Queen Latifah Cancels Bill Cosby Interview Over Rape Allegations

With all of the buzz surrounding the firing of CBC broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi and the rape and assault allegations by almost a dozen women, Queen Latifah made the brave and correct decision to cancel an interview she had scheduled with Bill Cosby to promote his new comedy tour. Bill Cosby has a long track record of serial infidelity and rape allegations that have been leveled against him in the past by at least 13 women but no one ever said or did anything and they all went back into the shadows. This time it is different. One of his victims, Barbara Bowman recounted her time with the comedian and this time, there is going to be some long term damage to the career of Cosby that he won't be able to laugh his way through. Queen latifah does not want any part of having a rapist or alleged rapist on her show no matter who he is or how wholesome he may appear on the outside. Just because you once starred on a long running family show does not make you your character. Hello Stephen Collins.

Everyone knew he was a cheater, but when this rape stuff started coming out few years ago, that really took the shine off him. Matter of fact, im thinking of an old cdan blind where actress met with male actor who had sterling dad like reputation who dosed her and raped her and she cldnt believe it. Now! said...: Should also point out that one of the reasons the Cosby issue is big now is because a comprehensive biography of Cosby has just been published that doesn't mention the allegations at all.

The biographer, Mark Whitaker, said this was because he couldn't 'independently confirm' the allegations, although at least one was publicly filed in court in 2006 (and privately settled). Whitaker also got unprecedented access to Cosby for the book, so there's certainly the suggestion of a trade-off there.

Of course, the law of unintended consequences meant that the omitted allegations was all anybody talked about. This lead to Hannibal Burress' stand-up routine, which lead to Barbara Bowman's interview, which lead to Latifah, etc. etc.

I think if the allegations had actually been part of the book, they might have been skipped over as 'old news.'; 8:26 AM

Rosie riveter said...: I think you're right, she likes to be likeable...but i don't think that's why she cancelled the interview- MamaBearlezzies have something in them- like an inability to stand for injustice, and pretty tough and strong convictions- i understand this may not be the most agreed with statement,but In my experience ALL of the women I've known (to have her personality type)have been pretty honest, standup ladies.

Ms Cool said...: We had a personal experience a few years ago where my then 9-year-old son got to meet him before a show after writing him a letter asking to do so.

Mr. Cosby could note have been kinder or more accommodating to my son. However, my son became shy and every time I tried to encourage my son to speak, Mr. Cosby told me to hush. The way he said it was humorous, however, I felt a little funny about it. My excitement for my son and our chance to meet someone we had listened to and watched for decades brushed it off.

What I couldn't brush off was his actual show. The vitriol towards his wife and women wasn't funny. It was sad and disappointing.

I read the articles mentioned, hoping that they would be absurd and untrue given our personal experience and my admiration over the years. The stories are decades old. There is no physical evidence. However, it sounds really, really bad for him and I came away with a lot of disappointment and a gut feeling that the stories are true. Maybe I can empathize given that he was rude to me. Being rude does not make a rapist, though.

Being a celebrity accused of these allegations is a double-edged sword. Fake allegations for fame, money are bound to turn up. Yet money can take care of fake or real allegations. It is hard to know what to believe. My gut says he isn't a nice person and I wouldnt be surprised if the stories are true. Sad.; 8:39 AM

If the allegations about Cosby are untrue, how does someone ever regain their reputation.

I think if you are a celebrity with a brain you have to understand that even what you perceive as innocent behaviour can get you in trouble if someone wants to blackmail you or ruin you and you should precede very very carefully each and every day.

Of course the flip side is that celebrities think they are somehow immune to consequences for bad behaviour because often it is true but eventually it all catches up to you, right Mr. Gomeshi?; 9:04 AM

Juniper Girl said...: I've given Bill Cosby the side eye for almost 30 years based on a friend's experience with him. My friend was at Penn Relays and Bill Cosby was there. He asked him for him autograph. He refused. (My friend is half Puerto Rican but takes after his Irish mother.) He said that he then turned around and then proceeded to sign autographs for every black person around him. After I heard that' I really couldn't buy the "all around good guy" act. Then, the rape allegations started coming in, but they seemed to be quited rather quickly.; 9:56 AM

ADW was a major hit show. NBC (who sided with ratings king Cosby) told her not to bother coming back for season 2 just like that!? Something very hinky went on there. It's also been reported that NBC wasn't comfortable with Lisa having dreadlocks, wearing a nose-ring and baggy hippy clothes on the show.
