National Enquirer Blind Item

WHICH married aging male heartthrob – he’s known for his charitable works and environmental activism – is now worried that a tell-all book about his secret extramarital affair will soon be published? The squeaky-clean, still-handsome 70-something star had written the woman off as a nonissue long ago, but it turns out she’s she’s the one who’s been writing!

My first thought was Warren Beatty, but Redford's interest are definitely more environmental.

Another vote for Redford.

This would be the most publicity Redford has gotten in a long time. But does anyone really care if he cheated on his wife?

If I was Redford, I'd be more concerned with the collapse of his film reputation over the past 30 years. Does anyone under 40 even know who he is?

Gina said...

Speaking of Redford... anyone see Moneyball and notice how much Brad Pitt looked like a young Redford?

DewieTheBear said...

I'm going with Robert Redford at 76 (vs. Harrison Ford at 70), stays very low key (so "tell-all" stuff would be newsworthy), huge environmental activist.

It takes some soft lighting but he does still have it.

DewieTheBear said...

@Gina, if you think they look alike there, rent A River Runs Through It. Brad Pitt *is* young Robert Redford in that. It's startling.

Now! said...

@Dewie. It takes a blindfold. He's had awful plastic surgery .

ms snarky said...

My first thought was Redford.

@Gina, I've always thought Brad Pitt looks like Redford. Take another look at A River Runs Through It. Brad could be his son.

Jessi said...

Oh Hubble, say it isn't so! I am under 40 and adore that man!!!!

KendraWM said...

I was thinking Redford, but I think I am going back to Martin or someone who has been married to the same person for ever.

Redford is on his second marriage after divorcing his first wife in the 80s, will anyone really care that he cheated on a women he hasn't been married to in 30 years?

Sheen has been married to the same women since '61 and is a devout catholic, an affair in his past could present problems...

N9NA said...

Um yes. People still know who he is. He started the Sundance film festival.

N9NA said...

Which reinforces his film reputation

Alita said...

Agreement with the Harrison - Redford doppelgang-gang! I noticed in Oceans 13, though.

Now! said...

Um, yeah, I know. I'm talking about his acting reputation. Which of his films, apart from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, are still considered classics? The Sting? Maybe. The Way We Were? Very maybe. Paul Newman's library is aging much better, as did Newman himself.

Stephy said...

There hasn't been anyone much more handsome than Redford in his prime, but he really didn't age well. An outdoorsy (almost) ginger living in Utah, he didn't stand a chance.

I'm not sure about him for this BI. It's debatable as to whether he still has it and, also, he's divorced, so I don't think it would surprise anyone to learn about an affair.

And as @Nutty_Flavor said, as an actor/director, he's not that newsworthy.

Some of the other stuff fits well, but I don't know. It just doesn't seem juicy enough.

DewieTheBear said...

@Nutty, I hate myself for laughing so hard at that blindfold remark LOL

He still looked okay in Spy Game - thanks to some very creative cinematography. I think his best late-career film (for looks only *smile*) was The Horse Whisperer.

KendraWM said...

Nutty, the Great Gatsby I think is definitely considered a classic.

Completely agree on the not aging well...

DewieTheBear said...

@Stephy, Redford's only Oscar is for directing, not acting.

I'd rather see a tell-all written by Redford's toupee.

Could be a prob if Redford & his family have/had Mormon connections. Wasn't Mormonism somehow involved back in the day? He looked Grandpa-sexy in "Indecent Proposal"- pass the Werther's candies- yowza!!!

I'm under 40 and I love Robert Redford. All the Presidents Men and The Sting are my favorite of his. I even watched that god awful movie with JLo and Morgan Freeman.

libby said...

Guys, it WOULD be juicy if the writer were someone famous.

Has Jane Fonda ever admitted whether they got it on? I can't find a reference through google. The books she's written so far, maybe he thought he was safe because she has been thusfar discreet?

Aly said...

First wife is a Mormon. There was also a slightly-publicized mess during the filming of the Milagro Beanfield War. Sonia Braga that time or she was his sidepiece at some other time.

