Too long ago to remember, in any case for all that I joined the record clubs and got in bulk for free or very little money.

Cant remember cassette, 8-track or cd because they were probably re-buys of something I had on vinyl already but my first album I believe was Neil Young, After the Gold Rush.
I have now bought many many albums over in 4 newer platforms. No wonder we downloaded mp3s for free back then and believed we deserved it.

Glad to read I'm NOT the only one who remembers 8 Tracks.

Yet, I don't remember what album, 8 Track, cassette or CD was first.

But, I do remember installing the 8 Track player in my dad's Plymouth Station Wagon without his permission!

=)

8 track- Meatloaf. For the longest time I could tell you where the songs would "click" to the next track in the middle of the song.

Cassette- probably Olivia Newton John, though I would usually try to tape the songs off the radio when they played them, didn't buy too many. And many, many mixed tapes from the boys- for you younger kids- back in the day, if a guy liked a girl, he would "burn" a cassette tape with tons of love songs that shows their love for the girl, often with mushy talk between songs. Much more fun than "talking" with boys via text and snapchat.

Record- I had a copy of my dad's "Jesus Christ Superstar" that I remember playing over and over again as a kid. But first one? Probably "Babes in Toyland" from one of those books/album deals to play on my kiddie record player.

CD- most definitely Prince.

Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper = first album
It's all a blur after that. Although I do remember having a lot of 8 track tapes, too.
I do remember being very happy that I was gifted with The Beatles Blue & Red CD's after having the albums destroyed by a younger sibling.

If my memory is correct:

Album - Grease (parents paid for it)
Tape - Duran Duran
CD - Nirvana

Green Tea said...

I was obsessed with Duran Duran for years. In 1987, my parents let me fly to Montreal (with a cousin) to see them. They were part of the David Bowie Glass Spider tour. I left after they played because I didn't know who David Bowie was. Jeesh!

First 45 Twist and Shout with A Taste of Honey on the B side. First albums, I got three for my birthday) Aqualung, John Barleycorn Must Die and Let It Be. I had three older brothers and an older sister so plenty of great music abounded. My parents also had a great stereo system or as my mother called it, the hi-fi.

I only remember the album--Abbey Road. I was eight or nine and my cousins bought it for me for Christmas. My parents were very unsure if it was suitable for a kid that age, but they finally agreed it was ok. Just tt be sure, I always played it at low volume just in case.

I still love it

Beatles Rubber Soul. My brother received it as a booby prize at a party (in 1965 the band was considered a joke to late-20's professionals)and gave it to me, his 10 year old sister. Wish I still had it!

First LP I "bought" I actually stole. My friend and I went to the drug store where they kept the albums up in the front. We went early in the day and pulled all the records we wanted to one place, near the door, and then we went back later and grabbed the stack and ran out of the store with them. I'd say Tommy was the first. First cassette was the Grass Roots. 8 track was BTO. Showing my age.

One of my first cassettes was a Paula Abdul single from "Santa". I was so excited. Put it into my awesome pink and purple boom box and lo and behold, it was in Spanish. Couldn't understand a word. I then heard my mom arguing with my Dad about what a dumbass he was. I, too, agreed, Santa was a dumbass.
