Today's Blind Items - Kindness
I have talked a lot of smack about this actress over the years. It didn't have to be that way. I actually used to have a crush on her way back in the day and then she went and got all strange and decided to have an affair with a married guy who was a co-star and got into a love triangle and it was just a big mess and it seems like her once promising barely A list movie career turned into a B- lister who is living off that earlier fame. Not so much of a kindness to start, but she is doing some amazing things for those less fortunate and actually has raised millions of dollars for orphans and has fostered ten children herself over the years and has raised money for missions to help orphanages in other countries and to get group homes built and schools and to provide them with the best chance of getting adopted by a family and if they can't, to at least make sure they have the best life and education to succeed on their own when they get older. She works hundreds of hours a year on the cause and gets little to no recognition for what she does.

The departure of Julia Stiles from Dexter was the beginning of the sharp decline of that show. Some will blame her. Some will blame Jennifer for created the back stage drama that caused the writers to get rid of Stiles far too quickly.
But Michael C. Hall was an executive producer on that show and should not have shat where he ate. Julia's storyline should have lasted into season 6 (I'd guess for at least half way, based on her character development.) Julia was doing an awesome job on that show, maybe the best of any actress I saw on it.
But the harpies of Hollywood have condemned her, including Ent. Please. Michael C. Hall fuckt her from a superior position, screwed up her rep and the entire show. And S6 became completely focused on Colin Hanks, ugh, and that ridiculous Horsemen premise. Things only declined further from there.
Assign blame where it is due, for fucks sake! Julia was terrific on Dexter. It's Michael who destroyed his marriage and a whole show by passing around his producer dick on set.

Actually...I think the Julia Stiles might be the best guess. She was just about an A list actress in the early 90's, but now is considered a B- lister.

Julia is a great guess. The way she left the show was lame. The way they ended Dexter was the worst.

I love Julia and really missed her from Dexter. I never felt that the blonde follow-up was all that interesting and didn't really warm to her until very, very, very near the end.

@Tricia I'm there with you girlfriend. Ashley has worked with disadvantaged kids for a loooong time. Both here & OS. She may be unpleasant to work with & she has done things that millions have done before, but I love her irreverence. Having a mani-pedi with her may be a bit challenging, but maybe I'll have a fab colour chucked at me ;)

She doesn't donate time or money to any causes. Everything she does these days is paid (or at least all-expenses-paid) - and always has been.
And as for her OS (overseas?) "work" - she hasn't been overseas in YEARS and is coasting on a few weeks-long trips she made back in the day.
When she did go overseas, she insisted on being flown first class everywhere she went, she complained about being constipated and needing 13 hours of down time a night, then she demanded acupuncture (which is not easy to come by in a third world country), and her "work" really consisted of being driven around to orphanages and brothels in an air-conditioned jeep, where she would hop out, hug a sex worker or orphan for the cameras, or put a condom on a dildo, then get back in and drive to the next pitiful orphanage or brothel for another photo opp.
She wrote a book about all this and then started a second career where she charges $50K and up to make people feel all compassionate on the rubber chicken circuit, telling them these "sacred narratives" that third world people supposedly "entrusted" her with ... because what beaten down sex worker in an African brothel doesn't take one look at this B-list actress from America whom they've never heard of, and decide that this total stranger is the person they want telling their story to fat well-heeled Americans who will then pose for a photo with her after her talk, and go home and do absolutely NOTHING to help anybody.
You know that line from The Usual Suspects "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist?"
Well the greatest trick Ashley Judd ever pulled was convincing the world she's a "humanitarian." When in fact she makes a tidy living in her second career on the lecture circuit and she's so cheap she squeaks.
Just check out her federal campaign donations in the past 14 or so years. Until she donated $5K to Hillary Clinton's campaign earlier this year, she was averaging about $350 a year in federal campaign contributions. That's little people money. As in, I bet half the people posting on CDAN donate more than she does.

