Cincinnati Bengals Cheerleader Pleads Not Guilty To Sex With Student
Sarah Jones, who is the Cincinnati Bengals cheerleading captain and also was a school teacher plead not guilty along with her mother who covered up for her daughter. Sarah is accused of having sex with one of her senior students and soliciting him to come have sex with her cell phone which is also a crime.
Jones had previously sued thedirty.com after someone alleged she had sex in her classroom. Turns out the person was right. Sarah resigned as a teacher on November 30th. Her mom is a school principal. They both were released on $15K bond. That seems really low. DUI suspects sometimes have higher bonds.

I remember this. Unfortunately, I was involved in a clothing store line we created that sold clothing that people who read The Dirty liked to wear. Used to read it to gain insight into the inner workings of the douchebag. Anyway, she sued TheDirty 'cause someone posted saying she had STD's and had slept with all the Bengals players. Not that she had slept with students. She sued because it damaged her 'reputation'.

What joymama said is absolutely correct- I live here in Cinci, and she and her family are kind of notorious around the area. Not to mention every few weeks Sarah is back in the news here.
Her brother managed to get his third DUI charge magically dropped, along with a felony assault charge, and it isn't exactly a secret about Sarah having sex with a student- the kicker is, though, that there IS more than just one student. Expect them to come forward shortly.
Sarah is lawyered up with Eric Deters, who is a prominent bulldog of an attorney around here. Deters has a good number of local judges and Prosecutors in his pocket, so chances are Sarah is going to just get probabtion and register as a sex offender.

If I'm not mistaken the guy was 18. I don't see the big deal in this case. Even if the guy was younger it says he was a senior so in all likelihood that means he's 17 at youngest. This isn't a case of a teacher taking advantage of someone who isn't old enough to fully form opinions on the matter. Hell, the guy probably had been having sex for at least a year.
I'm more confused as to how the story was broken. I'm guessing he bragged about it and it got out that way. I'll be honest I was in a similar situation when I was a senior in high school. My Civics teacher retired half way through the year and his replacement was a 23 year old brunette who was very attractive. She was hit on by almost every guy who had her class but for whatever reason I was the only one able to get her into a sexual relationship and I was 17 at the time. Never told anyone while I was still at the high school and have kept it fairly quiet even after.
I mention it because as someone in a similar situation this instance isn't a big deal. Hell if she waited 2 more years she would have been 28 and he would have been 20 and no one would give a shit. It's inappropriate but people come off it and stop thinking that this was some huge scandal. It isn't so get over it.
My ex friend (Note: Ex friend) was a 31 yrs old 5th grade teacher and slept with a 17 yr old senior in highschool. She didn't see anything wrong with it, and I was absolutely disgusted by it.

Baldy, while cases of 17 and 18 year-olds sleeping with men and women in their early 20's aren't a huge deal (in my book, anyway), it is ALWAYS inappropriate for a teacher to be sleeping with a student, regardless of age.

I actually was friends with two sisters growing up whose parents met when their dad was their mom's teacher. She was 18 and he was 28, and she BROUGHT HIM TO THE PROM! I personally always found that weird, but it seems that it was not always looked down upon as much as it is now. I see that it is problematic having one person in a position of authority over the other, but if the student is 18 (or legal consenting age) I think in that sense it's not as big of a deal as we now make it.

I find it just plain wrong for a teacher to have sex with a student even if he/she is of legal age. This girl could not find another suitable candidate other than a student??? (BTW- I find most students annoying, NOT sexy in the least.) Being in a position of authority and engaging in sex is exploitive to whomever is the underling (no pun intended) or client, be it supervisor/boss, teacher, therapist, lawyer, doctor etc.

It isn't the kid's age that's the problem, it's the power differential. That's why therapists aren't allowed to have sex with their patients either. If she didn't get off on the power, she could've just waited until he was out of her class.
Back in the 70s, my big sister had one of her high school teachers ask my mom if he could date my sister. My mom said no, but that was that. It wasn't a big deal back then. In fact, one of my cousins got involved with one of her teachers. Her parents were appalled, but nobody else cared. They tried to get the school board to fire him, and were told that what teachers did on their own time was their business. I find that a refreshing view and wish more of them held that nowdays. It would prevent a lot of overblown scandals.
By the way, the local police also told my cousin's parents that as long as he wasn't making her do anything against her will, they had no cause to interfere in the relationship. After my cousin graduated, they got married.
I went out with guys in their thirties when I was a teenager and my mom didn't care. She knew I had common sense. I did, which meant I had a whale of a good time learning what I wanted to learn, but was careful to keep it fun and not get pregnant.
All of us in the above examples are grownups now and normal. When there's no force or coercion, no sense of pressure, there's no harm. That does NOT mean that adults having sex with teenagers should be allowed or even condoned. I'm just saying you should not conclude that EVERY kid who's had sex with an adult is going to be damaged by the experience. They will if there was force or coercion, yes. But in other cases, it can simply result in reminiscent smirks and maybe even some fond memories.
