blood cancer disease? as in leukemia? why not just say leukemia? guess my turkey coma is still going strong.
I wish they would have said Leukemia. And as close to my heart as this cause is to me, and as much as I love Parks & Rec, this falls very flat.
My understanding is there are several types of blood cancers, one of which is leukemia, so this covers them all.
These dudes are my favorites on Parks and Rec.
My understanding is that Leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells. My father in law has a myeloproliferative disorder, too many red cells, which doctors monitor for cancer indices. So, yes, there are different types of blood cancers.
The lymphomas (Hodgkins and Non Hodgkins) are blood cancers and so is multiple myeloma. There are lots of different types, that's probably why they didn't just say leukemia. It's near and dear to my heart as I've mentioned being an NHL survivor so I'm happy that they used an umbrella term.
ok then,that makes more sense. Leukemia is very close to my heart too, my 12 yr old daughter (and only child) is in month 19 of her treatment for ALL, 9 1/2 months to go!

There is a genuinely effective treatment (even a cure) for all of these b cell cancers, even those which are based in tumors and not in nodes-blood-bone marrow.
I have had an incurable lymphoma for ten years which became dangerously untreatable.
Just over a year ago I became part of a clinical trial called (for now) PCI-32765. While it is not hyped, it has proven itself in every case of b cell cancers, including NHL, multiple myeloma, mantle cell lymphoma, Waldenstraum's Syndrome and CLL.
It is a BTK inhibitor with minor to negligible side effects. A patient takes 3 to 6 capsules once daily. And while the side effects are standard for any prescription med (very minor GI tract issues if any), the after effects of most treatments (like tumor lysis syndrome which can damage, even destroy, muscles including the heart) are NIL.
It has been embraced by the National Cancer Institute. The trials now include all b cell blood based cancers and all of these become both killed and (this is even more essential) contained and controlled consistently.
My hemoglobin level (which was down to 4 a year ago) is now restored to the normal male adult level. And my platelets (those were down to 2K or less) are now between 40K and 70K.
While lots of damage ensued from both the direct effects of my CLL and the excessive levels of CLL and other treatments I had received, I am no longer an active cancer patient.
That would be "chemo and other treatments I had received"... which shows one of the enduring effects of those well-intended messes.
