Today's Blind Items - Out Of Control
During the height of news coverage on the opiate crisis, the Vancouver Island production set of a streaming service show was rife with hard drug use. The project attracted a large pool of Vancouver local crew with promise of huge budgets, expectations of being the next TV event (i.e. "the next Game of Thrones"), and opportunity for individual and departmental technical/artistic recognition (huge budgets for sets, costumes, makeup, etc).
The remote location also facilitated rampant (untested) hard drug use. At least two department heads were supplying cocaine to the set. Three separate crew members asked about recourse when they were fired for NOT partaking with their department head.
Crew members were advised still on the show to acquire naloxone kits, and it's a good thing those kits were present. Early during what was to be a long shooting day the director who has been in this space before pertaining his sexual assaults went MIA. The director was gone for hours and the first assistant director took over before the director was found in the bathroom unconscious from an overdose.
No news regarding this has been published, and conversations with local union reps made it clear no action would be taken.

Altered Carbon - most expensive Netflix series ever.
Lots of people talked up "Altered Carbon" as being the next "Game of Thrones" - and there have been some GOT Easter Eggs tucked in AC episodes.
This is the Apple series "See".
If it’s See then it would be Francis Lawrence for the director. He directed Hunger Games.

I'm with MD on this. They shot a lot of it up around Campbell River, BC on Van Is. Stunning scenery, and remote. There's a strip club there, and for a crew roadshow spot, it gets messy. They probably had PA's running the drugs up to them, and in BC, it can be tainted with fentenyl, hence the naloxone kits (which all studios and craftys carry now). That a director OD'd is not surprising- out of towner buys drugs off a stranger. I feel for the cast and crew that had to put up with this, and probably put their life on the line at times while on set. And it's daunting to imagine an accident on a set for what's a wilderness/mountain job. Sat phones, no cell coverage, hospitals far away, so possible SAR rescue.

It's not the back of beyond
Nobody needs to "run drugs from Vancouver" when most of the union reps/ truckers are cycling enthusiasts. There isn't a single town of any size in BC that hasn't been over-run with meth, coke, oxy and fentanyl.
Altered Carbon was good the first season, despite some lame writing. Then they lost Joel Kinnaman. Now I couldn't stay interested enough to watch the whole second season.
