Rock Of Ages Trailer

A second Rock Of Ages trailer was released yesterday and as promised it does have Tom Cruise actually singing, albeit only for about 6 seconds of a two minute clip. The whole point of this clip is to show off Alec Baldwin's character. The way he is dressed reminds me of one of his appearances on SNL. The movie looks good, but then again, anything looks good in a trailer.

Oh I'm sure the movie probably is good...I just can't get past the Tom Cruise part. Shallow? Yes.

The movie may well be good, Cruise or not, Justin Theroux is a decent writer. I just think 80's nostalgia is waning, and this will be a bomb.

The trailer does look good. It's too bad most of those stars turn me off from ever wanting to see the movie.

***this^****

I just don't understand the decision making process of moviemakers. So many good stories to tell with good people to act it out, and they continuously recycle the irritating few.

I agree with KellyLynn.

Alec Baldwin may be funny, but I would never watch him in a film like this. The whole movie would be one long SNL skit or credit card commercial to me.

Tom Cruise seriously bugs me and I despise Russell Brand's 'acting'.

I'm sure the Razzies will have new fodder with this joke of a movie.

Julianne Hough sounds like a Chippette.

All of the music sounds so robotic with pitch correctors and effects that I can't stand listening to it. Sometimes, musicals just need to stay on the stage.

The preview does make this movie look good. Huh. I'll probably wait till pay per view or dvd though.

I'm sorry to harsh everyone's high but I think this looks like Glee meets Burlesque. I like almost everyone associated with it but it doesn't seem to add up.

Exactly. I hate Tommy Girl. I hate Russell Brand. Why the fuck would I watch a movie with both of them in it?

what everyone above has said.

The musical was fabulous so I think of the screenplay stays true to that it won't be a total disaster.

I totally want to see this and count me in the minority that likes Tom Cruise in movies.

Brenda L said...

It's okay Ms. Cool...we still think you're pretty cool regardless. ;-)

I think it looks good, too, and I'll probably see it. I enjoyed "Day and Knight" and the last "Mission Impossible" movie.

Maja With a J said...

Well, if it has hair metal AND choreographed dance numbers, it's pretty much guaranteed that I will watch it at some point. And probably enjoy it way too much.

Rose said...

I was always such a big Tom Cruise fan growing up and then he went crazy. I still like him in movies though. It's something I would rent. Sort of an Almost Famous vibe but not as good.

Packed to the seams with music I was already tired of listening 20 years ago.

Just wonderful.

Yeah, trailers always look good - but WTF with the stipper poles?

EmEyeKay said...

I'm excited for this!

Not really a Tommy fan, but that photo of him gives me the chills.

califblondy said...

I'm with Maja, but I loved Burlesque so my opinion doesn't count to most.

I'm a sucker for musicals.

That is the scariest movie trailer I have seen in forever. People are going to pay to see that?

In the distant future, some night I will be burdened with insomnia and out of sheer desperation will turn on the television to try to get sleepy, and this movie will be on, and I might watch a few minutes of it before clicking the remote over to reruns of I Love Lucy. Or not.

These are the songs I listed to while I came of age and became an "adult" I just hope they don't get butchered. Will wait for DVD, because going to the movies now is an event of financial proportions.

Giulia said...

Tom Cruise's presence is the least of this film's problems, in my opinion.

I would watch it, if it wasn't for the insufferable Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin and... Julianne Hough?!?! (Really?...)

Jules_345 said...

I dont know, I think it looks good...although I doubt I will find anyone willing to see it with me in the theater, haha. I only like TC when he is in a role like this...I cant stand him when he takes himself too seriously (which is about 98%a of the time)

CowPie said...

Ugh. I'd rather watch "Sparkle" and be distracted by Whitney Houston's Jessica Lange looking inflated face.

ardleighstreet said...

TommyBoy meets Glee. I wll pass, thanks.

I would love to see this, I am like totally a child of the '80s ;), except for the horrific cast. Julianne Hough (who is she screwing?), Tom Cruise and the abominable CZJ? Blech! I love Paul Giamatti & can handle Alec Baldwin & Russell Brand. But CZJ? No way!

Crystal said...

I totally want to see it. I think it looks like something I'll enjoy, even if it's not for everyone :)

BOMBS AWAY!

Pink_Palace said...

I will definitely be going to see it, because a long-time friend who lives in LA got to spend his summer in Miami teaching Cruise how to play the guitar. My friend has similar taste to Enty, he too loved Malin Ackerman - who I guess is in the movie too?

nolachickee said...

Just looking at the still of Alec and Russell scared the bejesus out of me. I cannot hit the play button.

Tommy Girl's pose also freaked me out. I'll have to be liquored up to watch this movie.

Kraymond19 said...

