Planning Your Calendar Really Really Far In Advance
The Hobbit movies were both given a release date and if you are planning to by tickets to them, then mark your calendars for December 14, 2o12, and December 13, 2013. That latter date is the first movie scheduled for the 2013 holiday season. That is two and half years from now. That is crazy. I know you want to lock in a day early, but they do realize we are not even halfway through 2011 and they are talking about a date that is almost in 2014. Do you think The Hobbit movies will do any good? I liked the Lord Of The Rings movies but I didn't love them. I felt like it was some sort of 3 hour obligation I had to get through every year to prove to the world that I had watched them. I have only ever watched them once.

I won't go so far as to say I am buying a calender to mark the date on..now if I HAD a calender.... ;)
I loved the LOTR movies and am very much looking forward to the Hobbit movies now--and I'm delighted to hear that they are not trying to cram the book into 1 movie.
I'm one of those literary snobs who never thinks a movie is as good as the book it's made from, but the LOTR movies are the best instance I've seen of a movie living up to a book. So, yeah, bring them on. And I sure hope Howard Shore scores the Hobbit as well.
I'm with you, Enty. I liked the Lord of The Rings, but didn't love them. I barely watch movies in theatres at all these days - it has to really BEG to be watched on the big screen or I'll download that shiz instead - for free.

Shawshank is really close to the book. There are pages and pages of book dialogue that are in the movie (in order too!)
Kind of like I just got the Sears Fall/Winter catalog the other day, should be getting the Christmas Wish Book any day....ridiculous

Considering I read the The Hobbit in 1968 and dove into LOTR right after, I never thought these books would make it to the big screen.
LOTR blew me away, it was that awesome. So yeah, count me in to be there the first week it comes out.
Well, at least we get to see one of 'em before the world ends ;)

The Hobbit is one of my favorite books. I like it even better than LoTR, and I loved the LoTR movies, so HELL YES!!! I will be spending the night in line to get tickets to the opening show! It isn't about seeing the movie "first," it's the energy of seeing it in the theater with people who are just as excited as you are. There's nothing like it.
I think it was more about good will since this production has had so many issues and set backs.
It's letting people know everything is on track and will be released on time both dates.

Thank Heavens for early ticket sales at the movie theater, not only will I be there (With all my nerdy teacher friends), but we'll be there for the midnight showing I'm sure they'll have. I didn't see FOTR in the theater because I was convinced it couldn't live up to the books, something I've bitterly regretted, I won't take a chance on missing out again!
I LOVED the LOTR movies, and I liked the Hobbit book more than the LOTR books so I am definitely counting down the days til these movies!
If I was a dude I would be having a nerdoner right now! I am really, really excited! I have read and re-read the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy about 30 times and I can proudly say I will be in attendance of this release on day 1!!

I loved the LOTR movies when I first saw them in the theater, but I couldn't deal with watching them now. I'll probably see the new series, but I don't expect it to make the kind of cash the first series made.
