The Master
The Master is a new movie that looks like it is about the beginnings of Scientology disguised as fictional. The Village Voice runs through all the great similarities between clips in the second trailer and actual Scientology questions for new victims. The movie is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and supposedly he showed it to his very good friend Tom Cruise who had issues with it. I like anything that Tom Cruise had issues with, but I also wonder if his very good friend Paul changed so Tom would be happy. If it was the worst film ever towards Scientology then you would think they would be campaigning hard against it. It does have Amy Adams and Joaquin Phoenix and also Phillip Seymour Hoffman as an L. Ron Hubbard doppelganger.

Jeremy Renner was supposed to star as Joaquin Phoenix's character, but he dropped out after Ghost Protocol.

The other trailer gave me chills. I want to see this but might not - PTA movies can be a serious downer. I don't mind movies that break the "happy ending" mold, but I'd prefer not to want to shoot myself in the head when I'm done watching (not a PTA joint, but Melancholia did such a number on me.)
Em, at least it's not Wes fucking Anderson. Can NOT stand his quirky for the sake of being quirky bullshit. If he and Zooey Deschanel ever make a movie together, that much forced quirkiness would make the world explode.
How is PTA a good friend of Tammy, but NOT a Co$ member? If he is, watch a pirate copy of the movie and don't give them money.
If CO$ is not actively campaigning against it, then it's not worth seeing. Tho' I am intrigued by the concept.
I think this looks good and it's nice to see Joaquin actually acting again.

The Facebook page for the movie just went on line recently. I am waiting for the CO$ folks to begin. Nothing much on it except a few comments but it might be worth getting familiar with.

The Acting looks wonderful. I am glad the actors are finnally good parts.
This movie looks really good and Phillip Seymour Hoffman is beyond amazing as an actor but I just can't see Joaquin without thinking how icky and Lannistery he is.

As an aside, Michael Palin's journal entries from when the Pythons were writing Life of Brian make for fascinating reading. They were painstaking to avoid seeming to spoof Jesus.
