Reader Blind Item

Not only do readers send in links, Aeleen sent in this little blurb that I turned into a blind item.

Some co workers went to a _______________ (former A list singer way back in the day. Played keyboard for one of the all time greatest and is still a solid A lister with the Branson, MO crowd) show the other night and after the show they waited to get a signature from them... no luck he waved them off. One of the co workers left a message on his facebook page to let his management or _________ himself know how rude he was and it would of been nice to acknowledge the fans that support his show. How did ________/Management react? by unfriending said co worker and blocking them completely!

Enty is switching up pronouns and other details to confuse us. This is the new Dolly Parton hologram at Dixie Stampede.

Rose said...

If someone sent this in with the details, why does it have to be a blind item?

RenoBlondee said...

I'm confused.

strawberrygirl said...

I think the person who sent this in should comment on who it is...

spill the beans @Aeleen

Enty needs 90 more followers for a long blind reveal!

Michael McDonald

Usually blind items are supposed to be juicy and can't be revealed for fear of legal ramifications.

Anonymous poster said...

Sometimes items are blind because it's more fun to play the game of "Guess who?"

kim said...

Michael McDonald is my guess too.

GrumpyK said...

Barry Manilow, he
used to play piano for Bette Midler...

Beth said...

I think Grumpy K got it.

RJ said...

Michael McDonald makes sense. He was with the Doobie Bros. and also played keyboard and Hammond organ on lots of stuff for Steely Dan.

Robert said...

If the writer means that this is actually someone who plays Branson regularly, Michael McDonald and Manilow are both out.. (Manilow doesn't make sense anyway, as he's still a headliner - like him or not - and never played for anyone other than Midler..)

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

My guess is Neil Sedaka. Whomever it is, he and his management are class-A jerks!

whocaresnow12 said...

So a few people that work together and livein Branson went to a concert of a throwback to the 70's or 80's singer, then waited like groupies for an autograph, but didn't get it. As a result one of the workmates went to work and made a nasty post on a fan page and whoever was hired to o the social networking found the post offensive enough to delete it and block said person from "liking" or viewing the page again.

Doesn't this happen to most musicians and celebrities on a weekly basis?

Agent**It said...

.. happens on an an hourly basis ..

cheesegrater15 said...

A celebrity was rude to you? Waaaaaaaaaaaaah.....

whocaresnow12 said...

In my 20+ years in the entertainment industry I've found celebrities to be more nice and approachable, when they are being respected and treated as a person not a commodity, and most agents, management and PR people to be asses. Also, when exiting a stage after performing most artists are kind of exhausted and want 10 minutes to regroup before having sharpies shoved in their faces for autographs.

I'm not surprised said horseback didn't want to sign your cocktail napkin. You were asking at an inappropriate time. Duh!

Ninja said...

Not Michael McDonald. He's pretty firmly here in Nashville on a regular basis now.

Icecat said...

At least this blind isn't 5 paragraphs long... Lawd I'm getting sick of the long blinds.. And ITA with the other posters complaining about the white on black.. Sometimes I can't even read them because I don't want to go cross eyed after..

I have no guess on the blind, but I'm sure it happens all of the time...

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

It may happen a lot, but going to the lengths of blocking a fan on Facebook is over the top!

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Well now having reread all the comments I guess I'll have to acknowledge that the blocking on facebook mIght be reasonable after all. The fan should've sent a private message; not publicly posted on the wall. As to whether the star was being a jerk-- I guess I'd want to know more abt the exact circumstances of the brush-off.

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Ronnie Milsap played keyboard for Elvis, and he's currently playing Branson.

ForSure said...

Most of the celebrity pages on FB have private messaging turned off.

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Well regardless, there are usually private ways to communicate w a star's handlers...eg an email address. Or they could've written a note to hand off to the people running the Branson show. At any rate it's not surprising that writing public negative comments on a stars Facebook would be unacceptable.

Del Riser said...

Not Manilow, he headlines to often in Vegas to need Branson.

Ronnie Milsap was big back in the day, and seems a good guess.

I think a fan should always be aware of the time, place and intrusiveness level before asking for an autograph.

I've only ever asked for two. One was Randy (the big unit) Johnson when he pitched for the Mariners. He was waiting for his girlfriends plane to land at Sea-Tac and I was beside him. he was leaning against a pole and virtually unnoticed by anyone but me. He was gracious.

The other was Greta Cammameyer the high ranking Navy lady that answered *yes* to the are you gay question at one of her re-upping interviews. She was behind us on a plane from Reno to Seattle. I knew her immediately.
She ended up standing by me in baggage claim. The funny part was the only paper I had was a copy of New Woman magazine, she got a huge laugh out of it and happily signed.

whocaresnow12 said...

No it's not. You should see some of the things fans post. In order to be blocked one is usually foul, vagrant, abusive and threatening. It's never over "I'm so made you ignored me"

whocaresnow12 said...

Oooooor, this person could have just let it go. It's not like he/she got bad customer service at Applebee's

Redd Penny said...

