Your Turn

It's time for a new cell phone. I have to reset my phone five or six times a day. I fear everyday that I will wake up and it won't work. So, what kind of phones does everyone have? Does everyone have a smartphone now? I'm wondering if flip phones will make a comeback. Just text and bad photos. They got the job done though. Basically we all have laptops glued to our ears or our hands. The next step is to just implant them in our eyes and ears. Going to suck though if you don't pay your bill on time.

I've had an iPhone from the very day it came out...tech nerd style waited in line with my gay bf's at the time. Can't believe they paid $800 each for our phones...what those dudes wouldn't do for Steve Jobs!

iphone iphone iphone iphone iphone iphone. Great for shooting video, taking pictures, and instantly posting them online or emailing to someone.

The pictures are very high quality, and that means I was able to eliminate my digital camera. 1 device to rule them all!

I have two cell phones - my Canadian one is an android - LG Optimus, and my U.S. one is a Samsung (flip - pay as you go). I got a U.S. phone so I don't have to bother with roaming charges and data plans. It's perfect.

Samsung Glide phone, which I've had for about three years and is pretty much on its deathbed. Everyone is on my case to get an iPhone.

HTC Aria - biggest piece of crap. Counting the days down to then end of my contract.

LG something or other. It's okay except for a tendency to hang up calls when I try to answer them. I'm not into phones all that much, it holds a good charge, eventually connects, and it's only $25 a month for 300 minutes and unlimited text and internet. All I need, really.

So now I'm the proud owner of a brick. I'm planning on staying with an Android, but haven't saved up enough to replace it yet.

I have an iPhone, and it is always by my side like a nervous tic, begging to be paid attention to. I work for a large technology company that just announced a cool new tablet device (how's that for a NE style blind item? LOL), and I'd love to use my company's product. But the apps on the iPhone keep me locked in. I hope that changes.

Samsung Epic. Outperforms iPhone in just about every way. The amoled screen is amazing. You can access files from your home pc, watch movies, play games plus texting & make calls. Call quality is amazing. Plus you have access to Google's open-source market, unlike iPhone. Apple is too proprietary for my tastes. If you truly want a phone that does it all, Epic is your phone. I sound like a salesperson, but my ex sold phones and this is what he had. I did too, until we split and now I have a crappy prepaid one through Walmart. God, how I miss that damn phone.

Blackberry. I need a keyboard-i just can't get the hang of those touch screens. I'm not very tech savy, I swear I learn something else the phone can do every week. I don't wanna go near an iphone either, too complicated for me.

DROID RAZR MAXX. OMG is this phone the BEST. I freakin' love it, love it, love it. The charge lasts for days. The photo and video are superb. It can be it's own wifi hotspot. I could go on and on but I won't - definitely worth checking it out, Enty.

My BF has been an iPhone-since-day-one user, loves it, and he thinks my phone is pretty incredible.

I was really anti-smartphone for quite awhile until last year when I had major pregnancy brain and forgot a couple of Dr's appointments, so my husband went in and got me an iPhone (I'm also a Mac user). I don't know how I lived without it now. Helps me stay sane in situations where my ADD starts to get out of control (i.e., if there's chaos around me, I can focus on something on my phone and I don't freak out).

My husband was anti-iPhone (even though he liked mine) for himself since he used Blackberries for work. His office just switched all the senior managers over to iPhones last month and he LOVES his now. Makes me laugh how anti-smartphone/iPhone we each were.

Like donner, I used to work with computers (albeit in sales) and I'm in no hurry to go back to PC anything (made the switch around 8 years ago).

Even the husband who works for a Microsoft partner (and designs software based on Microsoft's platforms) is starting to prefer Macs (at home at least). It's really interesting to see how everyone in his industry is slowly starting to switch over to iPhone and iPads.

I have an HTC Hero through Credo. I'm not crazy about the phone anymore -- i like the apps and I like Android but the phone itself has an irritating habit of letting my ear double dial someone with the touch screen when I'm already talking.
I'm getting ready to re-up and get a Samsung phone I believe. Whatever the best phone is with a new 2 year contract. Credo is the best -- they're a smaller company that uses Sprint's network who give a sizable chunk of money to progressive causes and nonprofits. I get excellent service with them (even out in the boondocks where I frequently find myself) and their customer service is awesome. I really like knowing my expensive data plan is helping out Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

I have an old Verizon flip phone. I don't have any desire to watch videos, play games, or surf the intertubes with my telephone so that's perfect for me. Actually I resisted even that for many years, telling people my goal was to make it harder for people to find me, not easier. Eventually the wife insisted though. But the only people who have my number are family and a couple real close friends, so it's not too bad.

iPhone, but my contract is set to expire in July so I'm just going to tough it out until September/October when the new iPhone 5 comes out (at least that's what the tech rumor mill says it's set to appear).

