The Betty White one was my favorite all night.

And the one with the guys speaking in computer voices was the worst, IMO.

My fav is the Doritos ad with the little boy. He is full of awesome.

I dont know why but my favorite one is the little boy slapping that guy for looking at his mom's ass and taking a dorrito. Awesomeness

Love the Betty White one too though, easily the best one. Hehe, Your playing like Betty White, thats not what your girlfriend says.
god do i love this broad.
* this reminds me of the time Cloris Leachman roasted Bob Saget on comedy central and she got up and said "I'm not here to roast Bob Saget, I'm here to f--k John Stamos" and I almost died laughing.
I love it when old ladies act raunchy for some reason :D

I like the Doritos kid one the best...

One of the (few) disadvantages of being Canadian is that you don't get to see the commercials, even if you watch it on an American channel, so these are the only ones I've seen.

the vw one was cute at the end but all that punching was annoying. plus, i thought you are only supposed to do that for 'punch buggies' aka vw bugs. so this confused my poor brain lol

I thought the Doritos ads were, by far, the stupidest things I had seen in a long time. And the little boy ad was offensive and too sterotypical. Black single mom with oversexed black boyfriend? Really Doritos? That's progress?

I loved the Betty White ad and the Letterman/Leno ad. The others were meh.

mialou-

o.k change it to an asian family, better?

Best one hands down was the Lost parody. Love that one. Made LOL quite loud here at work. Thanks, Ent!

I'm a softie - I loved the google one. I just thought it was brilliant and really cost effective with not one but of dialogue or voice over.

Anything Betty White does is gold.

The little kid commercial didn't seem too original to me because it is so much like the mouthy, protective youngest child of the new wife on Seth MacFarlane's The Cleveland Show.

I LOVED THE BETTY WHITE ONE!! We skipped all the commercials after half because we were tivo-ing and try to catch up after our dinner, so I'll have to go hulu the rest at lunch time!

Looks like I didn't miss much though!

Love the Betty White one! She rocks, anything she does is awesome.
Am I the only one that loved the Etrade baby one? Milkaholic Lindsay......Milka-What?

kind of off topic, but i forgot to mention that two interns on one of the morning shows here in h-town made a superbowl bet, where the loser had to get a tattoo of betty white on their ass. the guy who lost this year also lost last year, so betty will apparently be joining the fonz. lol.

I thought most of the Doritos' one's were pretty funny. And the Betty White one (don't forget Abe Vigoda!) needs to be enshrined in gold.

I liked the VW one with Stevie Wonder at the end *L*

mialou said...

No not really Sue Ellen. Offensive is offensive.

The lost parody was my favorite.
But I've got to agree. Anything Betty White does is gold.

The hubs and I liked the Dorrito kid and the Google Paris love story thing.

The Betty White ad is made of awesome. I missed it last night, but caught up here.

The Letterman ad was a bit shocking, IMHO. But, the end result for me was, "three overpaid douchebags sit on a couch together and why should I care?"

Shoeaddict said...

I loved the Google one, too!! Go Saints!!!! (I'm a huge fan. I live in south Louisiana)

It's still crazy around here!

mooshki said...

ballyhoo., now I want to get a tattoo of Betty White on my ass.

Congrats to all the Saints fans!

People (and by people I mean you, Mialou) are to thin skined!!! That was FUNNY no matter what color they would have been!

My favorite was the etrade. I love those babies, they keep getting better and better!

tina said...

oh and ballyhoo, that was hilarious! I love it that people are so whackadoodle!

Fonz+Betty White on the ass=PURE awesomeness!!!!

I do not understand why everyone LOVES the Google ad. I thought it was the dumbest one...

Actually all of the ads were pretty weak this year...

I did love the Doritos with the little boy, and I didn't find it offensive at all. Jeez you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I don' think the ad would have been as funny if it were white folks in the commercial...
Just sayin...

I loved the Dorito Doggy ad, just as great was the Betty White Snickers ad. I just saw the Paris ad, it's my alternative wished for life :-D

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

@mialou

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I loved the giant sock puppet - that thing cracked me up. Especially when they sewed the tattoo on...