So, some singer wouldn't sign an autograph, the butthurt fan posted a nastygram on FB and it got deleted?

Good. You got your show. Entertainers are not trained monkeys. You have no idea what was going on that night besides the show which you must have liked. Get over yourself. If you got defriended the message was probably inappropriate.

Unknown said...

Ignoring this blind to agree with icecat. White on black is horribly hard to read and then, you go read the comments and have to readjust to black on white. Ghastly!

Please Enty, go to a nice simple black on a pale colour, so we don't all go permanently cross-eyed.

Unknown said...

Manilow headlines in Vegas- not him.

mazemerizing said...

Perhaps the "solid A lister with the Branson MO crowd" doesn't mean the guy is actually playing IN Branson, but he's got fans who are the typical Branson, MO goer. So Michael McDonald could fit, even though he doesn't play there. I went to a Chicago concert (not in Branson) and was amazed at the older crowd, not thinking until later that I was kind of in that age range as well. And I've been to Branson once, :( but took my mother.

Depending on your browser, you should have some options to view sites that have layouts that aren't working for you for whatever reason. In Firefox, I sometimes just default to View -> Page Style -> No Style. It's quick and painless, and so is making font larger and smaller (CRTL + scrolling up or down with the mouse wheel.)

Whatever the layout here, some people are going to dislike it for their own reasons, and nothing is ever going to make everyone happy. I have Coke bottle glasses and have had a host of problems with my eyes since birth and I've always found this site very easy on my bad eyes. So a site owner is better off choosing a style that works for them, as long as it doesn't present serious accessibility issues.

Has to be Milsap, but then, who really cares?

This site layout is so 2001. It's awful. And forget about trying to read it on a mobile device. I do this for a living and I would fire myself if I churned out a turd like this site for one of my clients. A simple wordpress CMS would work better and be more attractive than this outdated site layout and navigation.

Geebz said...

I personally like the layout & the white on black is better for your eyes. The constant brightness of the monitor's white background isn't healthy for your vision.

Jenny said...

not to mention that Milsap is literally blind, so that could explain everything!

DueDiligence said...

Doubtful that it could be Michael McDonald. He doesn't play Branson that I know of plus I have met him on numerous occasions and he just isn't like that.

Now if these guys were acting like asses, I could see him not having time for it. But if they were acting like normal fans, he is going to be very approachable and grateful for their support.

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Wow maybe I actually finally got a blind answer before anyone else....that would be a first. Too bad it's so unexciting...;)

I never ask musicians for autographs after a show, unless 1) they expressly come out to sign them at a table where their CDs and merchandise are being sold or 2) they come out to meet and mingle with fans.

I think that playing a show and giving their all for that show should be enough. That's why you're there, right? To see them and hear the music?

Sarah J. MacManus said...

I think if you used to be A list and you're no playing Branson, Missouri, you should probably be grateful that someone waited around for your autograph at all.

Evil Kumquat said...

I'm firmly in the "you worked for your fame, you owe it to your fans" camp.

Seriously. If your entire lifestyle is due to the adoration of a fanbase, you owe them everything. I don't care how sick of signing autographs you are. I don't care if you're trying to have a private dinner. I don't care if you just want to hit the gas station for a pack of smokes and a soda. If a fan comes up to you offering their appreciation and asking for a token of yours, shut up, smile, sign what they have and be thankful you're not slinging burgers.

It's got to be Steve Winwood. He's touring right now. He also used to play with Eric Clapton and belonged to a few bands prior.

It's not Barry Manilow. But living in Vegas, I have a couple of stories about that chucklefuck I should send Enty...

merle haggard did this to my uncle. my uncle doesn't have a lot and waited hours for him to sign an old record he had since high school and he blew him off. john liquazamo did that to me years ago when i saw freak on broadway. i was the only one waiting at the wrong door (the door paul newman and joann woodward came out of and seeing paul newmans eyes might have changed my live it was magical!) and i looked up there was john who saw me, gave a shrug and a wave then got in his limo. that burns me up.

I have no guess for this blind, but I do think it's a little rough to completely blow off fans while leaving a show. I've obviously never poured my heart and sweat out on stage and felt the post-show exhaustion, so maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that signing autographs after a show would be somewhat expected or even appreciated.

I did once see Anna Paquin in Vancouver while Christmas shopping and she was accosted by a few fans who wanted autographs and politely declined. In that situation, it seemed completely justified; she appeared shy and as though she just wanted to buy a damn gift and get the rest of her holiday errands done. Not unlike the rest of us.

Anna said...

If it's Glen Campbell, then give him a break. He's touring now, but is in the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Lisa said...

One of my friends was married to the Milsap's son Todd (they've been divorced for a long while now). She told me stories about that family that would curl your hair. Good to their grandchild but not the nicest people in the world.

But I'm with everyone else- sometimes fans should be more respectful at times that are obviously not appropriate for autographs and the like. They're people like us and I don't know anyone who's always in a good mood unless they need to be committed.
