Blind Item #7 Trick Or Treat - An INSIDERHER Blind Item

You might think that if you lived in a neighborhood packed with celebrities, you’d have some pretty terrific Halloweens, right? That celebs surely celebrate Halloween big time, have phenomenal decorations, and personally welcome neighborhood children to their front fences-if not doors.

I had such fantasies.

Some years back, I lived in an area with celebrities in every other house.

In Trick or Treat distance from my house lived some of the most famous people on earth. I could not wait to see what these surely down to earth people did for Halloween. I had a walking route planned for this first outing that passed the houses of some cool people. My kids were psyched!

We started in the flats:

Permanent A list beloved actor & B list actor/producer wife -they turned off all their lights, period. Not even a pumpkin. Did they really live there?
Famous comic actor & acting family -a couple of gourds outside. Lights out
Foreign born comedian with one routine? Welcome! Trick or Treat!
Famous Permanently lovable A list couple & their brood - No signs of life
Former A+ list comedy icon. Disgraced. Brick house with mile high gates. Always dark.
Permanent A+ List Director & wife former Actress -Intercom. If you yell ‘Trick or Treat’ into it, you get silence. ***Now, down the hill, on to a private road.*******
Permanent A list at least triple threat & then wife, Permanent A list for name value/status. A convoy appears in the distance. This trick or treating is looking dangerous. We’re stopped by beefy armed guards who come out from nowhere. Were told we cannot trick or treat here. It was like a military installment in there. Somewhere I have pix...
This kind of total shutdown is just the way it is in Hollywoodtown...and it’s now most popular star clusters. Like this, my friendly hometown! For a tip, Dino Martin & Dorothy Hamill had a House right at the center point of all these other celeb homes. Dino was gone at this point.

It’s worth noticing that only the foreign born comedian had Halloween decorations up & was outside welcoming children.

Wow. This "insider" is one entitled asshole. You approach complete strangers when they're trying to eat and demand that the celebs in your neighborhood celebrate Halloween. What the fuck is wrong with you?

parissucksliterally said...

"Flats" is an area in Beverly Hills.

kelli grrrl said...

@cheesegrater --- I'm guessing you don't celebrate Halloween? Just sounded like a mom taking her kids out in their new, fancy neighborhood to me.

sandybrook said...

I dunno I think celebs have big walls surrounding their houses because they aren't celebrating things with other people!e, they want to be left alone when they are home and away from the limelight. And not spend their free time with non-famous people.

KaiserWilhelm'sGhost said...

Famous comedian with one routine -
Yakov Smirnoff

Somehow I can see him being nice to kids.

cheesegrater15 said...

I love Halloween, but I don't throw a temper tantrum when people in the neighborhood don't celebrate. The more blinds this person writes the more justified the behavior of the celebs. She sounds like an obnoxious, intrusive, pushy bitch.

Thia said...

I'm enjoying these blinds as well as the comments from the snarky people (meant in a positive way - you all make me laugh!). But each of these blinds involves food in some way. That's odd.

cc423 said...

Yakov Smirnoff is a super nice guy

cheesegrater15 said...

According to the writer they should be on 24/7 and cater to the whims of their non-celeb neighbors. Wants to be alone? How dare they. My god!

andrea said...

I totally agree with you cheesegrater. Their first story was great but now they do just sound like an entitled asshole.

Thia said...

For the record, I also hide during Halloween. haha Maybe some of these famous people were truly not at home, maybe some don't like kids. Handing out free junk food is not mandatory.

Sd Auntie said...

Sound like A JW. Kids celebrate Halloween especially in the ritzy areas.regular candy bars are the special treats!

sandybrook said...

Since her mother worked at the Plaza, maybe her mom was a chef or line cook and thus she would have an interest in food, if not working in the food services industry.

PhyllisWhitweed said...

Did you ever think just maybe they were out partying away from home? Jeez you moved to an actual neighborhood not a theme park.

Sd Auntie said...

Halloween was better than Chtistmas in my book. The reluctant neighbors may be security conscious and that may be the reason. Especially in LA.