I'll probably snatch one up at full price and just go with one of the regional carriers, I love my iPhone but the monthly bill is hell.

The Motorola Atrix is the phone my husband has. It's the biggest piece of garbage out there, which is why it has been discontinued. Too many problems for them to fix so they just axed it.

iPhone is great. You can do anything and everything on it. If you like apps, it has more apps than Android, Blackberry or Windows. It's also the most "user friendly" phone out there. My 59 year old mother, who is very computer/technology illiterate, got her first iPhone and hasn't needed to ask a single thing about how to use it. It's a miracle! ;)

Today I advise you to buy an iPhone.

I don't have a land line. I have a pay as you go cheap, tiny cell phone and it serves all my phone needs. These are very few. I don't like phones.

Seriously, I had a brief fight with a realtor a few months ago. He claimed that he had returned an important call. I said, BS. I can see all my missed and received calls, and I haven't had a call from anyone for two weeks. There was a painful pause. I added, "at this number," a bit lamely.

That's how I roll. I don't need data plans or monthly bills. I don't get why everyone needs a camera on them every second of the day.

It's really been only about 4 years since the iPhone reached critical mass. 4 years is not a great deal of time, but it has totally changed a lot of people's habits.

First, it seems half the population feels the need to take naked photos of themselves that mostly reveal that their bathrooms are small and grungy.

Second, I think it is weird that it is now completely commonplace to see a (professional) photo of a red carpet scene from behind the fans. These people have probably waited hours and hours to see a celebrity up close and personal, and what do they do? They put their iPhone between them and the star so they can take an inferior photo that shows they were there.

Perhaps they think it looks cool on their FB page. Beats me. I've never used FB either.

I know, I know. I sound like I'm 90.

libby said...

I have to chime in for the minority, and reveal that I only have a regular phone. I don't need games, I rarely talk OR text, and I'm cheap.

I'm thinking of looking into those (dumb commercials) 'consumer cellular' or 'jitterbug' phones for old people, though I'm only 40! ha!

I guess since I'm single, cheap, childless, and a homebody, I just don't have need for internet everywhere I go.

I do not have a smartphone nor should I have unbridled access to the Internet and such. It's an ADD thing. I have a Pantech Jest 2 for Verizon. It's a slider, not a flip phone. It looks sort of like a Blackberry. It does everything I need it to do, like make phone calls (with excellent sound quality), texting, takes pictures and video, and has Internet and email access. No data plan. I have 400 minutes a month to use as I wish, be it voice or data. I mostly use my phone for talking to people with my voice in real time or updating my Facebook status, so this works for me.

I have a basic dumb phone, and I'm actually too dumb to use it properly. I don't like it, not because of that, but because I don't like phones. I miss calls, and then forget how to answer it, so I end up hanging up on people. I hate texting - and sadly, I'm really not that old, and am quite proficient with devices, but like I said, I hate phones.

I'm on the family plan, and the kids are paying for it, so I don't have an excuse to get an iPhone or something that might be more fun.

soul-crushingly powerful!

Love the Android platform, so many choices and so many different things to do with the device. I didn't even have to root it. Can load all my movies and music directly in to it without some garbage proprietary software and I can expand my memory with a micro-SD card.

I get why people don't like smart-phones, I wasn't a fan until I purchased my Evo, but it's just one of those things that once you have it, you won't know how you lived without it. I haven't turned on my laptop in over a year. Just use my desktop at work and then phone for everything else :)

But that sign, and yours, pretty much sums up my attitude about socializing in general. Not a huge fan, especially by surprise.

First mobile phone I loved was the original Motorola RazR. Gee, did I feel oh so cool with that phone. Replaced it with an iPhone when it gave up the ghost. Love, love, love the iPhone. Have no issue with call quality. I refer to it as my mobile entertainment device; however, am beginning to use it more and more for work. Love that it can now be my hotspot as well. My iPad no longer needs to be 3G. Looking forward to the next gen debut in the fallish timeframe.

When Sprint finally got the iPhone, I was first in line (I live in a small town). I have to say this is the most satisfying experience I've ever had with a smartphone. The hardware is solid and the user interface is great. I think people happy w Android are mostly either tecchie types or haven't ever had an iPhone. ;)
