Today's Blind Items - That Time This Thing Happened

Back in the day I was at this festival type concert. It was a strange mix of really big headliners and past their prime singers and groups. There wasn't any one big story that came out of it that could really be a long blind item. But, it was probably one of the craziest days I was witness to. That is the other thing. I basically had a day where I just happened to be in the right or wrong place depending on how you look at it at the right time.

The headliner of the show was this mother/daughter duo. Tough to figure out huh? Anyway, the daughter was ready to go on stage, but the mom was not. The daughter said, "She's probably getting f**ked again. Whenever she finds a new guy that is all she does." OK, shocking enough. BUT, it gets better. She is saying loudly while next to the parked tour buses. When she finishes, a window opens in the back of the bus and the mom wearing some kind of fishnet in place on her head is putting a wig on her head and says, "I'm not f**king anyone. We finished ten minutes ago but I can't get this damn wig on my head."

At some point during the day, I feel this tap on my shoulder. I don't recognize the person right away. You wouldn't either. Despite the group's catchy name and a massive hit, all of the good stuff in their career was a decade behind them at that point. Anyway, she asks if I can run her back to her hotel because she can't find anyone else to take her and she has to find something different to wear on stage. When she said that, I looked a little closer and did recognize her. Think of her in the Paula Abdul kind of style. Had a couple of number ones in a row. I said I would take her. She said had to be on stage in an hour. The hotel was probably ten minutes each way, so probably not a big deal. When we got over there I thought she would have me wait in the car while she ran upstairs. Nope. I had to park and go in with her and then when we get to her room. Wow. This was a one night hotel stay. It looked like an episode of Hoarders. There were literally hundreds of outfits tossed all over this room. Hundreds. there were another three or four wardrobe racks filled with hanging clothes. She says it will just take a minute and so I try and find a seat. She starts throwing things around looking for something she sees in her mind. While she is doing this she takes off all her clothes. Yep, right down to naked and starts holding things up against her body. I look at my watch and tell her we really need to hurry. She is oblivious. in her own world. Just walking around naked holding up clothes. Finally after the fifth time I mention we should go, she grabs an outfit. I expect her to put it on but then she grabs a second outfit but can't decide between the two. She puts on one and brings the other one. In the car she changes her mind and changes the outfit while I'm driving. We get to the venue and she says thanks and then walks 50 yards over to the stage, meets the people in her band and walks up the stairs just as they are introducing her. Perfect timing.

Not five minutes after this happens there is some kind of commotion and this other washed up performer who had been a teen singer in a group before heading out on her own to some success is beating her drummer with her guitar. Just smacking it against him. The guy goes down and she is not going to stop but this security guy tackles her to the ground. As in just like an NFL style tackle. She goes down hard. So, then she starts hitting him and the drummer she was beating gets up and joins in on the hitting of the security guard until that is broken up. Don't do drugs kids.

I saw this former A+ list country singer from a group that now runs a Christian label getting orally serviced by a girl who was probably legal but looked to be about 14. The guy was married at the time. I'm too lazy to look up whether he still is. He was always an a-hole.

Oh, there was another drummer. This one from one of the all time great bands. Sounds like something an inexpensive hooker would say. Anyway, he was trading autographed drumsticks for photos of women who would flash for him and let him take a photo.

There was this at one point barely A- list singer while he was in his group who is a celebrity offspring who was so drug sick that he would take long breaks during the songs so he could come to the side of the stage and puke.

Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles?
Drummer--Peter Criss of KISS?

I'm hoping it was Susanna Hoffs for you Enturd because she was hot and worth seeing nekkid. My other choice was Katrina from the Waves

Derek Harvey said...

Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam as Paula Abdul singer

female teen singer in a group--Lita Ford?

+1, the Paula Abdul like girl - Vanity? Bonnie Tyler? That woman that sang Betty Davis Eyes?

Elle B said...

was it the 2008 stagecoach fest?

Guesser said...

If it was Susanna Hoffs why would he complain? She was hot for years after, and he should be asking her to take her time. Probably someone who got fat or a drug mess. Or enty is gay.

