Your Turn

In the Miss USA pageant, Miss Ohio named Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman as a positive role model to women. Donald Trump obviously agrees and now has Miss Ohio on speed dial. Do you agree?

What's wrong with having a prostitute as a role model?

SueRH said...

OMG, seriously? What is wrong with these women??

Yes I totally agree that Mr Trump has her on speed dial>

It's a contest to pick Trump's new objects of affection. Why do you expect something better than this?

Call girls are our new role models?

Is that why I burned my bra in the '70's?

Do you think that she was told to say Erin Brockovich, but said Pretty Woman because she couldn't remember which Julia Roberts movie to pick?

What? That's a dumber answer than Miss Teen South Carolina or whoever's soliloquy on maps.

I can think of plenty of positive female role models in movies. Heck, any Disney movie of the last 20 years has at least one!

I too would pick a hooker version of a fairy tale character as my role model.

SMH

At least she didn't name a reality star.

I cannot watch anything with Trump. Can't stand his face. Can't stand his voice.

Well, we now know where Miss Ohio's ambitions lie; to be purchased by a rich man.

It's beyond time to get rid of these stupid pageants. Perhaps it would be the first step to getting rid of those idiotic Toddlers & Tiaras nonsense.

I'm really tired of stupid stupid women who only have their looks to fall back on, make stupid remarks like this that makes the rest of us look as stupid as she is.
(Hopefully that was a coherent sentence. This really pisses me off.)

She obviously was getting pageant competition pointers from the Toddlers and Tiara's girls.

Omg I watched that and Cringed for her! I was rooting for her because I'm from Ohio (I know I watch tacky/demeaning/trump show but I'm sucker for ridiculous tv) anyways I was like NOOOooooo she did not just name a prostitute with a Cinderella-come-and-save-me complex as a positive role for women in film! She couldn't've picked a worse depiction

She was an idiot.

Miss Rhode Island deserved to win based on her answer alone. Only one with a tough question and the only one with an answer that made sense. And I'm sure it made Trump livid and he will find someway to dethrone her.

It's like looking into that Toddlers & Tiara's girl's future. You know, the one that dressed up as Julia's character in Pretty Woman...

@*karen* - I seriously wonder if you're aren't correct. LMAO at this chick either way. ;-)

Somebody please take her crown & all the other crowns & burn them.

anita_mark said...

Was there context to her saying that? Something like believe in yourself and... or other junk like that? Or is the girl just stupid and that's probably her favourite movie (which says enough).

EmEyeKay said...

@anita, she said something about the character being down on her luck and then turning her life around. Which was not the case.

I was laughing when she said Pretty Woman.
The hosts were giggling.

Miss. USA looks like Olivia Palmero

Beauty pageants to me are stupid, so I honestly don't care what any of the contestants have to say about anything.

...on another note...the only reason Julia Roberts character was able to turn her life around, was because she totally lucked out and met a rich man who gave her money after hooking for him for a week. If she never had met Richard Gere's character, she'd still be hooking.

anita_mark said...

Oh God, that's so tragic. What a stupid girl.

Was that mom from Toddlers and Tiaras who dressed up her 3 yr old as Pretty Woman in the pageant?

This is fucked up, lol. What is wrong with these girls.

Being a Michigander, can't say I'm shocked that inane comment came from Ohio :) Of course it's not a positive role!! on so many levels. I think some woman/girls really, get caught up in the "Bad girl makes good" but the bad girl only managed to get a rich man who can take care of her. Better if she would have seen him drive up, and said, "No thanks, I'm going back to school to become a lawyer."

Of course a girl who has bought herself fake breasts and parades herself on national tv in a bikini for the sole purpose of being judged like a heifer at the state fair thinks that "Pretty Woman" is her ideal. Having a rich man buy you clothes and jewelry and force people to suck up to you because of all the money you have to spend? And all you have to do is service him sexually whenever he wants? Sadly, for lots of young women that's the dream.

Um.... no.

RJ...doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way.
j/k
But to think of all the men I slept with when I didn't feel like it...for free...it does. lol

Omg, was she serious???!!!!! Jesus!!!

ok, here's a question, had any of you been asked the same question, what would you have said?

Bit dams said...

nerves maybe??

did you also see that rob kardashain (who judged) was asked at a break if there was a future "mrs kardashain" in the group. he responded by saying that while the girls were beautiful, it was because of a lot of makeup and hairspray. guess he likes natural beauties, like his whoring sisters (gag.

And why I worked at lower rates of pay instead of giving bjs to skeevy old guys.

__-__=__ said...

I could have said Barbara Jordan.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I'm sure it was nerves. I bet that was the first face/name that popped into her head.

But no, Miss Vivian is not a good role model. Richard Gere buys her a new life. If it was her doing it by herself w/out the help of a man.

Doesn't make me love that movie any less, though! :)

If someone had told me over 20 years ago, when I first saw Pretty Woman, that this would even be an answer, I would have said the person was NUTS! I remember when Julia Roberts was first interviewed on ET during the filming, and it was no biggy. It Gary Marshall who was the big thing at the time. She was a lucky hooker! Geez!

It just boggles my mind what will stick with people so many years later. I wonder when Eddie Murphy's Boomerang with Hallie Berry will come up as someone's insperation for something.