Unknown said...

Jeez, I don’t know why they don’t stand by their door, waiting for ghenhoards to arrive with their bags. Maybe because they heard about Rebecca Shaeffer, who answered a door bell to a crazy fan who killed her. Or maybe if people hear they can access the house on Halloween, buses will come full of people. She sounds very snarky herself.

The hoards

Colonel Blake said...

My twin granddaughters go trick or treating. They bring back a pillow case each 3/4 full.
The rub: Neither like candy/chocolate! haha
They've been this way since they were toddlers and they're now 10 and continue to be this way.
Mom and dad just take their haul into their workplaces for employees to eat.

gauloise said...

If I were famous or wealthy I wouldn't open my door at halloween either, too many opportunities to get robbed or have to deal with people coming just to rubberneck, like this poster

IanPhlegming said...

First of all, massive applause for Tricia13, who crushed it. Thank you.

But second....it was HALLOWEEN. You make it sound like OP shouldn't be out trick'r'treatin'! I appreciated "her"(?) observations. Especially about Bruce & Demi, who have long creeped me out, even though they've probably made at least a half-dozen movies between them that I've loved and watched many times (albeit some absolute cancerous stinkers, too). Quintessential examples of movie stars that I wish I knew nothing about beyond their roles.

That whole street except for the Russian guy sounds creep-tastic, in fact. Maybe they're all connected underground for secret "parties."

IanPhlegming said...

Forgot to add: If you can hire beefy security guys to scare people off your property, you can hire somebody to hand out candy for you in a friendly fashion.

Unknown said...

Another fascinating, scandalous story about people who want you to leave them alone.

cheesegrater15 said...

Right? Can't wait for her next blind:

"So, like, I was in a famous coffee shop, and the dairy free caramel macchiatto and blueberry muffin I savored just went right through me. Fortunately, I saw this A+ permanent movie actress we all know and love go into the restroom before me. I knew this was my chance to tell her how much I admired her work. In the stall next to her I tried in vain to strike up a conversation but she completely ignored me! I even tried to hand her a piece of paper under the stall door for an autograph and she wouldn't take it! Rude!!

I'll think twice before seeing any more of her movies."

I have heard good things about Yak off Smirnoff from people who live in Branson Missouri where he is most recently been based out of, also I would say that ironically he was probably the only non-communist in that neighborhood

I get the feeling she's not that tactful. 😂😂😂

Love these InsiderHer ones!

How I wish people still respected Halloween! Every house in my neighborhood growing up decorated and gave out candy, and every kid was out making merry. Now, half of them decorate, but take their kids to *blech* church Trunk-or-Treat, and don't give out candy at all.

Poor kids, spending Halloween at *gag* CHURCH.
(I'm in the South)

kelli grrrl said...

@cheese --- I love Halloween, too. I'm enjoying the INSIDERHER blinds, but definitely taking them with a grain of salt. :o)

FlirtyChick74 said...

I turn off the lights during Halloween too. Although I heard that my neighbors also hand out jello shots, wine/beer, and appetizers to the parents too so I might start participating now.

Unknown said...

I used to turn off the lights... now my tiny "estate" has a gate and the house can't be seen from the street. Excellent arrangement.

Tricia13 said...

cheesegrater15 said...

Barf. They do that now at the church I went to when I was a kid. I miss the way it was in the 80s and 90s.

@cheesegrater I'm crying and am loving that scenario.

pixiegothy said...

after reading about all those child molesters in hollywood, I don't think if I had kids I would let them go near a celebrity house on halloween or any other day

P. Edwin Nibbles said...

Frankly, I've stopped participating in Halloween since my home was egged.

Who knew the vicious little bastards would turn on me for handing out shrimp and vegan treats?

pixiegothy said...

LMAO thanks for the laugh @cheesegrater15, your imaginary bathroom story was hysterical!!!! I think the best thing about INSIDERHER blinds are the comments

LovelyLady78 said...

