Today's Blind Items - The Girl - A Dancing Boy Story

The close family members - of the same sex, I mean - are sometimes thought of as jerks, but they really shouldn’t be, because at least the story I’m about to share. You see: this one girl I dated in college times did a foreign studies program. And you know what? She didn’t even have to learn a new language.

But when she called me from a payphone from this one city, the one known for its longtime music scene - and yeah, it was to break up with me - I was like: who? What? Initially, because the connection was bad, I thought she must be talking about a member of one of my favorite bands, known for its name derived from two previous ones, and bringing dance beats back to rock n roll.

Nope: this was someone about to become extremely famous in a kind of nationalistic way. Her dad - famous in a New York sense - was very traditional, and of course there’s nothing wrong with that, but he was also kind of clueless (in a way similar to my father - giving powerful people the benefit of the doubt, when they shouldn’t). He called the musician boyfriend a “limey” although he wasn’t, and of course wtf: are people really still biased against the Irish? I imagine it was because he - the band member, I mean - was from a working class background, which is a lot of people from this city.

If she wasn’t going to marry me, dad wanted her to marry this one music exec, who was trying to steal or at least peel the band away from their current contract. But when they wouldn’t agree to his terms, he decided to take it out…on her. They got wind of what was about to take place - a sexual attack in an outlying estate in one of the home counties - and beat the crap out of him, and trashed his mansion, nearly burning it down.

Sadly, her dad still made her leave him. But I’m pretty sure the true meaning of the one song is about her. The one line refers to the college by a different first name…I heard you say.
