Blind Item #9

An entire alphabet soup of Feds have been paying much more attention recently to our celebrity CEO and his company. There is a certain, very expensive option, which his company was hyping to customers, for a few extra thousand dollars. The problem was that this option didn't really exist, and never really would. Very recently, the Feds quietly reached out to the company, and told them to end this charade or else. The company just abruptly stopped offering this non-existent option, and may owe consumers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Well this alphabet would include these letters FBI and SEC if this BI was true.

This is the self-driving Tesla that apparently does not and will not exist.

Tesla starts taking orders for shorter-range Model 3 and drops 'full self-driving' feature

Please note that Self-Driving functionality is dependent upon extensive software validation and regulatory approval, which may vary widely by jurisdiction. It is not possible to know exactly when each element of the functionality described above will be available, as this is highly dependent on local regulatory approval. Please note also that using a self-driving Tesla for car sharing and ride hailing for friends and family is fine, but doing so for revenue purposes will only be permissible on the Tesla Network, details of which will be released next year.

Yes they stopped the option but the math here doesn’t correspond to reality. Hundreds of millions of dollars? This is a shirt seller trying to damage the company. Tesla has sold less than 100,000 model 3s. This option is $3k. So even if every single person purchased it, that would only be 3 million dollars. And obviously the number is MUCH lower, very likely a faction of that amount.

Cars have been "self driving" since 1948 when cruise control was invented. Much of what is touted today is basically "cruise control 2.0" with sensors and GPS. Drivers who utilize "self driving" without continuing to pay attention are what is known as fatalities.

@jay 100,000 cars at $3,000 each is $300,000,000.

@D Brown.
Was just about to post that myself.

That was some Tesla-like accounting right there.

Does this mean my ticket to Mars has been voided?

Eh, still better than faulty air bags or engine blocks that crack or steering columns that self ignite like some other automakers.

Thats exactly what Tucker did on his cars that got him in trouble. Only he did it backwards, he sold optional accessories for non existent cars. People think that big auto companies wanted to put him out of business but he was doing some pretty shady things.

up to 300m dollars for something non existent. Amazing marketing

On my browser, the text of the blind item is in black over a white background, with a different font (Helvetica Neue). The guy who copied and pasted the text from a mail to put them in a template just forgot to dismiss style enhancements.
