Ok, Ince died in his yatch, but when did he try to kill Chaplin?

It supposedly occurred at the same time. Rumor has it that Hearst was jealous because he thought Chaplin was having an affair with Marion Davies (Hearst's mistress). After seeing Chaplin and Davies together on his yacht, Hearst flew into a rage and ran to get his gun. When he came back, he shot Ince instead mistaking him for Chaplin. There was a big cover up to hide what actually happened but because of all the witnesses on board, the truth was whispered in certain circles. It is also rumored that Louella Parsons, who was a movie columnist at the time and who was believed to also have witnessed the shooting, was given a lifetime contract with Hearst's newspaper because of her helping to cover up the crime.
