...can not be any other reason to support this bigot.

I'm starting to believe the person who posted that Mel may be her sperm doner.

Jodie has always been such a private person, I can't imagine why on earth she'd speak out now in defense of Mel...unless...

What gives? She must really owe him.

She's a master story teller, a fabulous director, and one of the acting greats. I will NEVER watch another thing she's involved with.

It's an interesting situation when a friend is a complete and total freak. What would YOU do if you had a friend like Mel? I suppose on the one hand, she could be encouraging him to get therapy and whatnot as a long time friend should - on the other - this is Hollywood, where money is king. Until Mel has a flop of master proportions, it appears that he continues to wield considerable influence in movieland. The first time Hollywood ignored him he used his own money to churn out Passion of the Christ. I'm guessing the movie studio types could care less what kind of ass he is in his personal life; as long as he makes money, there will be folks that support him.

Isn't he the only person in Hollywood who gave Robert Downey Jr. a second chance? I find that a redeeming quality.

here's how i look at it. If i took every movie star who's life choices/views i disagreed with ...i could find enough reasons to never watch another movie. So i choose to look at the content rather than focus on the individual.

Many of you have made a choice to never watch him again and that is cool. But i dont feel the same so hopefully you will respect my choices.

Can't wait to see hangover 2 !!

what canadachick said. I can't get morally outraged over movie stars, musicians or athletes. I really don't give a hang about their personal lives. Well, I love to gossip about it obviously (that's why I come to this site), but at the end of the day - I don't really care.

"I choose to look at the content rather than focus on the individual" - DITTO!

Susan, what did he give RDJ a second chance with?

Jodie would have come across better if she had said he is the most loved amongst his friends. Unless she means he's the most loved man in Hollywood because how can you get much lower than him?

Hangover 1 sucked, but that's me. I guess Jodie is a loyal friend. Not a Mel fan nor much of a Jodie fan prior to Hell Mel's breakdown. LOL.
Half of the peeps in HWOOD are not what they seem anyway.

@shakey

From RDJ's Wiki page:

Downey was able to return to the big screen only after Mel Gibson, who had been a close friend to Downey since both had co-starred in Air America, paid Downey's insurance bond for the 2003 film The Singing Detective.[36] Gibson's gamble paved the way for Downey's comeback, and Downey returned to mainstream films in the mid 2000s with Gothika, for which producer Joel Silver withheld 40 percent of his salary until after production wrapped as insurance against his addictive behavior; similar clauses have become standard in his contracts since then.

I only stop watching the performance when what I know about them is to much in the forfront of my mind. For instance, I was shaky about Angelina. After the whole angie/brad/jen crapfest, I found it hard to put it out of my mind when watching the movie she did with Brad. I don't boycott her but frankly I find it hard not to be annoyed with her when watching her movies. Same with Mel, every time I try and watch his movies all I can think about is - he is batshit crazy. Ruins it. However, since someone brought him up, RDJ doesn't bother me. Of course he is extremely gifted as well. So, whatever, end rant. :)

Jodie either really owes Mel or he's got the goods on her. Mel as her sperm donor works in my conspiracy theorist brain, too.

Why not just give Chris Brown a cameo beating the crap out of a Rhianna look alike too. SSOOOOOO FUNNNYYYY!!! not.

Mel may be a disgusting bigot and raging alcoholic, but what kind of 'friend' would desert a good friend when they're down?

I'm not a fan of Jodie Foster and I detest Mel for a number of reasons that began long before the Oksana thing, but Jodie is doing what a friend does: she's sticking by him. We don't have to like it. We don't have to watch any of his movies ever again.

But would you want your friend to desert you when the rest of the world turned its back on you? I wouldn't.

I'm with MISCH - a long history together and a need to recoup some funds is what's going on here.
Also, I really liked "Apocalypto".

Mel's behavior aside, his father's such a loon I'd really hesitate before using any of the Gibson family's sperm.

I agree about the need to support your friends, but these repeated public statements make me question her judgement. I don't like making this sort of statement about divorced couples, but maybe her ex has dodged a bullet.

I would think she is too much of a feminist to put up with his kind of BS.

All his BS aside...I loved him in The Patriot. (RIP, Heath).

MCH said...

I agree w/ @canadachick.

Although, I haven't really loved anyting Mel's been in, in the last 10 years so...shouldn't be a problem.

Mango said...

Usually someone's real life behavior/antics don't bother me much UNLESS THE PERSON IS BAT SHIT CRAZY. Or an unremitting bigot or an abusive asshole. Good ol' Mel hit the trifecta.

Oh and I never liked the Lethal Weapon movies with Mel doing the widened eyes/heavy breathing schtick to show how intense he was. The soundtrack was awful, too.

I'm on the "Mel is Jodie's secret baby daddy" train, too.

OT...Joe Pesci from LW I (I believe)..."You don't go through the drive through, they F__k you every time." So true, so true. ALWAYS check your bag before pulling away.

Well, Hangover #1 had Mike Tyson, so it makes perfect sense they'd have Mel for #2.

It's the way of sociopaths. They are incredible friends to people who can do something for them. The way to judge a person's character is to see how they treat people who aren't in a position to be of use to them.

Agree Melody. I am so disappointed that he is going to be in HO 2.

Jodie has a vested interest in releasing The Beaver which stars Mel. Expect her to keep talking about how great he is. And sadly, even if the actors hate him, all the Hangover 2 actors will talk about how great he is too. Because they will want the movie to succeed.

I sometimes think a lot of actors and crew from his other movies post on gossip sites defending Mel because their royalty checks depend on it.

is he the father of her kids or something??

Duh duh duh!!

Jody has to only be basing her opinion on the superfun time she had making Maverick with him.
I know I had fun watching that silly movie, especially her acting all girly. What a talented actress.what a hoot!
James Garner didn't hurt either.

@everyone who's brought up the subject of "could he be?"
If I remember correctly, the donor was never identified?
I for one will put down a dollar that says yup, he's her baby daddy.
Lets face it, if you could remove/ignore that &*@)(#$!%$*@! personality, he really was a handsome man back in the pre-sugartits days...and I'm willing to bet at the time Ms Foster knew nothing about the high potential for insanity with that gene pool.
She was probably just thinking that he'd make pretty babies.

ardleigh said...

I thought Matthew McConaughey was her baby daddy. They did that movie Contact together (1997) and her son was born in July 1998. Maverick was done 1994.

she does realize that he thinks she is going to hell. right? I do not believe that a man with his ridged beliefs would give 2 gay women his sperm. it just.. well he is crazy, so who can say.
