Blind Items Revealed #1

October 31, 2019

This foreign born A-/B+ list mostly movie actress who is an Oscar winner/nominee turned down multiple movies because of a television show she thought she would be doing. Apparently what was proposed to the network didn't involve enough sex and nudity, so they went with something else.

Naomi Watts/Game Of Thrones prequel

Hey, Enty!

Are you hinting that HBO wanted more porn than story drama?

GOT wouldn't have made a 2nd season w/o the sex & violence.

I thought they could have had better scenarios for the center of a prequel. Making Jon Snow a Targaryen was kind of where things started going wrong in my opinion.

I kind of liked the idea of Ned having gotten busy with Melisandra at some point, lol!

They don't need the nudity now, people desperately want a prequel

I'm not sure they do, Freckles. That last season was a disaster. It sickened a hell of a lot of people off GoT. Me for one, and I loved it. I can't even be bothered to watch the first five seasons anymore, and they were some of the best television ever made.

The two Ds treated their viewers with such contempt.

They were open about getting tired of it, fair enough. Hand over the reins to so done who might actually give a fuck then.

And then the deliberately shit all over their previous outstanding work in a disgraceful hurry to rush off and play space cowboys with the evil mouse. And how did that work out?

Fuck them. If it was up to me they'd be struggling to make a living making carpet warehouse commercials in Wyoming.

+10000 on fuck D and D A lot of comments on reddit/ other social media seems like most people are just over all things GoTafter what happened the last season. I won't be watching even though I watched the original. I don't trust HBO not to muck it up so I don't want to waste my time investing in something that they will probably mess up again in the end.

@Flashy Vic

I didn't stand the final season of GoT either, but the story about them rushing development is not true, the kind of stuff you find on any generic site that forgets the most elementary facts. Benioff and Weiss actually took almost a year off, between the seventh and the eighth season (which was shorter), to develop the scripts. That's why there were no episodes in 2018.
The guys are simply not good when it comes to develop sketches and drafts by Martin. They were good at condensing long volumes into a single season, at combining several characters into one screen version, at adding characters that embody something, so people can relate to stuff that was more abstract in the books, etc.
They were not good at finding motivations, writing speeches when they had not the written version, etc.

And the blind item isn't true either. Even if the reviews for the final season weren't good, even if there may be some fatigue, any show carrying the name "Game of Thrones" would still, at this point, draw audiences in. Just like it does with The Walking Dead today. They don't need nudity or violence to sell it. The name itself has more value.

I agree, I think the fans would give it another chance since there were so many brilliant moments in previous seasons.

Vulgarity, nudity, violence and no commercials is what made HBO great, used to be their only competition was Showtime.

Count Jerkula said...

Bullshit. They have a brand and if they dont stick to it, the audience will halve.

Count Jerkula said...

The last season of GOT was basically "This is over. We dont have to get them to watch anymore, so fuck it."

there were two prequels in development; one got the green light and the other didn't. nothing really to see here...

Brayson87 said...

+1 veee, Not to mention Naomi's wooden acting probably wasn't a boon to the series.

Angela, unless you have insider info that is absolutely not why they took the two years. The scripts were completed on time for a regular 1 year b/w shows. They had to be for filming and CGI to be completed in that 2 year period. If you saw or heard about the literally disastrous panel D&D had at Austin City Limits 2 days before 1) HBO announced it wasn't moving forward with the Age of Heroes/white walkers prequel and 2) D&D were dropped from Disney, they admitted they didn't allow anyone else into the writer's room. When HBO insisted they add another writer, they promoted their assistant/script supervisor Bryan Cogman. Then when they were asked to add another writer, who did they add? Oh, just their new assistant Dave Hill. These are things they admitted out loud. They also said that no one else saw the season 8 scripts before they were sent to everyone en masse.

TL;DR: Clownshoes

Naomi sucks. I'm actually glad that prequel got canned. I'm a giant GoT fan, the last season sucked rotten toe nails and Kristen from Ohio. That said, I'd definitely watch a prequel. I think most people would. Maybe the prequel will fix the finale? I don't know. I have the same feelings about LOST that I do about the final season of GoT. So much mythology, legend, and symbols lost to wrap it up fast.

Watts is fearless, she was amazing in Mulholland Drive and 21 Grams

i think GOT is beneath her

Ulf said...

Not a freaking prequel, hate those, they are useless since you know what happens anyway no matter what happens in the prequels. Sequels are 100%better

TeeHee@U said...

I have to agre @uff. No matter what happens in the prequels the ending of GoT will still be the same. At least with a sequel they could do some damage control on the final season. Oh well. I am sure a couple million people will still tune in based on brand recognition alone but I doubt they will ever see those GoT final season viewership numbers again. I knew a couple people who cancelled their HBO membership after GoT ended. I wonder how common that was.

I was a HUGE GOT fan. I would watch a prequel if it was good and D&D had nothing to do with it. That last season was rank. The prequel had the possibility of including Dunk and Egg which are fantastic stories.

@Vita--Ned and Melisandre? I never heard that matchup. Is she supposed to be Ashara Dayne in disguise?
