Random Photos Part Five- Fashion Week

Uma Thurman

I see Christina Ricci who looks about four feet tall in this photo. Michelle Dockery. Rose McGowan.
Ashley Greene
Ashley second from right is joined by Jane Krakowski and Katie Cassidy.
Ali Larter showed a great deal of breast in this dress. Probably not the look she was going for.
Emmy Rossum in the middle defines this as twerking. For her, maybe.
Rita Ora and her DKNY pajamas.
Taylor Momsen is alive and looking to land a role in Aliens. Her head is freaking me out.
Kelly Rutherford.

Taylor Momsen has coke dust on her knees. Also did no one guess her as the answer to the blind about the girl who was competing against the Fanning sisters for roles? Dingdingding!

And most of these outfits are fug. Fashion week - hah!

Wait, did Uma have a baby already and I missed it? I thought she was pregnant last time I saw her.

Looks like the Witches of Eastwick sitting in the front row!

C. Ricci looks like four feet tall because she is four feet tall (or less than five).

I didn't know J. Krakowski had done surgery, her face looks dead.

This Fashion Week is scraping the crusty, caked, smeared bottom of the barrel in terms of attendance.
Not that I care about these self-centered, elitist shenanigans.
I actually have some scrumptious schadenfreude going on.

Soft-Boiled Fetal Duck

Balut takes a top spot by a landslide among the gross egg category, which should include 100-year old eggs. Balut is a fairly common and unassuming street food available in both the Philipines and Vietnam. It has also earned a widespread reputation as one of the all-time grossest ethnic delicacies. Most of the eggs with which Americans are familiar are unfertilized eggs. The balut, though are fertilized duck eggs, incubated or allowed to grow invitro for a certain length of time, usually a few weeks. Peel back the shell and along with a typical soft-boiled eggy interior is also the small inert body of a fetal duck—small bones, feathers, beak and all, some more developed than others. Most accounts suggest slurping it right from the shell with a pinch of salt. There is a right way to “enjoy” balut.

Christine Taylor, digital editor of the Hartford Courant, recalls the moment in February 2012 when the trollery "got out of hand. We said, 'That's it. We have to do something else.' " Like several sites, the Courant farmed out its comment system to Facebook, which requires registration.

This fall, Inquirer.com, PhillyDailyNews.com and Philly.com will roll out a new comment system to "address ongoing problems with trolls," says Robert Cauthorn, architect of digital strategy for parent company Interstate General Media, which owns all three entities.

In the anti-troll movement, The Inquirer joins some of the most recognizable names in media: the New York Times, NBC News, National Public Radio, ESPN.com, Gawker.

Could we be witnessing a Web turning point? More adult conversation, less middle-school lunchroom?

How can troll posts be recognised?

No Imagination - Most are frighteningly obvious; sexist comments on nurses' groups, blasphemy on religious groups .. I kid you not.
Pedantic in the Extreme - Many trolls' preparation is so thorough, that while they waste time, they appear so ludicrous from the start that they elicit sympathetic mail - the danger is that once the group takes sides, the damage is done.
False Identity - Because they are cowards, trolls virtually never write over their own name, and often reveal their trolliness (and lack of imagination) in the chosen ID. As so many folk these days use false ID, this is not a strong indicator on its own!
Crossposting - Any post that is crossposted to several groups should be viewed as suspicious, particularly if unrelated or of opposing perspective. Why would someone do that?
Off-topic posting - Often genuine errors, but, if from an 'outsider' they deserve matter-of-fact response; if genuine, a brief apposite response is simply netiquette; if it's a troll post, you have denied it its reward.
Repetition of a question or statement is either a troll - or a pedant; either way, treatment as a troll is effective.
Missing The Point - Trolls rarely answer a direct question - they cannot, if asked to justify their twaddle - so they develop a fine line in missing the point.
Thick or Sad - Trolls are usually sad, lonely folk, with few social skills; they rarely make what most people would consider intelligent conversation. However, they frequently have an obsession with their IQ and feel the need to tell everyone. This is so frequent, that it is diagnostic! Somewhere on the web there must be an Intelligence Test for Trolls - rigged to always say "above 150"

Maggoty Mushrooms

What it is: Maggots are fly larvae, tiny rice-shaped creatures that feast on rotting foods.

Where it is: The Food and Drug Administration legally allows 19 maggots and 74 mites in a 3.5-ounce can of mushrooms.

Why it's bad: While maggots do have their place in the medical world—they can help heal ulcers and other wounds—most people think it's pretty gross to eat them!

If you need another reason to ditch canned goods, consider this: Most are lined with bisphenol A, or BPA, a plastic chemical that causes unnatural hormonal changes linked to heart attacks, obesity, and certain cancers.

That shirt on Michelle is so flattering NOT!

I like Uma. She looks great but she still has some baby stomach it looks like she's sucking it in.

ITA agree @babo. Such a lame and lackluster "celeb" turnout for NYFW.

Love uma and am heartbroken about what she did to her face. Uma it was perfect the way it was.

auntliddy said...

And its enough already with twerking. Its been done to death and it looks asinine and ridiculous.

If ever they do a reboot of Benson (and no I'm not hinting I want one) Uma would be perfect as Gretchen.

Auntliddy: I knew the phenomena was over when my mum knew what tweaking was!

* twerking

abob said...

@Rach I'd have a word with your mum about her lifestyle choices, and possible rehab, if she's been tweaking.

Abob: ha ha ha! That's a mental image my husband will never be able to purge from his mind! Nah, my mum's a full on churchy type who last time we caught up, asked me what twerking was and to see a vid on my phone. A friend of hers had mentioned it. I can't see my mum twerking to her Hillsong CD's! Thanks for the laugh! (And my husband's dick crawled inside his body for refuge!)