MISCH said...

Why would Redford care he was divorced forever and finally re-married a few years ago.

CanuckNan said...

Husband #2 was Mormon. Yes, I am on Husband #3 (I'm a loser!) At the risk of insulting other fine Mormon people, it was a traumatic situation! Left a very bad taste in my mouth. We could probably share some interesting stories!

Robert Redford for the win!

FlakyB said...

Paul McCartney!!!

@Rejected, I agree that All The President's Men should be considered a classic.

Redford was indeed gorgeous in the 1970s. But you know who else was? Ryan O'Neal. Just saw him in What's Up Doc (1973) recently and he was lovely. And we all know how Ryan O 'Neal turned out.

Richard Gere? Is he even married?

Paul Newman.

That is a beautiful movie. One of my all time favorites!

I LOVE me some Redford! He's HOT, at any age, really. Putting him up against Woody Harrelson in Indecent Proposal, or whatever it was, was a no brainer for me! YUM to Redford. Don't even care if he's this blind, I'm just glad I had the opportunity to think about him today!

Ms Cool said...

Barefoot in the Park was great, too.

Audrey said...

Robert Redford is definitely hot. I remember my mother thought so too. When I was around 9-ish, my Catholic, goody-two shoes mother said "I would let him park his slippers under my bed anytime". I was shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you!

ms snarky said...

@Ms Cool - I love that movie too. Jane Fonda was pretty cool in her day, and Robert Redford was hot, and that great old school Broadway supporting cast. Fabulous!

AKM said...

At first, I thought Sir Paul wasn't a bad guess -- it just says "heartthrob," after all, and not "actor" -- but I don't know that his legendary love of weed, as well as all that LSD and other things during the Beatles years, makes him "squeaky-clean." Although finding out that he'd had an affair whilst married to Linda would be a shocker and a heartbreaker! I don't know how it would really be possible, though; they both claimed that from the moment they met, they only spent six days/nights apart from each other, and that was only during his jail time in Japan.

Martin Sheen might fit, but I think he does more for workers' rights and amnesty than for the environment, IIRC. Plus he is a recovering alcoholic, so he's not always been "squeaky-clean."

I think with the environmental activism and squeaky-cleanness, it has to be Redford. I've not heard of any scandals or vices attached to him.

AKM said...

Oh, and Paul Newman is dead. I doubt he's worried about much right now. :-P

Alan Alda?

Agent**It said...

Audrey!!!!!

My Mom would say:

"He can park his boots under my bed anytime".

That is so funny. Almost forgotten that memory, thanks !

Momster said...

Redford was also in "The Way we Were", with Babs, sigh. . .

and "Out of Africa" with Meryl. . .

and who can forget "The Electric Horseman" lol.

Unknown said...

I definitely thought Redford right away. and yes I agree, BP looks like he could be RR's son! I've said that for a long time.

Frank The Tank said...

>>and who can forget "The Electric Horseman" lol.

The Willie Nelson character: "I'm gonna get me a bottle of tequila and find me one of them Keno girls that can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch and just kinda kick back."

Eeekalicious said...

Please don't let it be Alan Alda

Unknown said...

@TuxCat, Me too! Loved MASH, still watch reruns, Oh Hawkeye!

nunaurbiz said...

Alan Alda is a prick. Sorry to knock your illusions. But I dont' think he was EVER considered "heartthrob"

Selock said...

Absolutely on of my favorites. He was such a dish!!

I'm another under40 Redford fan, for the record.

^^Someone else knows What's up Doc!!!!

This was a classic in my childhood house!
My favorite: Uh, how much is it without the aspirin?
Mom's favorite: worker letting cigar drop out of his mouth (because it told you what was going on without showing it or being raunchy)
Dad's favorite: Trying not to break the glass
Sister's favorite: Hi, Daddy.

good times...

Ugh.
Brad Pitt wishes he could even hold a candle to a younger Robert Redford. You would never have seen Redford pock-marked and puckering his lips in a film.
