The McDonald's Worker Didn't Win The Lottery
Apparently the McDonald's worker who thought she had won the lottery didn't win the lottery. She probably looked at four or five of the numbers wrong. It happens. The thing is she probably made all her co-workers angry at her so she is going to have to work the drive-thru window for awhile. Nothing spells punishment like exhaust fumes for 8 straight hours.
The winners of the Mega Millions from Maryland are actually a three people who work in the school system. Some teachers and an administrator. The three of them bought $60 worth of tickets. After taxes the three will each take home about $35M. The three are staying anonymous but when their neighbors suddenly see them move out or driving a Porsche around the neighborhood, I think they will figure it out. The three also plan to keep working which will last just as long as the end of this school year. I bet they don't go back next fall.

My parents and I were just talking about this on Sunday - if you won the lottery would you keep working in some capacity?
I was really hoping to win that...I was only off by 5 numbers. I, however, didn't go to the press and declare myself a winner. I bet her workplace is a joy to be in right now. She will end up quitting because she was being treated badly and figure out a way to sue McD's.
Also, the fact that these winners chose to remain anonymous makes me think that there's a better chance that they plan to continue working, which would make this even more awesome.
Coming forward when you've won anything like this seems to be a bad move. Good for the educators!

Im so glad that teachers won this... Its no secret they arn't rolling in the dough... Also its just the cherry on top that they want to keep working, I really hope they do.
I know of a teacher who won over 20 million she remained anon until all of their finances were in order and did continue to teach for many years. There were many anon donations to the school that everyone figured was her. I have tremendous respect for her and her family for the way they handled everything.

I just don't get people who win that kind of money and continue to work for someone else. I would immediately be all, "so long, sucka!" to my boss. I mean, I can see still wanting to keep busy and contribute, but why not let those jobs go to other people who really need them and start a nonprofit tutoring/mentoring program?
Apparently these people were smart and did exactly what everyone should do. They waited several days to claim it, and came to the state lottery offices with a lawyer and a financial manager. They had already discussed everything with them and knew exactly what to do. Something tells me these people aren't going to spend it all on hookers and blow.
I think it's really smart to stay anonymous.

If I won and couldn't stay anonymous (some states don't allow it) then I would claim it and immediately go on a year long vacation - or at least until the next big jackpot drew everyone's attention away from me.
Why did that crazy woman do that? Because some people are just attention whores. And they'll lie, even when they know they'll get caught, as long as they get the attention. I read that some of her coworkers said she was always trying to get attention for herself before all this happened. I do think this particular "look at me" moment really got out of her control.

My whole thing was bitch, you go from working fast food to pocketing $7 million once you share the winning with the others. That's not enough??? Yes, I need to get over it now.
I'm with Texshan. I'd quit my job so fast - especially right now when work is driving me crazy :) Kudos though to these educators for staying anonymous and wanting to continue to work. Good to not letting the instant money go to their heads. They have the smarts!
Well the thing is most teachers go into it because they love the work, not so much for the money. So I think at least one might still continue - maybe not the administrator. One of the teachers is a special ed, and said she's there for the kids, and wants to continue.
It sounds like a great group to win, and very smart too. Way to go!
@Texshan - Your comment about quitting your job reminded me of "30 Rock" the other night when Jenna thought she got that call from Christopher Nolan to be in his next movie and she shouted "Go to Hell! The Hell with you all!" to everyone. It would be awesome to quit a job you hated that way.
I don't know how many people have been following this but since I work in Maryland this has been on the news constantly. That being sad I'm just going to list some of the crazy ass shit this lady did and "winning" wasn't the craziest. I'll go as chronologically as I recall the various stories.
-Claimed she won the lottery.
-Called her COWORKERS to tell them that she won.
-Claimed it was a ticket she bought on her own and not part of the group tickets.
-Told reporters that she didn't have the ticket, "But some of the numbers LOOKED familar".
-Claimed she couldn't find the ticket because she hid it.
-Held a press conference where her own lawyer stated he had not seen the winning ticket and could not say she was in fact the winner. He told reporters that because she was 45 MINUTES LATE to her OWN press conference.
-Claimed she hid the ticket IN THE MCDONALDS SHE WORKED AT!
-Claimed she had lost the ticket altogether and that she couldn't find it at the McD's.
I'm not sure if she thought she had inf act won and then got embarrassed and didn't want to admit it because of the attention, if she just wanted attention, or if she just hates the people and store she works at. Whatever the reason she held on for so long I think she needs to seriously seek out a shrink.
good that greedy low class liar didnt deserve to win! i mean, im wondering however, if i claimed i won, would i be in the news too? i mean, how did she get so much attention in the first place anyways!??? did she call the local papers saying she won and it ran from there? doesnt anyone check for validation?
oh yes, my dad was a teacher now he is retired! and also, i had a science teacher from elementary school who actually won the lotto too! mr. mohlman!

I always find it encouraging when you hear of Lottery winners who choose to remain anonymous. For one thing, it shows that they're less likely to be the kind of person who's going to lord their wealth over everyone around them, for another, it makes me think that they've stopped to give the implications some thought, which is so important. Fair enough, people buy a Lottery ticket in the hope of winning millions but most never actually dream for a moment that their numbers will come up.
I know that if my numbers ever came up, I wouldn't be cracking open the champagne and asking which way to Ibiza, I'd be shutting myself in a very dark room and staying there 'til I'd stopped panicking and had come up with some fool-proof way of making sure that no-one ever found out. Sadly, a Lottery win is probably going to attract the kind of attention you'd really prefer to avoid.