I don't answer my door at Halloween either. I'm tired because trick or treating happens after work, I don't want to buy candy and I don't want to keep walking back and forth to my door. Also, many of these celebrities are working & they really aren't home. So this "blind" is a much ado about nothing.

Sara, Making It Work said...

Add me to the Yakof Smirnoff party. Quality dude.

And as if these rich people don't have housekeepers or nannies to hand out candy. Sheesh. Cheap bastards.

Unknown said...

Meh. As much as I don't care for celebrities and wouldn't let kids near them, they deserve the same privacy at home that anyone does, and I understand why dealing with the public in that context would be a problem. How many people would stick their kids in the car and drive a couple hours to trick-or-treat in a neighborhood like that if they thought all the celebs would come to the door? Around here, there are enough people who drive across town to trick-or-treat in the "rich" neighborhood, without fame involved.

So not a story. And a pretty weak justification for a standard "foreigners are soooo much better than natives" jab.

NancyFromNebraska said...

Soooo, let's talk about this foreign born comedian...

Jne said...

The foreign comedian seems nice...and naive.

I actually understand how the celebs wouldn't want to pass out treats or tricks to the costumed hoi polloi...imagine if one of the hoi polloi was armed, or a stalker or psycho.

Weekittylass said...

My lights stay off at Halloween too. I live in the farthest house in a court, off of a court. Most of us are older sans chillrun. The three families that are neighbors, that do have kiddos, I make special treat bags for them. I always love seeing their costumes. When my kids were trick or treating age, they went with a big group around our neighborhood and I would sit on our front porch handing out chocolate and cups of rum punch for the adults. When I was a kid back in the 60’s, we lived in London. It was a new development with American-style homes and a lot of Americans, who worked for Aramco, lived there. We decided to go trick or treating one year. The look of confusion on the faces of our English neighbors was priceless. We had to explain what we were doing and most just gave us shillings to go away. It was quite a lucrative night for us and we would spend our haul on fireworks for Guy Fawkes.

Jennacheryl said...

@P. Edwin Nibbles lamp off that was funny!
@Jane Hanoi valid points.

I can say I agree with the beefy Burnley men handing out candy.

I Also see why the author was upset because she truly didn't know that there was no trick-or-treating in the new neighborhood. I wouldn't of known that either and I would've been excited to take my kids around .

I've always heard that Smirnov is a sweet dude, just honestly nice and kind. But...

In Soviet Russia, even they're tired of that joke.

Bad dum dum. Tsss.

Anyway, they don't seem to do Halloween anywhere in CA anymore. I've lived here since 1980, and I think we had kids less than a handful of times? My mom loved Halloween, she'd buy a huge bowl of candy every year, that would sit on the counter getting slowly eaten until Thanksgiving. Since living on my own, I've never had anyone knock on my door on Halloween. Not once. And I've always lived in safe, nice areas. I stopped buying candy a long time ago.

Compared to being a kid, growing up on the East Coast, where the doorbell would start at 4pm for the littlest kids, and keep going until 10pm. I remember my dad yelling at some teens for knocking at around 11pm. You'd walk around at 8pm, and the streets were clogged with trick or treaters. I've never seen that in CA. You only see costumes on adults now. You don't really see kids in CA in the wild, and Calfornians don't really "do" neighboring.

Sad.

Unknown said...

Sorry, but kids are highly over rated. Not everyone cares about passing out candy. I don't get why this is a thing.

Southern Man said...

Description seems Palisades, but 'flats' is down in B Hills. Misdirection/deniability?

Tink said...

First off. Why would anyone in this day and age let strangers come up to the door. Not safe. They have designated times and areas for trick or treating and why are you leading your children down dirt roads?? Tricia you need to get a life. This sitght went from fun to sick fucks guessing about real peoples lives.. Why would you want to put half this shit out anyway!!

Come to my house in South Carolina. Kids get candy, adults get wine or beer. But I also know no one wants to kill me.

Enty, more Insideher blinds please. I enjoy them and also it generates the best comments.

Guess we all know cheesegrater is that grouchy old asshole who stands outside his house shaking his cane and yelling at neighborhood kids to get off his lawn!

