Kai The Hitchhiker Arrested For Murder

Earlier this year, Kai the hitchhiker made a name for himself after he saved the life of a utility employee by wielding the hatchet he carries with him as he moves around the country. Yesterday he was arrested and charged with the murder of a lawyer in New Jersey who police say was beaten to death. Kai says that he was drugged and sexually assaulted by the man who he met in Times Square over the weekend.

The kid claims he was drugged & raped. If so, it seems he's lived so long on the street that this kind of 'justice' is the only way. Too bad.

It will be interesting IF he really was raped, or if Kai just likes killing people since he had to that one time.

Regardless, Kai is poor and he fled, so he'll get Life at least. It's probably too late to prove rape.

Maybe Kai likes to kill his tricks, so no one can tell he's gay? Maybe that is why he is dead to his family in WV?

Anyway, they caught him at a bus station in Philly.

What's really weird is how many stories like this I read about in the newspaper. Maybe last year a wealthy banker was killed in his mansion by some transient he picked up. The transient told the same story as Kai. I can't believe gay men are picking up that many guys who are not at least someone into it. It always sounds like some business deal gone bad.

No doubt some good things came his way from that event and probably wore away that street sense that kept him alive on the streets. Too bad this happened. He seemed like a nice guy.

I don't know. Guy seemed very off to me in the original story to begin with, in the way he described attacking the other man. I can't find the word for it, but I didn't find his demeanor charming. His near-glee was unsettling.

I'm just old enough to remember the killing of society florist Kenneth Love, who had his head bashed in and was emasculated with a stone pineapple by a guy he had brought home for the night. Something about this reminds me of that case...

Agree, Dewie. I thought he was funny and kooky at first. Then he started talking proudly about how many times he hit that man over the head with his hatchet and it gave me the willies.

I agree with you all that it sounds like a trick gone wrong. Perhaps his family didn't' accept his sexuality, and maybe also he was a little unstable. He did seem nice and a decent person. We all know how Johns treat their Tricks though, I wouldn't be surprised if some guy did drug him, or if Kai's so unstable they did something concensual and then he freaked out at something the guy said or did. Either way, it doesn't speak to a stable mental state being homeless and travelling the country.

I'll have to re-watch the original video, but he did make a few cryptic comments about estrangement from family and how everyone is beautiful or something like that (IIRC). At the time I thought it was just, you know, stoner poetry, but looking back...hmmmm.....

They met in Times Square, and the john brought the trick back to his house. On his facebook page, Kai - before being arrested - mentioned something about a metallic taste in his mouth when he woke up and figured out he was raped. Oh, and his friends have already set up a legal defense fund. Because that's not sketchy AT ALL.

I can believe it. There are tons of men trolling craigslist for gay sex, not that there's anything wrong with it but anonymous sex is incredibly risky. Oh well

I really liked Kai, but as we're beginning to learn, trying to make an internet meme for the entertainment of the masses out of poor, homeless and/or mentally disturbed persons, with violent pasts bodes ill. I'm pretty ashamed to have bought into it for as long as I did.

He could have gone to the police but the man was a LAWYER. All he would have to say is "it was consensual. Prove it wasn't." And maybe he said as much to Kai when confronted and that's why he decided to inflict his own justice.

Either way it looks like he'll have a roof over his head, food in his belly and medical care for the rest of his life. So...
