Prince William Finishes Military Service - Focusing On Princely Duites

There is one less search and rescue helicopter pilot on the Royal Air Force after Prince William decided to call it quits. Instead of being in the military Prince William plans on focusing more on being a Prince. I can understand him wanting to be at home more with Kate but I think the guy is going to get bored just sitting around being a Prince. He plans on taking the next year off to do nothing but be with his wife and son. He's calling a transitional year. He seemed to love his job and even though at some point he was going to resign his commission I thought he would stick it out a little longer.

Yesterday he completed his final mission and now he's a guy with a whole lot of extra time on his hands. He served for almost eight years and I think it's great that he did what he did when he didn't have to and could have always focused on being a Prince.

Duites?

I highly doubt he's going to be "sitting around". I'm sure he'll savor this year at home...good for him and his family!

He'll follow in Charles' footsteps, with philanthropic/advocacy of some sort. Charles' good works never got the attention or respect of Princess Professional Hysteric's antics.

@V - thought is was a bacon hangover typo. :)

A bangers and mash hangover typo :)

"....a whole lot more time on his hands." A perspective of someone who obviously has not had children.

I don't know why I just thought of this, but didn't Harrison Ford used to fly around rescuing people?

I think it is a good sign that he is going to be around with the kid, that shows that he actually cares about his family.

Translation: I have now stopped even bothering to pretend to fly helicopters. I now plan to spend a year doing nothing, alongside my equally idle, vacuous wife while the public pay for our upkeep.

William and his brother set an important example for the youth of their country by volunteering for the armed forces. Meanwhile in the USA, the Bush twins had "other priorities," and it will be a cold day in Hawaii before you ever see the Obama girls in uniform. William has done his bit; he can just be a dad for a while. :-)

@Rosemary Young: Didn't the "Bush twins" attend and graduate from college? Didn't one become a teacher and the other work for a global health non-profit? What do you mean "other priorities"? I believe the British Royal family has a tradition of joining the military, but I don't think Princess Anne did. What were her priorities, I wonder.

I personally don't like that my taxes pay for these people to visit my country (Canada) still. I really don't have a problem with them other than that. At least they don't seem like dicks. You can't help what or where you're born into.

But, yes, let's congratulate someone for holding down a job. My mother was a single mother who used to support us for $10 per hour. It's a tad ridiculous to congratulate someone who is independently wealthy and actually doesn't need the money. (rolling eyes) I suspect even he'd say that.

@Emily,

That would be the last thing I would worry about my taxes paying lol.

Aside from insane wars or Dick Cheney's salary the little things like $2 million on a museum of neon signs or$25 Billion to vacant and unused buildings. The US Government is much better as throwing money away.

I agree with everything you said, Baskingshark. Prince William is officially on the dole.

One of them went to Yale & was a huge partier & was known to be a stuck up bitch except to those who were willing to fawn over her. Mean girls style. I worked with a girl who graduated from Yale with her, her roommate was friendly with Bush & she hung out with her on occasion. She was a small town girl from Minnesota, nicest girl I've ever met & the only time I ever heard her say something remotely unkind was her description of Bush. Even then she seemed to struggle with wanting to say something nice but just not finding anything.
