Don't count your chickens till they've hatched, girls. I met my husband at his pre-wedding cocktail party. He got married alright, just not to the bride-to-be. Got married five days after we met. She was not amused. Fate with a capital F.

Karma DID come around 14 months later when he was killed in a car crash. His 'fiance' sat next to me at the funeral and held my hand. The cathedral was packed. I played Buffy St. Marie's 'Until It's Time For You To Go' and even the men cried. Gemma did tell me she knew he was the happiest he had ever been during those 14 months and thanked me for making him so happy. In 1976, after being told the story by a mutual friend, a film director from Austria approached me to let him do a movie about it with Jane Fonda playing me and Robert Redford playing Stephen. Turned him down. Now I wish I had let him do it.
