Blind Item #2

This weekly trade is doing their best to cover up for one of the largest talent agencies, especially people from that agency accused of #TimesUp behavior. Anyone who attempts to talk about certain people at the agency are immediately shut down by the trade.

It's not Variety or THR because it says weekly.

Probably is CAA being covered up, though.

Variety is completely online now, and the last print version was daily. So I'm not sure they can be considered a "weekly trade". Who else we got? What pub did Himmmm comment about in the Ortega blind yesterday?

Oh, and CAA without a doubt.

its CAA and variety (Penske Media) Jay Penske is friends with Richard Lovett. Though all the weekly trades cover for them.

I don't know whether this is Variety or THR, but Variety is most certainly NOT "online only" now. It's a weekly publication. The daily edition was killed some time back, I believe.

Somebody needs to launch a REAL trade magazine that reports REAL news. Not sure how it would survive with no advertising, though.

I'm just waiting for the day they kill comments at Variety and THR. You get some juicy stuff there (and a lot of garbage, too).

Before Deadline was sold to Penske it was a great source. Nikki Finke used to print the actual truth about things going on in Hollywood. Her profile of a CAA agent who committed suicide a while back, Jay Maloney, is so worth a read. It really shows you the history of the agency and how the corruption and harassment got embedded into the culture. Nikki I'm afraid was a bit ahead of her time with her exposes. The Jay Maloney piece would have been almost as explosive as the Weinstein one if it would have picked up traction back then. Anyway long way of saying CAA has such twisted and messed up ethics. History of the company is sad and interesting.

You're very welcome. And yes - I'm sure it would have been very different in today's standards. But think if someone were to have nipped this problem in the 90s how many lives would have never been destroyed? Clearly the man couldn't take all the lying and corrupt things he had to do to rise to the top. Agencies are not about talent as we can see...

@SignNameBelow - right!! She really is the original Ronan Farrow but wasn't given a fair shake. I don't believe the public was ready for her. Too many people coming against her and willing to cover crimes. All the top agencies have these same running issues towards women and as long as Penske Media (Variety, Deadline) and THR are willing to cover it will continue to happen. Why would these companies want to take down partner agents and in some cases CEO's what does that mean for the future when they control the entire marketplace and package all the products? They need to protect money...when one agent falls several other dominoes are likely to go after, could start an uncontrollable ripple effect.

Since the trades are so dependent on advertising from the media companies & agencies this sort of makes (perverse) sense. Can't offend the advertisers too blatantly with your coverage.

Isn’t Nikki Finke's 10 year gag order almost over? I know she tried to do something a while back but it never came about. I’m going to go with Variety and CAA on this but it could be any and all the trades and agencies.
