Wow...this guy is a rock star. I would have been freaking out. The beer gave this adorable look at the top though...like a puppy dog. I think the beer was so buys trying to hang on, it wasn't going to attack.

Considering he's a hunter, with all the advantages of camo, a viewing post & a rifle (I assume), I hope he at least shit his pants. Better luck next time Mr. Bear.
His coolness probably saved his life. Unlike humans, most animals don't attack without purpose (food, protect, danger). In this case the hunter wasn't food, there apparently was nothing to protect and the guy's lack of reaction meant the bear sensed no danger. Result: no attack. Now if only humans could learn those lessons.
Be paralyzed with fear? Yeah, that's probably what I would've done, too. Did you see how fast it climbed that tree? No way I could get down and run away fast enough!
Yeah, he played it right. Animals have a pretty good sense about such things. Make sure the bear knows you're a cool guy and, assuming it has no other reasons to maul you, it should go alright. I would have talked to it in a calm and relaxed manner. At the same time, I'd have been planning my defense strategy (just in case). Lastly, I'd make sure that if things turned ugly, my last words would be "fuck you, Bear," sorta like Mel Bernstein.
I can not believe how fast that bear got up the tree. Those suckers are fast. You could see a part of his shirt in the video and he was shaking.
It looked like a younger bear and was just curious. An idiot like me would try to pet it and lose a hand.

I loved that, because this guy did exactly the right thing. I would have liked a shot of his pants, though.
I would have said "Holy Shit" loud enough for the bear to hear, then subsequently mauled and eaten. :(
Why was the cameraman up the tree anyway? Even this city slicker knows that bears can climb.

Looked like a black bear. While still dangerous, they're mainly curious. It was just checking out the strange smell. Had it been a grizzly, totally different story.