Unknown said...

No cheesey, you just throw a temper tantrum when a person writes a blind that for some odd reason you choose to take offense too!

Bumtitty said...

that comedian sounds like a peado

DogsMatter said...

I like these blinds, they are just giving a glimpse of what it's like to live amongst celebrities. We are reading this blog for that reason aren't we? We lived in Laguna Beach for a while & many famous people owned beautiful homes overlooking the ocean, which you could see on the cliffs while on the beach. They always looked empty. Prob just a vacation home, but if I was lucky enough to own one, I would never leave!

ReallyTired said...

I can't believe some of these comments. Most celebrities I've known are rarely home. They shoot 2 or 3 movies a year, each taking 4 to 6 months to shoot, many times in another country, so a lot of celebs probably aren't home. A lot of them haven't been home for months.

"I've been in Romania shooting this movie for 3 months, I've got 2 more months left to shoot, but I really need to plan for Halloween even though I won't be home for 2 more months."

And paying people to hand out candy for them? What fucking world do you live in where that makes sense? The biggest thing some of you don't appear to know is a lot of celebs don't have maids or security. Their security is the gate around their home because this is 2018 and there are tons of crazy people out there wanting to do harm to others. They're protecting themselves and their loved ones, why would they forget all of that and just let strangers come up to their front door hoping that everyone is sane and won't hurt them?

And seriously, have their maids hand it out? "Hey Rosa, I know you just worked a full day and want to go home to take your own kids out trick or treating, but I want you to stay and hand out candy to kids on the off chance their parents are dumb douche bags that might go on a gossip site and trash me for having a life and daring to work on Halloween or take my own kids out on Halloween."

I swear when I used to visit this site everyday years ago the comment section was filled with more intelligent people, but I guess they left a long time ago.

LooLooMoron - not everybody is as perfect as you and cheesewanker think you are, it must be exhausting having to suffer all the inferior people inflicted on you by the internet.

DogsMatter said...

I've been reading this blog since the start (I think 2007?) & always enjoy the comments, even if I don't agree with viewpoints. I have never commented until this one. But I have to agree that thinking movie stars, celebrities would give out candy to trick or treaters is slightly naive lol! They don't want fans knowing where they live & probably aren't home anyway.

TwoDots said...

Interesting that a Latin name is assigned to the maid.

I too hide at Halloween - it’s not mandatory to give out junk food.

Whatever said...

are you kidding me you don't even have the balls to tell us who leaves their lights out Halloween..gtfoh

Guesser said...

Surprised no one mentioned all the Hollywood crowd dress themselves up in very elaborate costumes and have their own parties. Halloween has been hijacked by grownups.

ReallyTired said...

@I'm Outraged Where do I say I'm perfect? It's not about being perfect, it's about using some very basic common sense.

ReallyTired said...

@Guesser That's very true! Halloween has definitely become bigger with adults over the years.

VDOVault said...

Minor nitpick from the Army brat here:
It's military INSTALLATION not military installment.

This might be the dumbest blind on the whole site. Literally nothing happens.

Dumblesnore said...

Sounds about 100% correct for Branson lol

Bubbles said...

Two dots, Roselita or Rosita, yes. Rosa is hardly Spanish or Spanish sounding. I've known many American Rosa, some in my own family.

Sorry, but not everyone is into Halloween. It's not like it's an experience that builds character in kids that's going to traumatize them for life is they miss out on it. And considering the number of stars that avoid the sweets and particularly the candy on the crafts services table, why should people be forced to buy something for complete strangers that themselves most likely don't buy for themselves or eat?

KittensRUs said...

"For the record, I also hide during Halloween. haha Maybe some of these famous people were truly not at home, maybe some don't like kids. Handing out free junk food is not mandatory."

I live on a gated property and there's no doorbell at the gate for a reason.

Some of these comments are just weird. I read the blind twice and still cannot find any mention of the writer throwing a tantrum, or demanding anything from anyone... I thought it was interesting and funny.
