Is Bradley Cooper in Cannes? If so, I'll bet it was his lap she was on. I don't personally like him much, but replacing an aging heart throb with a current one would be an good way to push Clooney's buttons.

Maybe it's ego. There has been no split announcement. Someone like Cooper (who is likely gay) has beard girlfriends. Clooney says Adios to her, biding his time to announce it. She preempts him by showing up on the arm of a much younger A-list star in the tabs. The last thing Clooney expects from his contract girlfriends is to end up looking as if she dumped him for a younger model.

@Phoenix: Clooney doesn't want to have to see the broads again. He allegedly kept Keibler from doing DWTS All Stars, because they gave one of his broads an extra 15minutes of fame by having her on the show.
