So, funny! I have been married for 30 years and have only thought/wondered what IF I had fooled around. I decided that what I would lose was too much and put those thoughts away.
I believe people fool around with other people because they have lost respect for the person they are with whether they are married or not.
And, IF you don't respect that person anymore, then you need to move on and the other person needs to run away from you quickly -- before they get hurt even more.