That movie looks like a turd wrapped in ready-to-explode pyrotechnics.

Would have been better if Tommy Boy had a bald spot beneath his sweaty locks like Glen Danzig. :)

Lauren said...

I do too "/ regrdless of his private life I think hes a good actor.

Laura said...

Looks like a fun campy movie. I'll go see it.

Mary Ann said...

No power on earth would drag me to the theatre to see this horror. I love Alec Baldwin, but my distaste for Tom Cruise is so strong I won't watch anything he's in. I've regretted that decision only once.

Now! said...

I never had strong feelings about Tom Cruise until it became so fashionable to hate him. Now I feel compelled to defend him.

I think this movie looks entertaining. It looks like a fun night out.

L-A-M-E. Never in a million squillion years would I voluntarily watch this steaming pile of crap, and I am apparently one of the very few who actually finds Russell Brand charming in movies (he's actually the only one in the cast I can stomach, including that monkey) AND was in high school while the majority of the featured music was popular.

No doubt I will be forced to see it while flying somewhere someday, and the air marshal will have to handcuff me to my seat to keep me from opening the door and bailing out.

judyg8or said...

First time poster here, although have been enjoying the site for months. This is the only celebrity site where I can read the comments without weeping for humanity.

I was compelled to join in as I am just so curious about the Russell Brand "hate". Is it because he got to play with KP's bewbs?

Honest question to the haters who might be kind enough to respond: Have you actually seen any of Russell's stand-up? Listened to his BBC Radio Show? Read his Books? If you have and still hate, then cheers you are entitled to your opinion.

But if you haven't, and are just on some hate bandwagon, you are missing out. He is brilliantly funny and brutally honest.

Henriette said...

@judyg8or
I do not find Russell Brand "brilliantly funny and brutally honest." I find him to be a self-grandising egomaniac who believes his own publicity. I find him limited in talent and do not care about his marriage to Katy Perry. I do not think he is a big hit on this side of the pond.

Yes, I've seen his attempts at humor.

Henriette said...

I agree about 80s nostalgia fading. It is becoming passé. It's always twenty years out. When I was a teenager in the, gasp, 80s, it was nostalgia for the 60s. In the 90s, it was for the 70s. Now we are going to be looking back on the 90s with rose colored glasses. It's already begun with PBS doing a closer look at the Bill Clinton years. Hollyweird is always late to the party.

kyliegirl1234 said...

I don't love Tom as a person but will always think he is a great actor.

He totally transformed in Tropic Thunder and his character was the funniest part of that movie IMO.

Jaiden_S said...

This looks like so much fun! I think it'll be good.

Popcorn Sutton said...

@Nutty_Flavor- I can't speak for others, but in my case the dislike isn't because it's fashionable. It's more of a I have ears and eyes type of a thing for me. He just rubs me the wrong way.

Anotheramy said...

Somebody must like TC because they keep giving him big roles. I dont get it. There are so many incredibly talented people to play that part, why TC? He must be easy to work with, same with Alec Baldwin. They keep getting work.
The movie looks interesting, the music from my high school days. I might see it. Probably not in the theater.

Ms Cool said...

Aw, thanks Brenda Love!

Casey said...

I love Russell Brand and thought his radio show was brilliantly funny. I also think he looks 100 times happier since he and Katie split up.

But I've thought Tom Cruise was super creepy long before the couch incident, so don't know if I would go and see it or not.

Moosefan said...

Is it wrong that we had to pause it 3 times because we were laughing so hard? If this is a comedy-its a rental. As for TC-Sorry Maverick, the 80's are done. Catherine Zeta Jones? GTFOH.
I agree that this seems like a Glee/Burlesque/Just Dance mishmash.

mooshki said...

"Julianne Hough (who is she screwing?)"

Ryan Seacrest. Friend/co-worker of Nigel Lythgoe, who is the friend/co-worker of Adam Shankman, the director. Well, she's bearding him, not "screwing" him, but same difference. Gotta love the Hollywood system.

Saw Rock of Ages on Broadway, loved it. Can't wait to see the film and neither can my husband.

Amy in MI said...

I agree - This could be my next super guilty pleasure like Coyote Ugly (saw that 10 times in the theater!!!) ...but I can't stand Tommy Girl...

Audrey said...

I don't care about Tom Cruise, but this just does not look like a good movie.

The Bitch Next Door said...

Hate CRUISE & hate SCIENTOLOGY.... so until Tom leaves the church & admits to being gay i will never see any of his films.

Brian said...

That trailer looked so cheesy that I thought this was an elaborate April Fools hoax from Alec Baldwin.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I loved it on Broadway, so I'm sure I'll see it. I think it looks pretty good with the exception of Julianne Hough.
