Andre's also the only one who fits the "list" descriptors. He earned celeb status beyond his on-court achievements (Johnny Mac was a celeb at the level of his tennis success, not really beyond it) but he was very good, if not as good as his contemporary, Sampras. (By comparison, Anna Kournikova would also score higher as a celeb than as tennis player, but that would be like "B list celeb with A list name recognition" in her prime; she was never A list on-court.)
my immediate thought too-it's interesting that people have such different names that come to mind.I think Agassi & Bjorn Borg..others McEnroe & Riddick,etc-it's cool.
Andre wouldn't cheat on Steffi, and they would say something about her in the blind, yes? I love Johnny Mac, but it could be him. I'd say he reached A list celebrity status by virtue of his marriage to Tatum O'Neal and all the backlash.