All these celebrities are the same - they pretend to be humanitarians while profiting off this "work" they supposedly do. tBono gets $100K and up per speech, Mia Farrow was paid $188,000 by the government of Ecuador to help them in the most corrupt litigation ever, against Chevron, where they won a multi-billion dollar judgment in a case where EVERYBODY - judge, lawyers, "expert" witnesses, all down the line - was bribed or paid off.
Once again, NOT Ashley Judd.
And as for that affair with Robert DeNiro during Heat? Considering he likes them milk chocolate or darker, I seriously doubt she's his type. I've never seen corroboration of that story.

@skippy so would I. I get uncomfortable being treated special amidst so much poverty. But then again I don't have this deep-rooted narcissistic belief in my own specialness like Ashley Judd does. Why, just a hug from her will change an orphan's life forever, right?
It just fries me when someone insists on a $25,000 first class trip when that money could build a lot of wells to give fresh water to villagers who might have to drink dirty water or travel miles to get clean water.
And then (if you read the link) has a meltdown on the flight home, dissolves into a puddle of tears and has to be comforted by her (ex-)husband because those fuckers (flight attendants) refused to stop clinking the ice in the drinks they were making and it BOTHERED her.

@Tricias. I was gonna comment on the deniro / narci affair. I'd never heard that before. I'll have to google, but I know u know lots. Prunella made a point I considered about Deniros type...but I also know we all branch out at least once (or errr 45) times. I've always given Deniro and Serpico a free pass - I don't want to believe anything bad. But things have changed. I WANT TO KNOW.
@SYF ..yes it is somewhat, unrealistic, to believe a man like Deniro((or any man actually) adheres to such a categorically limiting code. To say he never enjoyed the company of an attractive Caucasian woman is both myopic, and in this case- erroneous.
@prunella....it is clear you are disdainful of Ms. judd and that is absolutely granted you(I do not know her nor have I worked with someone who-does; I am not a character witness for her, rather, i strongly suggest the notion that she is incapable of charitable work(which is proven to have been done) is as well, empirically presumptive as asserting DeniIro never slept with a white woman...
I hope it's styles...just never heard shite about her humanitarian nature(yes, the point of blind is "unclaimed"..but I have a hard time believing she is so altruistic with no as you say, corroborating evidence....
And For the record...when you read this blind closely, it implies that the this "once almost A list movie career went kaput "because of her behavior....not her b list TV career aka/styles on Dexter.....

Yup, I'm disdainful of Ms. Judd - I know two people who know her very well going back 15-20 years and the stories they tell!!!
I actually met them AFTER I developed this dislike of her. It all started when I heard that she had written this wonderful feminist essay lashing back at people criticizing her puffy face. Before that I knew very little about her and had a vaguely positive impression of her as being an interesting, intelligent actress (though the screen always seemed to go a little flat when I saw her in a movie and I would feel oddly disappointed) ... then I sought out this marvelous feminist essay and couldn't believe what a load of twaddle it was. It was so self-congratulatory, so predictable, and it read like something written by a high school student who desperately wanted to impress her English teacher on whom she had a crush.
I was actually IRRITATED by it. So I started googling her and found these lovely people who know her and the more I learned, the more I disliked her.
I particularly dislike the perception gap between what she actually does in terms of social justice ... and what people THINK she does.
As for the DeNiro rumor, I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying I've never seen any corroboration of it and he DOES have a strong type - and she ain't it.

@Missgrova - BRILIANT! She's a complete and absolute bingo for Enty's description of her. I just don't know if she's ever done volunteer work. But I guess that's the point of the blind ... that it goes unrecognized.
She's still kind of crazy though. I heard that in the past couple of years she has:
- crashed an Oscar bash to which she wasn't invited and was (I forget) either arrested, or just hauled out of there
- got drunk at another high profile event and heckled the honoree from her seat.
Angelina jolie - affair with married costar brad pitt in mr and mrs smith - went all weird before that when she was with billy bob - Actually does spend millions on charities
Maybe, except Angelina Jolie is not a B- lister who is living off her previous fame. She's an A+ lister thanks to her partnership with Brad Pitt. Well, maybe her career isn't A+ but her name recognition is, and her career is certainly higher than B- at the moment. She's still starring in movies that make money. And she has an Oscar, and Enty usually mentions that.
Enty talks a lot of bs about Kidman who has doanted lots to orphanges where she films, but doubt this is her cause she is A list.