Guesser said...

Too recent. Most of his real stories are from late eighties mid nighties.

Derek Harvey said...

as I guessed below--I would put money on Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam---Lisa looks and sings very much like Paula---Susanna Hoffs Bonnie Tyler etc are more rock chicks ...but maybe Vanity...

Good one. She had some problems as well. Now do your research and see if she shared a bill with the Judds.

The drummer from Cheap Trick is the second-to-last one.

I did/I am--cant find anything---but this line-up seems SO RANDOM. What type of festival would have The Judds and some pop princess and classic rock etc etc

2009 CMA music fest?! That looks like the last festival The Judds played.

his thailand food poisoning story was 08-09

Maybe it was Taylor Dayne or the one that sang Gloria, but Katrina was kinda hefty.

Damn what stories do you guys know about Lisa Lisa. She is from Hell Kitchen in NYC and a beloved neighborhood hero? am sad to hear there is gossip about her...but inquiring minds what to know?

Guesser said...

Maybe a fundraiser for hurricane ,flood, think Texas or California. His Farm Aid blind had random acts, disaster relief causes bring out the odd line ups. The Judds would be big during this time since they are the easy guess.

The music ones seem to be when he worked as a gofer for someone in the industry. He also changes dates sometimes to protect the guilty.

Guesser said...

Not really anything too bad ,just the problems with young stardom suddenly disappearing. She does seem to be doing good as far as I know. She's still only 49 so I imagine that she may still perform with the nostalgia for that time.

Last one....one of the Nelson brothers.

Sounds like a typical day for her during this time frame.

Lisa Lisa was who I thought of.

That makes sense.

... and if it wasn't for you pesky kids I'd have gotten away with it.

I see that both The Judds and Lisa Lisa and the cult Jam both performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1990

A+ country singer in band seen getting serviced - Charlie Daniels?

Dondi said...

There's a list of performers on this page: http://wikibin.org/articles/previous-performers-at-the-houston-livestock-show-and-rodeo.html
It seems like he might be referring to artists who played in both '89 and '90. The Judds played both years, Lisa Lisa only in '90, Cheap Trick only in '89. The country star from a band may have been one of the Gatlin Brothers ('89).

Teamwork ! Thank you. They have it on the official website but I could not for the love of god stop it from reloading.
I know absolutely nothing about country music but that lineup seemed pretty incredible. The Highway man super band.. No idea that even happened.

Guesser said...

I was right about Texas! I'm surprised it wasn't,a fundraiser.Sounds just like one of Enty's old gigs though. Livestock and Rodeo!

Guesser said...

I think Larry Gatlin is the country singer. He's still around and very religious now.

Kym said...

I have no idea if it's correct. I'm horrible with this crap but if anyone cares to look to see if any names from the list would work in Entys stories here you go :) I took performers from both 89 and 90. I might have missed a few and definitely killed the spelling on some

A+ country singer from a group that now runs a Christian label - Vince Gill? Married to Amy Grant who was a Christian singer.

Mr. Knowitall said...

Vince Gill is as far from an asshole as you can find. Not him.

hothotheat said...

The lead singer from Sawyer Brown started a christian label but I don't the they would be A+ list.

OKay said...

Kenny Rogers was A+, and he's been married a bunch of times...

A+ country singer from a group: Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown, runs Beach Street Records.

Guesser said...

I don't want anyone to think that Lisa was a mess at this time! She was only around 23 at this time so enty's reaction to seeing her naked seemed odd for a young man.She must have been insulted!

Trixie said...

It fits. I don't remember him being an asshole, more of a run of the mill jerk. I like the Larry Gatlin guess, too. Was hoping to make it fit for one of the Oaks, but couldn't.

Dwigt said...

Or Joan Jett. Lita Ford was mostly the lead guitarist in The Runaways.

Probably isn't the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. That's a multi-week event, with one concert per night. This sounds like it was one specific festival/festival weekend?

Wahsed up Performer: Paulette Carlson - Highway 101
