Well, well, well, look who managed to stay away from the drugs long enough to bring someone over to the dark side. This A list singer is at an event this weekend and befriended that very tall model who does great things for young tween girls. When word gets back to the A+ list singer of the budding friendship, this should cause some havoc.

I've never been@David. But know people who used to go(like 20+ years ago) when it legit, original, interesting.it was about nonconformity, freedom of expression, cutting edge performance art, music etc....Now it's got all VIP sectioned out,private planes and over privileged drugged out celebutards trying to be edgy in Mad Max costumes and apocalyptic themed Manoli Blahnik boots(sprinkled with athe occasional real artist here or there I imagine) Hope that helps lol!
I went from 1995-2000 when it was regular folks from around the country trying to make/perform/bring art that they made during the year on a normal persons budget. It was a wild mix of desert survival camping and art performance. When the tech money and international rich took over you could not compete with the money and professional works that they commissioned. It's probably still wild and deadly (part of the excitement was that if you did not take care of yourself or other theme camp peeps you could die or have med flight) but rvs and super cash makes it like an artsy trailer park

Lol yeah probably but no food trucks back then. Some stuff that you could only get away with back then: bike thru gun range, Molotov cocktail throwing contest, and igniting a giant block of magnesium at midnight called "midnight sun". Also amazing how many people used to just pack up and leave after a couple days in the dust, storms, heat, and cut off from any services /reception. Some people would just filp out at the strangeness/ harshness of it all. That's why people still are proud/snobby about having been to it because it proves you are a competent bad a $$ .

Only insecure, messed up people attend Burning Man. It's not a thing unless you're some whack job idealist who probably has some personality disorder. Karlie Kloss and Katy Perry attending is the end of that event.
As I have previously said it used to be just ordinary douches that attended burning man. Now that it has been invaded by celeb and rich douches it must surely be on it's last legs and has lost any true authenticity it ever had.

I have an old stoner friend who still attends. Weird guy, but fun. Not even sure how he does it - he's diabetic and has a great, lucrative, substantial career....still takes drug vacations at 64, sleeping naked in a hammock.
What grinds my gears is the desperately creepy Stepford celebs playing dress up getting constant coverage.
There are thousands of people there - can we see anything at all aside from how many costume changes some IG "model" made in the multi-million dollar resort/residences nearby? And who's screwing which celeb offspring in the gifting tent? Everything's become a pose-off.
The fact that it's all about marketing everything from condoms to eTokers to Maybachs now feels scummy and fake to....OK!...........OLD. PEOPLE.
I should probably go chase some fake flower children off my damned lawn or something.

@Kno Having never been there I can only judge from what I've read, but my impression is that early on Burning Man was a more genuine experience, and that it has since been overrun by the "Stepford" celebs. A perfect description, by the way.

Karlie and Katy have a mutual friend in Derek Blasberg. That is the only reason they were near each other. All three were at Burning Man. Karlie was likely paid to attend as she only showed there for about 1.5 days mid week before she bolted.
@ firsty,you just perfectly summed up why the Burning Man isn't the Burning Man anymore...a model getting PAID to grace the event with her appearance is the antithesis of what it's supposed to be & used to be all about!
Karlie could be going through a stage of flexing her power to prove to Swift that she's not fully under her control. Karlie is successful on her own and could survive just fine without being in Swift's bed.
Derek knows everyone apparently, he is friends with swift's ex dianna as well.

I also attended Burning Man a few times when it was still very underground. I have not been since about 2002. The last straw for me was seeing frat boys show up in motorhomes to take advantage of the girls who were using psychedelic drugs. I didn't want to witness a frat boy drunk and rape fest. That was the beginning of the end. The thing is, Burning Man is now a business, and one that makes a lot of money. They need the pay-to-play rich camps in order to afford to put on the event and grow. It's no longer what the founders originally wanted it to be. Once the money got involved it changed it forever. I know people who still attend. By having the "luxury camps" Burning Man is inviting class warfare - like was seen when a luxury camp was attacked this year. The camps for the rich are seen as intruders and counter to the Burning Man ethos by the purists.
This is Karlie's third year in a row going to Burning Man. So not a paid appearance but a tradition to blow off some steam before NYFW. Also this blind is silly. Karlie and Katy have several mutual friends together. Including Dasha who's mega yacht they were both on earlier this year. Im sure they know each other well. The model was only at Burning Man for less than two days. Usually she stays the entire time. What would be more interesting is to know is why both Karlie and Taylor went MIA over the past weekend.
