Blind Item #6 - Reader Blind Item

Nobody questioned the death of this noted character actor.  He had heart problems for awhile and was in fact in the process of having an operation scheduled when he died of an alleged heart attack.

This actor’s most recognizable role was in a film about incarceration with this permanent A+ Oscar nominated/Oscar winning deceased star.  At one point, the actor says a line of dialogue to the star that was much repeated and has become part of pop culture. The star was a fan of the actor and made sure he was cast in a number of his films. The actor was also in many episodes of this long running TV western as well as being in many movie westerns.  Later in his life he was in a film featuring two famous stoners and several horror movies.

If they had checked the medicine cabinet of his older, mentally unstable wife, they would have found poison that if taken could be mistaken for a heart attack.  She did  confide all to her psychiatrist.

Good guess! The film is Cool Hand Luke

The film is Cool Hand Luke but the actor is Strother Martin, who was also in Slapshot and Butch Cassidy. He also appeared in a Cheech and Chong movie. His famous line in Cool Hand Luke is “What we got here is failure to communicate.”

Excellent guess Stephe96, I think you got it!! Paul Newman in my, eyes was one of the most handsome men to ever walk this planet. He and Liz Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof were way too much hotness for one film.

Yes - Strother Martin was in multiple episodes of Gunsmoke and Bonanza...along with several other TV westerns
His wife was 10 years older than him

What's more likely, that his crazy wife killed him, or that his bum ticker finally gave out and his crazy wife lied to her psychiatrist that she did it?

Only problem with George Kennedy is his wife died in 2015 he died in 2016. Maybe her ghost killed him.

strother Martin. Definitely. What a horrible story. He also was in Cheech & Chongs Up in Smoke (for the two famous stoners). I'm 99% sure Strother was also in Slap Shot with Newman in addition to Cool Hand Luke.

Well done Stephe96.
That line is so iconic it ended up in Civil War by Guns n Rose's.
