Dr. Drew Says Charlie Sheen Will Relapse

Dr. Drew has been heard from again. Does Dr. Drew drink because I would love to see him hanging out at his house and wonder if he ever just sits back and gets hammered or if he makes one beer last all night. Do any of you ever think about that? I also wonder about his kids and if any of them will end up in rehab. Would it make him a bad parent? A bad rehab doctor? Anyway, after Charlie admitted last week that he still drinks alcohol, Dr. Drew went all Nancy Grace on Charlie and says that Charlie is headed for a full blown relapse and that people who are addicted to one substance should never drink booze. See, this is something I wonder about because I have heard from many people that if you are addicted to coke, but that booze is not your trigger for coke that it is ok to still drink. Not true? Dr. Drew says if you are addicted to one then you need to be clean and sober from them all.

Dr. Ms. Cool predicted this last year. Where's my paycheck?

I don't doubt for a minute that Charlie will relapse. Dr. Drew is 100% correct. Don't know if it will be soon, but unfortunately, eventually he will.

I don't think the issue would be whether booze is your trigger for coke or any other addiction, but if you're using booze as substitute for coke then you're headed for major trouble.
Is there anyone who doesn't think Charlie will relapse? I'm pretty sure even Charlie thinks he's going to relapse.

My cat could have told you Charlie Sheen will relapse. Thank you Captain Obvious!

This is assuming that he isn't already using coke again and just cautious about hiding it for now. Addicts lie like it's their job. If CS is willing to admit to drinking, it wouldn't surprise me if it's to hide the fact he's doing other things.

I think it will depend how well Anger Management is received. If it fails he will go into a tailspin. Charlie doesn't lose well.

Regarding Enty's addiction question, I do think you can be a recovered coke addict and still drink. It's generally a terrible idea though if you are still hanging with ANYONE from a coke crowd.

Just my two cents, I know some will disagree with me.

Don't care. Jumped the shark long ago. Charlie Sheen is boring.

I don't think it's like, alcohol triggers a craving for another addition, but it weakens your ability to say no. I've made mistakes after drinking too much and now I know that I need to not drink much especially around people who I know are using (who I wont go near anymore anyways).

He has publicly denounced the 12 step treatment style, so it's not a surprise.

Adding to the obvious observations: Dr. Drew has relapsed on his fame/attention addiction.

If he replaces drug addiction with an alcohol addiction, he is no better off. His addictive personality does not know when to stop I believe. And like someone above said, it would be much harder for him to say no to drugs if he is already drunk.

I totally agree that he will, probably has already a couple of times and we just have heard about it yet!

I've never suffered from an addiction, so I know I can't really "get it," but I just don't understand. An alcoholic can be sober for 20 years and still call themselves an alcoholic, and they will never not be an alcoholic. Someone who has suffered from one addiction has to abstain from any vices because anything can trigger them. I just don't get the recovery mind set.

And also here is my obligatory I hate Dr Drew statement.

If he has an addictive personality, yes he will relapse. People with that issue must seek out more positive things.

Sheen seems to be an equal opportunity substance user. He'll probably take what's around.

@seaward Alcoholics/addicts are always addicts, because that's the disease. Someone that has truly worked on their recovery will always say they are in recovery, and each day sober is part of the process. My mom stopped drinking 23 years ago and still calls herself a recovering alcoholic.

After seeing the video of Charlie coming out of the Guns and Roses concert, I think whether it's coke or booze, Charlie is a goner. He's just going to fade away and spend his days boozing it up until he dies because all he seems to care about is getting a buzz.

umm who ever thought Charlie was sober???

i'm a firm believer in second chances...and i'd like to think charlie will give himself one...or 897. but i just gotta say, like him or not, dr. drew may be right.

I think it depends on the addict and the circumstances of his or her addiction. For some, totally abstaining from any and all intoxicants is the only way to remain sober. Sadly, I think that regardless of how Charlie Sheen approaches his addiction, he will relapse. In his heart I don't think he's ever really had a true desire to quit and that's what every addict must have no matter what their recovery approach is.

Of course he will...

I think Dr. Drew has a LIMELIGHT ADDICTION.

It is not black and white. Say for example the addiction was to sleeping pills, and you manage to kick that, chances are having a drink is not going to make you go find some sleeping pills, or say pain medication that you never took in a drinking situation. If you had a porn addiction, and used to indulge at home by yourself, then probably going out with friends for drinks wouldn't be a problem. If, though, you decided to have a few drinks at home alone, that could lead you to go online and find some porn. And, good chance if your addiction was cocaine, you probably used to go out, have some drinks and do some coke, so yeah drinking would be a huge trigger. I think it's hugely situational and people need to remember that alcohol lowers your inhibitions so if you're drinking in a situation that used to involve your vice, that is a really bad idea. Or obviously if you're drinking to replace your vice you could end up with a whole new addiction.

But as far as Charlie Sheen goes, I don't think he's ever even acknowledged or taken any responsibility for his issues do this is like asking if Lindsay Lohan will go back to partying. The answer is pretty obvious.

Doesn't he have to get sober for a while before he can relapse? When did that happen?

File this under: "Duh."

Dear Dr. Drew

No shit, Sherlock. You need to go into rehab for your diarrhea of the mouth syndrome. You need help to shut the fuck up. I'm more sick of you than I am of Charlie and LiLo put together.

Thank you,
Nolachickee

What I don't get is why all the addicts on Celeb Rehab were allowed to continue to SMOKE! Nicotine is more addictive than anything, and if patients in rehab have to detox from drugs & alcohol, why not cigarettes? It doesn't make any sense!

Alcohol is a drug - period. At least that is how we look at it in Narcotics Anonymous. An addict is an addict and it doesn't matter what it is - we really have to work on this every day. I have 3 years clean as of March 21st. I have been addicted to all kinds of things - food, drugs, alcohol, men, etc. Right now I am having issues with shopping and it is really an addiction. I find myself buying stuff and not even knowing what I bought until I get home.

My friend was addicted to heroin, but has been clean for many years. She drinks alcohol, but is never triggered to use H again.

I think oxygen is Charlie Sheen's trigger to do drugs. As long as he's breathing, he'll do them. :-/

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where someone actually asked "Dr." Drew to weigh in on this subject.

i really wish this druggie woman beater would stay out of public.

I agree with Drew.

Addicts typically exchange one addictive behavior for another - especially exacerbated if they're not following their program. It can be anything; gambling, shopping, drinking, etc.