I was at a party and it was hard to hear the commercials, but the Lost commercial and the sock puppet were my favorites. I missed the Oprah one and the Betty White one, but I'll check them out when I get home.

I loved the Dorito dog ad and of course the Clydesdale and Bull ad, that was cute!

Susan said...

My husband and I really got a kick out of the casual Friday ad where all these unattractive peeps had no clothes on. I don't know...I guess that didn't go over well with the masses. LOL. It was for a job search site, but I forget which one.

Overall, I thought the ads were mostly stupid. And, seriously so many of them are totally based on stereotypes of so many varieties. Based on the ads, it seems like all of us dumb Americans are only about beer, cars, beer, girls in bikinis, Doritos and beer.

I don't put too much faith in Super Bowl Sunday.

Monty said...

These were the best? Glad to see I didn't miss much.

Meg said...

I missed the Google one! That was great! Loved all of these plus the Letterman/Oprah/Leno ad. :)

Congrats to all the Saints fans! What a great game!

figgy said...

@Susan, I loved that ad too! I don't know why no one else was mentioning it. And it's not like the people were so unusually unattractive--they were just very much what we (well most of us) and all our office mates would look like in our undies which is what made it SO funny!

Of course, Betty has just become not only a beloved elderly icon, but also super HIP, not a small achievement. God what a sense of humor that woman has! Love her!

figgy said...

Oh @mialou, please, come on. I swear, some people just walk around like the Politically Correct Police looking to be offended at every turn. Sheesh.

mialou said...

I criticized the ad as I saw it and how I experienced it. Some of you -- dan c and figgy -- brought out the more personal guns and critized me personally for my opinion. I didn't critize anyone's opinion, it was merely my take on the ads. This used to be a nice place to post. I've been on board since the beginning -- although not as active of a poster that I could be -- and am dismayed at how personal people make some of these comments. (Sue Ellen, I'm not including you. You asked a reasonable question). Frankly my intelligence was insulted by just about all the ads. I guess I'm an advertisers nightmare since I don't buy into the so-called entertainment value. I was really there for the football.

Dove said...

I agree wholeheartedly with mialou.
Realizing these are supposed to be entertaining, I still found it puzzling that a lot of these Super Bowl ads had actions that connected them to each other . . .
Better to swig beer and bathe in a beer keg than be relieved help is at hand save all but one, that is?
Yeah, right!
I guess the point being made is if you crash get smashed! Beer is a life save - NOT! . . . calling Captain Sully . . .
The punch-slap-hit-punch-hit-punch-choke-tackle-hit, no matter the age and gender ads all seem like smack down ads to me.
These are a 'hit' to some and 'a slap in the face to others'!
Shades of Nick Hogan, Chris Brown, Charlie Sheen, etc.
It's the all in the game of $$$ over thought provoking and innovative entertaining advertising. Peace . . . .

Am I totally lame for allowing the Google ad to make me misty in the eyes?

God, I'm lame.

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

I totally agree about not attacking personal choices and preferences, especially about something as stupid as a commercial. Everyone has different personal experiences that shape their opinion and it's not fair/right to criticize someone for that. Ya jerks! ;)

Anna Geletka said...

I agree with Mialou as well that the Doritos ad was a little offensive. I teach a course on race and ethnicity, and this is how stereotypes are reinforced and perpetuated. It's not just the PC police or people being too sensitive. Stereotypes are destructive and have a lasting impact on how people are treated and the advantages they can have in life.

Sorry for the lecture. It just gets right under my skin when I hear things like that.

If anyone tries to play that VW PunchDub game with me, I'll take them out. I don't want to get hit by random people when a stupid car passes by.

Loved Google & Snickers & Letterman/Leno/Oprah.

HATED the Doritos ad with the little boy. I didn't think it was offensive...just blah.

I believe that everyone has a right to their opinion about anything. And I understand how Super Bowl commercials are so highly anticipated, given how much advertisers spend to get them on. However, if you take those commercials so-o-o seriously, you're bound to be disappointed. That said, no commercial can beat one with an appearance by Betty White.

mazemerizing said...

Or Abe Vigoda.
